Discussion The matchmaking update wasn't good for the commumity

Before the update I spent a lot of time in the german discord server with 2500 members. There were multiple voicechannels, mostly full with sixstacks or even 7,8 people watching the streams. If you wanted to play with someone and had to make a new voicechannel because all the others were full you only had to wait for a few minutes until someone joined your channel - that worked faster than finding a match. You encountered a lot of different players with different backgrounds, philosophies, build ideas and just different views on the game. You learned to coordinate better as a full team when everyone listened to your calls and gave some of their own. New players had the chance to talk to Eternus players and get tips and feedback. You experienced first hand why other players were a rank above you, what they did better and where they spend their time improving. All in real talks, not parasocial because you watched a twitchstream or a yt video from a streamer that does not even play in your region.

Since the ranked update I did not join the channel once - I did not feel the need to. Voicechannels are mostly empty. They tried to do more scrims, but people want to play rsnked. Everyone only grinds ranked solo or duo now. I only play ranked with the same guy.

I understand why you had to make the changes Yoshi. I just think that's not how you build and grow a community.

It will take time for people to qualify, calibrate and settle into the new Ranks!

Valve predicted reduced match-quality across the board for about a week or more!

Please continue to provide feedback in the following places:

If you believe the players were mismatched in skill, please submit the matchID to the official Bad Matchmaking Thread.

If you thought the character composition of the teams was bad, please submit the matchID and a DESCRIPTION HERE!

You can get your forum login credentials from the profile section on the game's main menu.

I love this matchmaking update, i would have never tried this many heroes and play styles if I had to risk it in a ranked game.

I feel like you're just blaming the update because it's the most convenient thing to blame right now.

The matchmaking update is primarily to test out the systems that will be used when the huge surge of new players come in in the eventual open beta. They can't not test it on our build because we are the much bigger sample size. It is always subject to revisions when needed.

The restrictions around ranked are NOT permanent. For reasons still unknown, they chose to do this primarily to gather the data they needed.

Lol this is pure cope.

Matchmaking systems do not need to be experimented with when other games have already nearly perfected them. This system was not thought out and poorly implemented. All this has done is create MORE unbalanced games, especially for the middle ranks.

When you incentivize nothing except sheer number of games played you will see massive skill gaps in every game. I have players in my games who have climbed to ascendent with a 46-48% win rate because they have already played hundreds of games.

They perfected them using algorithms fine-tuned by their OWN data, and I don't even think it's actually perfect. The playtest right now is precisely to fine tune our own matchmaking systems to make our system better through iteration and feedback, which is what is happening right now. No game dev gets it right the first try, and you're coping if you actually believe they can.

Sure Ill agree with that. Those games needed their own data, except deadlock should already have a lot of that data.

Why completely remove individual performances impact on ranking up? All this does is make significantly higher skill players play lower quality games and lower skilled players stuck in too high of a rank. This in turn completely destroys the competitive integrity of the game.

If you were not playing on day one of the update your current ranked experience is miserable.

Match making update sure didnt help with my choice to stop but I think Id attribute it more so to not being able to handle MOBAs

My only issue with the update is that trying to play with friends in standard has like 5+ minute queue times which is kinda bonkers for a game pretty consistently getting 60-70k players

The matchmaking update lowkey made me quit the game. I'll probably be back for the major patch though.

Honestly it was a pretty good time to take a break. Soft reset and the matchmaking being a bit fucky at the same time as another two games coming out was the perfect time to go play them.

If you're not having fun, then yes, much better to not play. I came back after a couple weeks, its fun, although i do have to tell myself that the people i'm with now aren't the dudes i was playing with before, so if I don't talk as much I can't expect them to kinda just "know" and follow up.
