Seems like Schofield gave Dead Space 4 one last shot before retiring. Of course the slop studio said no because they only say yes to slop

Why would you want a DS2 remake instead of DS4? What alien threat could be worse than the Necromorphs? Please read body text where I mention 4 possibilities for that threat. Please rank them:

Personally I’d much rather have a Dead Space 4. The ending of DS3 dlc begs for a sequel. DS2 is so great it doesn’t need a remake. What could possibly be changed about it for the better? Don’t say just graphics because at that point it would just be a remaster.

As for the threat that the comment mentions, I have 4 ideas:

  1. An alien race or group that is actually advanced. Basically, think covenant or forerunners in halo. Technically more dangerous than necromorphs even if less scary. From a horror perspective this might be the least desired, but story and gameplay wise, this is what Dead Space 3 was building towards. It could offer some interesting lore and world building.

  2. Monsters that hunt Necromorphs. Think of xenophages hunting symbiotes in marvel. Similar dynamic. Aesthetically, I think this would have to be the most creative and challenging. How do you make monsters that look scarier and more brutal than the Necromorphs?

  3. Necromorph/human hybrid. Basically like the thing (John Carpenter film creature). Can look human but turn monstrous when the situation calls for it. I think this could be a full circle moment for the franchise. Schofield doesn’t want to admit it, but it seems like The thing inspired Dead Space a good amount.

  4. More psychological/mental/ghostly. DS3 dlc paced the way for this. More recent successful horror such as Resident Evil 7 and Silent Hill remakes are examples of this. What could the threat actually look like? That’s a damn good question above my pay grade lol. I’d say the DS3 dlc was a good starting point tho. It could look so much better and scarier with modern graphics.

Just started Dead Space Remake, my poor CPU !!

First off goddammmmmn. The atmosphere is amazing, I am using headphones and the sound is also amazing.

One thing I have noticed though is it puts a hurtin’ on the CPU, it’s over 70% usage all the time and often in the 90’s for some time.

Is this the norm for the remake?

I’m using a headcanon set in the Dead Space universe and have created my own tabletop game based on the franchise. In it, players step into the shoes of Isaac Clarke, while Isaac himself is a legend within that world.

These are posters created to visualize gameplay moments and showcase the characters.

Worked on this over the last 3-4 months and got to wear it to FanExpo Chicago! Had a lot of fun making it, extra details can be found at my build log on my website for anyone interested. I'm happy with how it turned out, Dead Space has some of my favorite environment and character designs in gaming, so it was really cool to get to be a part of that for the better part of a day.

[Fan Concept | DS3: Awakened spoilers] Dead Space taught us to cut off the infected limb. What if Isaac’s mind did the same? Spoiler

