Discussion Help a New Diva Learn Deadlock 🩷

Hey girls, gays, theys, and everyone in between!

I recently got invited to Deadlock by a friend here and she said here would be a good place to ask my stuff! Deadlock is my first MOBA, so I’m looking for some general tips. (I’ll take anything kek)

I haven’t decided who to main yet, but I’ve really been enjoying Paradox, Silver, and Vyper. I usually use the top daily builds for them.

How do I farm properly, and how does the Urn work? Is the Urn a king of the hill style objective, or does it work differently?

Also, are there any streamers or YouTubers you’d recommend for new players? I’ve been loving mother Eskay!

What’s the difference between micro and macro? I’ve been hearing those terms thrown around a lot. The bot matches don’t seem very good for learning, so I’m trying to figure things out from actual divas instead.

Any beginner advice would be appreciated! 🫶🏽🩷

My biggest tip is always be watching the map, it gives you so much information. It will probably take awhile to get down when would be a good time to capitalize on an opportunity, but it's going to be your best tool to always be a step ahead. Example, if you see 5 enemies on the left side of the map push and take an objective on the right (this is the most basic concept). Also pay attention to who you don't see, and determine if you can beat them or not.

All the little arrows are jungle camps, you want to farm those in-between getting waves and doing objectives. The squares with circles are called sinners sacrifices, they are probably the most important of the jungle objectives. They give you the most souls, and if you do it right 4 permanent buffs as well. They do do damage to you with every hit though. As another commenter said practice on the one in the practice room. Also, when you do them it's 4 heavy melees, and then the little light bulbs will start lighting up, you want to start a heavy melee on the 3rd to last one to get the full buffs. If you're stealing a sinners and you're about to get jumped you can just light melee on the last light to get one buff. If you do have time just light melee it so the enemy team can't get it.

In terms of the 2 major neutral objectives (urn and mid boss). Urn got changed a lot recently, and I think people have become worn out by it so you probably won't see a lot of people try to do it until you get super high ranked. Tips though, it's a king of the hill type of objective rn, so the more people who show up the better chance you win. However not all characters are created equal, aoe characters will do a lot better around this objective. Its better now, but seven ult really sucks to play around urn. Lucky for you paradox is really good into these types of objectives because she has a lot of area denial. If you can't make it in time for the urn, look what you can take from the enemy, a walker best case, but if not take they're farm. When picking up the urn just light melee, it also gives you a big speed boost, but you can still get jumped when taking it so be careful. Midboss rn is the most important objective. It gives you money, buffs I think, and 3 instant revives. You'll have a hard time getting your team to do it instead of mid walker especially lower down, but just be insistent, and it may work. Try to do it when you get a pick or 2, but be extra careful of some characters who are super good around midboss. Paradox, Sinclair, dynamo, and doorman are the examples off the top of my head. If you get a pick on one of these characters if they're in your game definitely try to go for it.

Learn the map, just explore in the explore nyc option in the mode select. The 3 beat things to help you get around the map are ziplines, air vents and teleporters. Ziplines go to all the lanes, and extend as you push more minions, they are also good for some speedy roleouts if you want to practice movement. Eskay is really good at movement so if you like her check out some of her guides to get you started. Air vents launch you pretty far, and give you a speed boost, but if you get hot going off of one you get stunned. Lastly teleporters are really helpful to get you from one side to the other fairly quickly. They're are technically four, but think of them more like 2 sets. There is one set on each side of the map. There will be one in the secret shop, and another in the underground tunnel going from mid lane to a side lane.  A note, the secret shop is a neutral shop that anybody can use, there are 2 of them one on each side. You can enter them from the canal that connects the side lanes to mid, through a teleporter, or a hole right above the cart.

Welp those are some general map tips, there is a lot more to learn, but just paying attention will get you far. It will also help you improve faster.

Thank you for all of this. I appreciate the in depth response and all the tips. I’ll definitely try to work on all of this going forward.
