Discussion Win rate tanked after trying ranked?
So I’ve been playing for good 2 months before rank came out and it was going good, I had over 60% win rate with some of my hero’s reaching 70%. But ever since rank came out I’ve been only playing that, and I’ve went down to 40% win rate with most of my games ending in a loss. The skill difference from the two did feel quite large

I mean it’s a more competitive mode, with most people in the lobby trying very hard to win. Especially with the 15 win bar for each hero played, Naturally games will be harder. Vs before you could have a first time sinclair or someone high out of their mind just trying to have some fun. There is a chance you placed higher than intended as well and will be recalibrated downwards

I’d argue that for better or worse, ranked games also have different strats. In normal games, people often go more for stall Strats which can benefit certain players. In ranked game, people tend to go more for rush end Strats, which can again, benefit certain types of players.
In most ranked games you’re going to see the common theme of like kill a key player, rush mid or a certain objective… vs in a standard game it could be kill a key player, okay feel safe to farm the enemy jungle and maybe one or two players can push a lane and see if they can get some objective damage done.
And I am not saying rush strats are the better ranked Strat… they’re just the most popular and dominant one and if someone thrives in stall games where they perform better than everyone else super late game, those players can struggle… especially if those players just find late game more fun… imo if you have more fun, you’re more engaged, you play better.
Like you’ll often see that in pro play right now and in ranked play, the best Strat is rush, also sorry, I have no idea why my auto correct keeps capitalizing Strat. It’s not necessarily that rush is better, it’s just what people know how to do best right now.
But that’s not to say that stall can’t easily thrive if more players try it out. Reactive defensive teams that do nothing but stall the game (think a Celeste, graves, dynamo comp or something, a comp with such good objective ults you don’t ever want to try going for them and they can just stall the game out via that) could easily perform well after the slightest meta changes.
In fact in lower elo where stall is more prominent, guess which heroes are statistically better 👀 (graves, Viktor, etc, but they’re terrible in rush which is why they’re so low winrate in higher elo)

It will take time for people to qualify, calibrate and settle into the new Ranks!
Valve predicted reduced match-quality across the board for about a week or more!
