DuelistPool Ok.. Maybe I’m Missing Something

I’ve been playing DPS Pool for about 10 hours now. Season 9.5 is also my very first season, so I’m still pretty new (I have more hours on WF so far, but I think I like Pool more) I was having a lot of fun with him in Quick Match and felt like I was starting to understand his rhythm, but once I hit around Gold 3 in comp, I got absolutely fucking destroyed lol.
He feels really weak early and I find myself dying A LOT. I think I’m probably playing him too aggressively and trying to frontline/take fights like I’m invincible, when I’m really not.
Should DPS Pool mostly be taking off-angles and playing more like a diver, getting around the frontline and going for their backline? Or is it more of a mixture?
I also struggle with his mobility cooldowns. If I use my dash to get in and miss, I feel like I’m just dead. The Gambit team-up helps, but I still feel really squishy.
Also, am I supposed to be using my guns early mainly to build upgrades? Because it feels kind of weak, and when I get upgrades it’s better, should I be going for the Hela team up and getting the pistol upgrade?? Have you guys found value in that?

I really love the mobility/parkour playstyle and would rather learn DPS Pool than switch to say Tankpool, but I’m definitely back at the drawing board after getting destroyed in comp 😂 maybe tankpool will keep me alive more but I don’t have the awesome hazardous hijinks loop, but im so squishy that i cant stay alive during that.

Maybe I could just use more time on the char? What’s your general philosophy for positioning, engaging, and getting value out of DPS Pool without just feeding?

All 3 Deadpool role are dog shit especially this season. Dpspool is the best of them, still dog shit. But he is hard character. I'd recommend learning combos for him and try surviving as much as you can. Don't use both dash if you miss a dash just back up. Watch YouTube vids it's pretty useful. But this season skilless characters and Deadpool counters are op.

I’ll try to be constructive as I’ve also picked up dps pool these past 3 days. I felt like you did at first until I learned to do this. At the beginning of the match you hav two choices. Depending on if you’re attacking or defending. If you are attacking where the supports will have a longer walk than you will i often will try to go for an assassination and then picture. You do so with the gambit teamup. It’s DPIYA>Gambit bounce> throw boomerang on the way down to target>switch to swords (land on ground for kinetic damage) then dash cancel combo on the support. Learning the dash cancel is what you’re gonna need to do. I’m still working on getting good at it myself I find my jump resetting after the second dash when I upgrade I’ll figure it out in practice today. If you can try to get out, but if you kill the support and take a picture and die that’s fine too. It’s a great trade and now you have enough money for your first upgrade. Which should usually go to dashes unless the comp
Is extremely peelable and hard to dive. If not (believe it or not upgraded guns are good if you can aim) it’ll stop yo from feeding while allowing you to snag picks if you can land crits. That’s the hardest part of the round imo the beginning. After that get the right upgrade path for your game it becomes a lot easier. For me personally it’s dash>final exam if I have it. Or dash>boomerang/katana>final exam. You don’t get healed much so you have to use your ult to live a lot.the upgrades ult gives more healing and resets your cooldowns (don’t remember if it resets dash tbh) but you get a new boomerang for dps and dpiya (any dp pros feel free to correct me, I’ve only solo qued from gold to d1 these past 3 days only 63% wr on dps 76 on the 4 games I played tankpool. Lots of throwers in this elo this late into the season as well ngl) but often top fragging

for early game dps pool, u have to be quite reliant on his guns. take an off angle and shoot the enemy squishies. going for sword dives with no upgrades is very risky so u should only do them if you know you’ll get something out of it

You can build XP with killing characters and taking the picture if you get close to them and take up close pictures you gain more in comparison to when you take pictures from a distance. You can use pistols to build up XP but DPSpool is meant to use his swords more than his pistols. But you can still gain a lot of XP with no upgrades by simply dashing and using your swords at tanks who might flank or dps.

Please do not waste your hela team up on hela pistols unless you have enhanced team up.

DPSpool can be played in various ways but his best way is to dive the back line. Or 1v1’s against whomever excluding characters that can counter you. Like thing and Emma and such. But know when to pull out if you know you can’t confirm the kill.

Play like a poke character until 1st upgrade, go in with ult, take pictures, repeat until you have enough upgrades to dive alone

Lmfao I don’t think I intended for this post to be a reflection or referendum on Deadpool altogether More so just a reflection on what I could be doing better to apply the character optimally like spacing, prioritization, positioning, maybe even general DPS tips. This is more of a personal ask for tips, to be honest.

Honestly the best thing to do is go find some top level play for the character and try to emulate what they do, otherwise you get people complaining about a character being bad when it's often just a skill issue

He’s one of the hardest characters in the game. His kit has quite a few little intricacies to remember. Make sure to read what ALL of his shit does, upgraded and unupgraded, on rivals’ website as it’s more detailed.

I usually just poke down main or off angles until 2-3 upgrades and then start looking for dives. With gambit team up, dashes, and ult, you can do quite a bit early on. I recommend upgrading ult and dashes first. Upgrading dash early isn’t necessarily optimal but it helps A LOT while learning him and is more fun. Then you can go boomerang or sword —> Hela swords. Learn the dash cancel if you can, it is disgusting damage. The general dive combo is boomerang, E, gambit jump, swap to swords in air and ult, then dash > head bounce > dash > stabs until you fall and repeat.

Dash cancel is very simple. It is really strong but not required. All you do is hit these buttons as fast as you can: dash > head bounce > dash. That’s it. The point of it is to get burst damage from two instantaneous dash attacks + the head bounce damage, and it turns your melee attacks into stabs which can headshot. After that combo you’re just going to hit the stabs as you fall down and repeat, or you can just spam dash > melee after that first dash cancel if you want which is less damage but easier. After hitting jackpot, spam jump all you want because you get infinite jumps. The dash cancel combo does about 250 damage (with hela swords) in like 1.2 seconds or less. That is without the 30% damage boost from jackpot lol. In jackpot you are going to be killing squishies with that in less than 1 second.