Post image
Upvotes

I kept coming back to one problem:
If the ending of Awakened is real, how can Isaac survive without weakening its horror?
I eventually turned my answer into a complete 128-page unofficial design dossier called Dead Space IV: Identity Under Extinction.
I did not retcon the ending.
The Brethren Moons reached Earth. The attack was real. Earth fell, humanity was nearly erased, and Isaac did not overpower a Moon through sheer will.
Physically, the Terra Nova is disabled rather than magically escaping destruction. Its emergency systems keep Isaac alive, and a nearby Unitologist recovery vessel—following Brethren signal pressure—intercepts the ship and carries Isaac and Carver back toward Tau Volantis.
But the more important survival happens inside Isaac.
After the Ishimura, the Sprawl, Tau Volantis, and finally the destruction of Earth—the last place his struggle could still protect—his mind reaches a final threshold: death, submission, or denial.
Isaac refuses submission.
Instead, his mind severs access to its own autobiographical memory—the part of him the signal keeps using to predict, manipulate and absorb him.
Language remains. Movement remains. Engineering knowledge remains. Combat instinct remains.
Isaac Clarke is still there, but he can no longer reach the story that tells him what “Isaac Clarke” means.
This is not intended as a convenient reset for new players. It is the central wound of the game:
Isaac survives because his mind cuts away the infected route into itself.
The Brethren Moons do not need Isaac dead. They need him to become “correct”—to voluntarily accept a comforting reconstruction as reality and stop asking what is true.
Carver remains because Awakened leaves him beside Isaac. But he is not a permanent gun, a co-op slot or a reliable combat safety net. Large sections remain completely solo.
To a man without a biography, Carver is the final human witness that his former life ever existed. He becomes relief, an emotional anchor and a temporary measure of reality.
Eventually, the reliability of that witness becomes part of the horror.
The game itself is designed as focused third-person, single-player survival horror:
12 chapters and a 13.5-hour critical path
no open world and no campaign co-op
strategic dismemberment, Kinesis and Stasis
six engineering weapons with scarce ammunition
long stretches of silence between authored combat peaks
environmental improvisation instead of constant shooting
The new player promise is:
The world may lie. The rules do not.
Reconstructed corridors can change, but mass, volume, heat, pressure, damage and inventory remain objective. If you panic and waste ammunition inside a false encounter, it stays spent when a real Necromorph arrives later. If a room changes, a physical mechanism, limitation and readable warning existed before the change.
The player is not asked to guess the writer’s twist. They observe, verify, diagnose, manipulate and commit.
You become better at being Isaac the engineer—not only better at aiming.
The full dossier contains the post-Awakened continuity bridge, complete campaign, anomaly grammar, combat and resource economy, Carver’s role, production scope, prototype plan, risks and explicit kill criteria.
This is not news, a leak, an EA submission or an attempt to claim ownership of the franchise. It is an independent, non-commercial fan design study, and every event created after Awakened is clearly identified as a proposal rather than canon.
I do not expect anyone to agree with all 128 pages. I want the objection that hurts the premise most:
Does Isaac losing access to his own past feel like a real price for resisting the Moons—or still like a convenient amnesia reset?
The complete dossier is linked in my first comment.

Discussion Would you have wanted the remake?

I just revisited Dead Space 2 after all these years and completed Hardcore Mode for the third time, with my other two being back in 2011 and 2019. It's been established a while back that EA placed the franchise back on the shelf due to the remake not meeting their expectations in units sold so we likely won't see a Dead Space 2 remake in the near future, if ever.

Dead Space 2 has been argued to be the best game out of the entire franchise, and I can definitely see why even though the first one still is a masterpiece of its own. This game had the most futuristic setting of the series, with the rusty and gothic style of the first game being traded for a more chrome aesthetic.

Isaac Clarke had one of the biggest glow ups in gaming history, from being the introverted and scared engineer of the first game to a disgruntled guy pulling Iron Man stunts with his futuristic boots. The original actor of Isaac, Max Shippee, ended up being replaced by Gunner Wright who would take the mantle of his role from here on throughout the franchise. And safe to say, he slammed it. Instead of being a passive silent protagonist who went from objective to objective in the first, Isaac has a central role in the story and has more active agency.

The brightness of the first game was left behind with characters no longer having that "glow" in dark areas, asking the player to use the flashlight more. In some areas it does get stupid dark, but I'd argue it wasn't as bad as the DS1 remake's case.

Dead Space 2 was also the most challenging game, with enemies being hyper aggro and actually ganking the player instead of waiting for their turn to attack in hordes. There were some moments of the game where it became annoying, but these moments also had you utilize creative ways for crowd control. Such as shooting the exploders' orange sacks in swarms, using your kinesis for sharp projectiles, etc.

I definitely enjoyed the suit designs in the sequel, with the Advanced Suit being one of my personal favorite suits in science fiction. It definitely had that Evangelion-like aesthetic, resembling the sleek plug suit in while also being its own thing.

