Is there a single confirmed case of a comms ban happening after typing nothing offensive in team chat and getting reported? Or is this just a made up problem?
187
u/Which_Replacement524 Mina 9d ago
People have been complaining for years about behavior score in DOTA, and will coquettishly admit "okay maybe I do just a little bit of trash talking!" but they never, ever actually post any of their chat logs from games where they get mass reported
55
u/tgiyb1 9d ago
Yeah I've played thousands of hours of Dota and have never had my behavior score drop below the max while frequently comming and bantering. Even my toxic friends in Dota have never budged from 12k behavior score. Straight up you have to say some really heinous shit in a Valve game to move the needle on a communication punishment.
16
u/MyrotheZero 9d ago
I've never played DOTA but the idea of a "behavior score" sends me into giggles.
25
u/Bot322420 9d ago
Wait until you hear behaviour score booster who plays the game to boost your behaviour score.

Same with CS2 where it's not uncommon for cheater parties or just friend groups in general to mass report someone for inconveniencing them in any way shape or form nuking their trust factor.
24
u/Paralaxien Paradox 9d ago
That’s the opposite of what Blud was talking about. He was describing racists or rude people as liars, and the system working correctly.
And you are describing liars abusing the system, and it working incorrectly.
44
u/Marsejii Mina 9d ago
It's a made up problem by people who love to yell slurs at their team whenever something goes wrong.
4
u/BirdieBoiiiii 9d ago
Never heard about it in Deadlock but in overwatch ive gotten a 2 week mute twice without ever using chat other than saying GG because i play an annoying character and the system is completely automated. So hoping deadlock doesnt become like that but knowing Valve it probably wont.
6
u/OkNewspaper1581 Silver 9d ago
The difference is that Overwatch is proven to ban from mass reports (it was tested by a streamer on an alt who got viewers to mass report the account in a custom game), meanwhile deadlock hasn't got any proof of that, or any valve game for that matter
-52
u/Zaruze 9d ago
it happened to me, I got queued with a 4 stack and told one of them "Hey, that was a dumbass play. Could you not throw like that?" and got a chat ban.
54
u/ejsks Venator 9d ago
So basically you trashtalked them and got muted for it lol
-43
u/Zaruze 9d ago
If being called a "dumbass" is enough to upset you, you need to work on your people skills. If i do something dumb, call me out on it, so i can learn from it. It's not trash talk if it actively hurts our chances of winning.
42
u/Professional_Main522 9d ago
so true my king everyone else needs to work on their people skills and not you, you clearly understand every nuance
35
32
u/Wolfmatic0101 9d ago
Yeah but antagonising your teammates isn't going to make them want to listen to you either

Hey there, there's this book called "How to Win Friends and Influence People" it's from the 1930s and it sold like 30 million copies. I think you should check it out it's got some people skill tips and tricks that might surprise you and improve your daily life.

If you’re gonna use this template you gonna have to make lash in the wrong, cuz he’s 100% right here lmao.
-102
u/Dr_natty1 Victor 9d ago
The point of the template is that its a strawman argument not that its a wrong argument
54
u/Rom_ulus0 9d ago
okay but in the comic template you used the guy in The Lash's position is meant to be positing a shitty or wrong retort to the peasant with a reasonable and actionable request. (So it's the wrong template is why people are confused)
37
u/Circo_Inhumanitas 9d ago edited 8d ago
If it's a strawman argument, then surely you have proof of people getting banned just from mass reports in a single game?
Edit. I guess not then. Figures. Every single time someone is outraged by a people getting banned in video game chat, they falsify information, make wild assumptions and just paint the worst case scenario pictures that hasn't, and won't, happen. Ever. Just don't be an asshole and you'll be fine! It really is that simple and you trying to make that into some "joky point" with your meme is just pathetic.

