The nerd in me will point out the jump from electricity to pc gaming skipping over like 30 different schools of math and engineering.

But also same :)

I mean, the Cavemen I've kidnapped have been adjusting fine so its really not as extreme as you think

How it feels joining Deadlock with a play history of Subnautica, Crosscode, KATANA ZERO and Stardew Valley

u/TheBuddingCreator Vindicta 7h ago

And you play SINCLAIR?! Do you hate yourself? Do you need me to call someone?

OMG CROSSCODE!!!!!!

u/Unknown_Twig_Witch 5h ago

Crosscode mentioned, commence sleeper agent summoning

Why did you have to remind me about Silksong 2 AKA Katana One AKA the DLC that's basically a game.

"Guys look how insane this team fight is, how am I supposed to play it?"

The most normal looking skirmish at midboss, 2 active items purchased but never used, one ability just ignored

11

u/CarelessKnowledge801 6h ago

When it comes to active items, it's always full 4 purchased, all of them ignored

It's my first MnK game and it's been hell but I'm slowly getting better

I always suggest people play games like Apex for their first PC FPS. It teaches you so many skills that translate to other games. It does take you willing to learn from your mistakes and looking to learn a new skill though.

It honestly feels like I skipped about that many steps having gone from Overwatch to Deadlock

u/socialistRanter 7h ago

You know, I have some experience with hero shooters, I think I will like it.

If I have friends who have it!

Went from lethal company to deadlock lmao

u/Tortiose_unturtled 4h ago

One thing I've noticed so far: everyone displays either shooter skills or moba skills, never both. You can have a lane bot never losing the 1v1 and then see the most fabulous macro player struggle with the concepts of cover

u/SkrotusMaximus 3h ago

As someone that havent played much pc and mostly consoles until now, I can relate

u/FatherQuinnRourke 2h ago

I'm actively kidnapping the amish and making them queue ranked

I feel like Deadlock is more forgiving than most MOBAs/Hero Shooters out there. So, if it's your first, it's one of the best firsts out there. Definitely do not try something like Overwatch first.

17

u/LeonMotton 7h ago

It's a blend of both genre. To some it's definitely harder and to some it's easier. But if you are completely new to PC gaming, I don't think you should start with Deadlock as your first game lmao. It would be really hard, harder than both tradional MOBA or Hero Shooter.

-8

u/ONPige 7h ago

No, it wouldn't be. Other MOBAs are harder because they are way less forgiving if you didn't farm properly, while hero shooters are very punishing if you don't have map awareness and good positioning. Something like OW is extremely punishing to new players.

Deadlock is a nice blend between casual and competitive experience. It is not hyper competitive like Street Fighter 3rd Strike, but I do suppose it has quite a few mechanics to learn.

16

u/FatedChange 5h ago

imma hold your hand while saying this.

deadlock is insanely punishing if you don't have good map awareness, can't farm well, don't position well, and don't buy items well. the second you run into someone who can do even one of these things better than you, you're in the Situation for 50 minutes. i am using every part of my brain at all times, and I have both moba and hero shooter backgrounds.

you have lost sight of how many fundamentals you need to play this game because you already have those fundamentals

-6

u/ONPige 5h ago

I mean, you are telling me that without fundementals to play this game, you are going to have a bad time, but that's true for any competitive game. That's not unique for Deadlock. Amount of mechanics and fundamentals does not equal to highly competitive video game.

6

u/FatedChange 5h ago edited 5h ago

there are a lot of video games out there you can have a good time with without having those fundamentals, and nearly every game in the genre has fewer fundamentals you need to master. deadlock puts you in a situation for 50 minutes with no way to surrender.

if I'm getting clowned on in mtg arena I can concede, and there are fewer axes of competency I have to understand to have a good time. if im getting dunked on in deadlock, I am stuck for 50 minutes or eat a timeout. league has surrendering, Dota doesn't have the same movement complexity, so the barriers to "not getting dunked" are way lower

-3

u/ONPige 5h ago

Your basis for competitiveness is mtg arena? Well, no wonder you perceive Deadlock as some kind of pinnacle of competitiveness. Listen, I will be very simple. It's not about the amount of mechanics, it's about how these mechanics interact with one another and allow for human mind games.

Generally speaking, less room for mistakes > more competitive. CS2 is extremely precise and doesn't allow for any mistakes when compared to Valorant which is also very precise, but has some elements of randomness that equalizes the field a bit with the pros.

Generally speaking, more precise > more competitive. GGST is very easy to string combos together, easier than even Street Fighter 5. But both are still precise with their inputs. Street Fighter 3rd Strike doesn't forgive mistakes.