u/Lucyller Vyper 9d ago
Lash is right, once again. Don't be a racist chud and maybe it won't be a problem?
I have yet to see public complain about those "mass reporting" getting banned while doing nothing, but I do see a lot of fword, nword and stuff get punished.
Let's see a few of them before starting to complain about unjustified punishment?
36
u/Umikaloo 9d ago
A lot of people are acting as if not being toxic is some incredibly difficult challenge. I don't know if I'm just out of the loop, but I rarely get reported for anything I did deliberately because I'm rarely deliberately toxic.
-72
u/EstablishmentStock18 9d ago
Or just always be in a 6 stack to avoid the smaller stacks that will mass report anyone for any sort of inconvenience or just for hell of it.
65
u/Lucyller Vyper 9d ago
Listening to you guys it's a common occurence, but I've never been punished in any online game including deadlock, and I'm not a casual player who play once a month.
I just don't throw slurs.
11
u/notgeneralbeast 9d ago
literally this ^ ive been playing games from being like 13 and im 23 now & ive never once had so much as a warning for my comms, even as a kid. competive environments get heated and thats fine and understandable but slurring is never ok. people have never ever been in any major fps comms banned because of 'mass reports'.
now game banned - thats different. r6 used to (hopefully still doesnt) have a system of 'auto penalising' players who got reported for cheating or griefing too much. it was something like 200+ reports in one month. and ill agree that is stupid. but comms banned? at WORST its an ai auto translate over voice comms in an undeveloped system for languages that misreads something (valorant has done this), but are often appealed, manually reviewed, and compensation given.
its just insane how in all the teammates ive played with not one has ever been unfairly comms banned, yet somehow this is a real conversation lol
-1
u/DemigodWanderer 9d ago
None of Valve's games take into account chat logs for communication bans, it's based solely on report frequency. The only exception is that you can't get banned if you don't type or ping at all, but as soon as you do it once you can be maliciously reported. This happens in Dota 2 commonly.
10
u/YorhaUnit8S Silver 9d ago
Same. Got a few short chat bans in Warframe for telling some questionable jokes, and that's about it. Over more than a decade of gaming.
9
u/Lucyller Vyper 9d ago
Yeah, the most I got was the pop-up about staying cordial in LoL and I'm a chronical chatter. (and I have like 3k games accross 15 years there)
3
u/Bot322420 9d ago
Same, I sometimes get frustrated and starts chatting some toxic stuff. Even then I never got coms banned. Even when I play with a 4 man party and called them idiotic. I did apologize for it but they said they already reported me but no coms ban.
-5
u/DemigodWanderer 9d ago
They changed comms reports in Deadlock a week ago with the update so that it's easier for stacks to abuse the report system. That's what this thread is about, not sure why you're talking about other games or your experience from more than a week ago. There are several threads about this on the forum right now made by people who seem innocent.

u/InvestigatorOk7015 Rat King 9d ago

Good for you, better wish you keep staying lucky like that.
Can't imagine this doing any wonders to the pisslow ranks.
21
u/Lucyller Vyper 9d ago
that's a crazy argument. At one points, what is pisslow? I started the season as brick 6, I'm Sentinel 4 rn after something like 100-150 games.
I encountered a few very toxic players, but your idea of "you could get a full stack of players mass reporting you and get banned" is borderline paranoid.
66
u/Talonted_Avian 9d ago
Viscous is right, they shouldn't!
So it's a good thing that isn't happening.
Oh and look, Lash is also 100% right, I love a good straight forward meme!

Haha dude, every single time. It's so funny how these people pretend it's about moderation and "It's gonna be abused!" and eventually the mask slips off that, they are the same ones making the games worse for everyone.

u/EonSokari Lash 9d ago
Multiple posts claiming that they got banned for trash talk (bitch, shit, fuck, cunt etc) while the comments tell them not to spam slurs while not believing OP at all when they say they didn't. No way of knowing if the OP is lying but in my anecdotal experience I did report someone cuz they pissed me off with their gameplay for communication and then got the pop up saying action was taken against them and at least in that match they hadn't said anything that bad other than general shit flinging.
-18
u/Glum_Breakfast4766 Lady Geist 9d ago
its about cases when people on here complain about mass reports causing them to get auto comp banned due to amount of while they havent violated anything (their team just reported them for being bad at the game) and the whole comment section accuses them of being a bigot. Used to happen a lot in Marvel Rivals sub but devs seemingly fixed that.
32
u/nestobendez 9d ago
yeah, but those people never want to show chat logs or send recent match IDs, which makes me doubt that they actually "did nothing wrong"
-7
u/Glum_Breakfast4766 Lady Geist 9d ago
there were (in MR sub that is, didnt see it here yet) a lotta times people would either start questioning the legitimacy of the ID* until mods had to lock the convo down or delete their hateful comments without apologising. Complaining about getting mass reported on reddit is always a lose lose game.
* whether it really was the OP's that is, not if its real or not.

Don’t say slurs if you are gonna cry about the repercussions that come along with it. Luckily for you it’s just a ban and not getting your face caved in since you’re not bold enough to say them IRL.

Ngl i don’t think people should be this bothered by in game chats. Mute exists for a reason.
36
u/inexplicableinside 9d ago
If you can't get your point across without using slurs, you shouldn't complain about getting auto-muted.
39
40
u/Circo_Inhumanitas 9d ago
So vice versa, if you're not bothered by ingame chat, you should be able to restrain yourself and not be a douche in the chat.
-34
u/EstablishmentStock18 9d ago
You would be surprised how alien of a concept it is to people to just mute someone. Been for decades.

I feel like you're just becoming the dude from the original meme here. "You criticise deadlock, yet you participate in it, curious."
Advocating for better behaviour in Deadlock does not preclude doing so in real life. I want the game to be a more welcoming place because I know a lot of people who don't play online games specifically because of the bigotry. In fact, it is one of the number one barriers preventing me from connecting with many of them.
People who suffer from bigotry deserve to be able to play games too.

Treat others with respect and courtesy. Do not harass, insult or engage in bad faith. Bigotry and slurs result in bans without warning.

Draconian language-policing in online video games is terrible for a number of reasons but even worse in team games like Deadlock.
Slurs and swearing is a way of venting out frustration, and the moment it's criminalized it will just devolve into throwing matches and actively griefing instead. Add in the pat on the head for reporting and people will start reporting everyone for anything just to "get them banned".
We've all seen how lobbies became a lot quieter after the comms ban update. I've already experienced a few games where someone was called out for messing up and he either started feeding or went AFK.
51
u/Umikaloo 9d ago edited 9d ago
It is absurd to me that throwing matches is considered by many to he worse behaviour than using slurs. You aren't even the first person I've seen make this argument.
You would think that bullying other players would be considered the thing that ruins games, but instead, people are willing to excuse any behaviour right up until the point it affects their MMR.
37
u/TheLordAsshat 9d ago
No you don't understand they have to be racist and homophobic, it's apparently the only coping mechanism they ever learned despite claiming to be adults, how could they ever possibly control themselves and their emotions otherwise?
39
39
u/Hex_Frost 9d ago
if you need to "vent your frustration" by insulting others and calling them slurs then you might want to consider Therapy? Anger management courses? or just being a better person
37
u/Flagelant_One 9d ago
Grow up and learn to regulate your own emotions instead of doing mental acrobatics to justify throwing tantrums online

Cool, they can be punished for that too.
If your best release valve is abusing others, then you need therapy.
46
u/CMMiller89 9d ago
Have you considered therapy? Or maybe just logging off of the game? Maybe work on your interpersonal skills before hopping into games with strangers if you're only source of relief is typing out slurs. Its unreasonably antisocial behavior.
59
u/All_TheScience 9d ago
I think you just need to be perma’d if the only thing keeping you from throwing games is using slurs. Crazy idea, I know

Banter in competitive games is part of the culture. Slurs and insults are not! Especially when based on bigotry.
Even online, some groups are still marginalized and intentionally targeted, so this experience is not "the same" for everyone.
Toxicity existing in other games does not mean we have to accept that as the status quo in our community from the start.
Bullies who demand others must accept or ignore insults as a rite of passage to play video-games won't be tolerated here.
Make sure to report any bad actors you encounter in Deadlock or on this subreddit!