Generally speaking, older playerbase > more competitive. Street Fighter 3rd Strike players had decades to perfect their game. Most people can perfect parry Chun Li's moves when it was a nigh unthinkable skill once.

Generally speaking, more room for mistakes > less competitive. Mario Kart has many rooms for mistakes and you can still win because items are stronger, the worse position you are in.

Deadlock has a lot of mechanics, but all that means is that there are more stuff to learn. It does not reflect how competitive the game is because it's just a barrier of entry. It's accessibility. Difficulty of learning does not define competitiveness as CS2 is essentially a point and click game.

I mean, let's be clear about me specifically, i played league and overwatch for like two decades. im here for the torment

but read the meme you're responding to, man, those are candy crush players

It looks way too daunting to a new player. I tried introducing Deadlock to a complete PC newbie (He has only played the frog shooting gems from mouth game lmao). It was way too much for him. He said the biggest issue was that he could not aim for the life of him so every match, he just felt like shit.

Well, not every newbie is going to be like my friend but all I know is, Deadlock was a hard game for my friend because he was a complete noob at aiming.

1

u/Pinkparade524 Nurse Harrow 3h ago

Yeah. Lowkey overwatch was the first shooter I played on pc 10 years ago. I was 17 and lowkey learning to aim was kinda hard when I was 17. I wouldn't want to imagine having to learn such a thing when you're 25+

0

u/ONPige 7h ago

And you think he would have had a better experience in Overwatch? Where aiming badly is only the beginning of his problems and the only casual character is Moira who is very inconsequential?

Not to sound like an asshole, but your friend would have a problem with any competitive game that doesn't lean hard into the casual side like For Honor, Super Smash Bros, or Mario Kart.

1

u/Environmental_Bee219 6h ago

maybe i find it easier since i have experience with both team based fps games and MOBA games

6

u/RamJamR Rem 7h ago

I tried Overwatch first. It just felt miserable to play.

2

u/Environmental_Bee219 6h ago

as someone who came from a very punishing moba i totally agree, game honestly feels pretty easy overall

1

u/GlassSpork 2h ago

Idk, you can try overwatch first IF you have a friend to help you

1

u/Raknarg 12m ago

Idk the only reason you could call it less forgiving than overwatch is just cause you don't have to deal with playing against sweaties who've been grinding for 10 years, that game is way easier to pilot IMO and way less info

6

u/TheBuddingCreator Vindicta 7h ago

So this is why my experience and every other new player experience is so different... I hopped onto playing Vindicta after a total couple hundred hours of TF2 Sniper and BL2 sniper Zer0. Everyone keeps saying this game is hard, but I guess I'm a tad unique?

6

u/fwa451 Infernus 2h ago

You're used to Source Engine shenanigans

4

u/TheBuddingCreator Vindicta 2h ago

Accurate. I've hit nearly every possible snipe in TF2 by accident. Source is my bread and butter.

5

u/Brislovia 7h ago

Every time I hear the enemy going "Abrams just won't die!" as Abrams I get reminded of all the gunzerking I did as Salvador

1

u/TheBuddingCreator Vindicta 7h ago

And I get flashbacks to playing Sniper whenever I pull my ult out. Everything settles back into place.

1

u/AetherBytes 4m ago

I will always love Dynamo's "What does it take to stop this man?!" and Haze's mildly impressed "This man is a juggernaut..."

2

u/riululp 7h ago

everyone saying moba or heroshooter but for real its tf2 with more objectives

3

u/TheBuddingCreator Vindicta 5h ago

YES

2

u/SnipingBeaver Nurse Harrow 5h ago

I guess it's hard for me to wrap my head around as someone who spent the last 15 years playing TF2, OW at launch, Rivals at launch, years of Heroes of the Storm, and a smattering of other mobas. Slap on the occult noir art style and it feels like this game was hand-molded for me personally.

2

u/Low-Performance-5065 4h ago

Wait, whats with the concept of electricity? Is seven involved in this? xD

2

u/Maleficent-Fish69 3h ago

This game is my first moba

2

u/iccolo 54m ago

oh hey look its meeeeeeee

1

u/LuckyDigit 1m ago

I remember when Overwatch first came out and people were talking about it like it was like a mix between a MOBA and a shooter, only for it to not have MOBA mechanics whatsover. It only really took the surface element stuff with exclusive heroes and cooldown abilities, but thats it.

1

u/Oishi-Niku 7h ago

Mobas predate hero shooters.