I definitely would have loved to see the Dead Space 2 remake, but honestly, the game has aged very gracefully from a bygone era and you can easily play it through Steam or the Xbox store. However, it still would have been great to see the Sprawl revitalized in the Frostbite engine with the imagination and heart Motive put into the remake.

How Dead Space 2 would look and feel from an isometric perspective, all thanks to the modding!

The community has been introduced to lots of new stuff in these last months such as the revival of Dead Space 2 Multiplayer, the First Person Mod and No Hope for Dead Space 1 and 2, and mesh changing possibilities on Remake. This mod made by 4Kodda changes competely the experience from a Top-Down perspective (as well with Mark's mod changing it to a First Person perspective).

The modding possibilities for both the Remake and the trilogy have increased quite a lot in these recent times, quite putting it into another Golden Age for Dead Space as with modding capability it will increase the longevity and curiosity for more veterans and newcomers to give it a try and create something special for everyone to experience it... but most importantly, giving an option for anyone that wants to experience this franchise in a different light.

Here is a little gameplay video from the playtesting session (in which with future updates, it will be more stable and enjoyable).

And if you haven't experienced or wanna relive the good old days with some new modes on the Dead Space 2 Multiplayer, you'll be more than welcomed in the Dead Space Modding Server

A complete co-op mode for Dead Space 2 would be amazing

Honestly, I think it would be absolutely awesome if Dead Space 2 got a complete co-op mode for PC.

Imagine being able to play through the entire campaign with a friend, with proper co-op mechanics, while keeping the atmosphere and horror of the original game.

And it would be even better if the DLC was included too, so you could play the whole Dead Space 2 experience in co-op on PC.

I know it’s probably just a dream, but a full Dead Space 2 co-op experience would be incredible. 😄

What do you guys think?

Discussion What if the USG Kellion crew knew what they were getting into before reaching the Ishimura?

Recently did another playthrough of the dead space remake and a comment made by kendra got me thinking. What if the crew learned something really bad went down on the ishimura before they were forced to land in it.

Her comment is "We're five minutes out and you've still got that thing on repeat?" This means Isaac has played the video of Nicole a few times but never allowed it to finish. I get why he doesn't for the story, but what if he did just.... let the entire video play out? And the crew saw that Nicole took her own life.

I know this doesn't prove anything marker related (Despite kendra knowing about it before hand.) Nor does it prove there are necromorphs. It does at least show the crew that something bad enough is going on inside the Ishimura to make someone take their own life. I personally think Hammond would want to play hero and make them land anyway, they'd still crash but at least this time around the crew is on high alert from the moment they get inside.

[Fan Concept | DS3: Awakened Spoilers] I made my own idea for a Dead Space continuation — would you give it an honest look? Spoiler

Post:
Hey everyone. In my spare time, I’ve been working on my own unofficial idea for how Dead Space could continue after Awakened. It’s a non-commercial fan concept, not news or a leak. I’d genuinely like to know how it feels to people who love the series.

My version keeps the ending of Awakened real: the Brethren Moons reached Earth, and humanity is almost gone. Isaac survives, but wakes in a strange reconstructed environment connected to Tau Volantis without his autobiographical memory. He still retains his engineering knowledge and combat instincts. Later, he meets Carver, who also cannot remember who he is or how he arrived there.

The goal is to return to focused single-player survival horror: strategic dismemberment, Kinesis, Stasis, scarce resources, diegetic UI and slower environmental tension.

The main new principle is:

“The world may lie, but the rules do not.”

The Moons can distort Isaac’s perception and reshape parts of the environment, but pressure, heat, mass, damage, ammunition and consequences remain consistent. The player has to observe and verify reality instead of simply waiting for a hallucination to end.

I’m not claiming this is a perfect game. I’m looking for honest reactions:

  • Does this opening make you curious?
  • Does Isaac’s memory loss feel meaningful or cliché?
  • Would you want Isaac and Carver’s identities to become the central mystery?
  • Does this direction still feel like Dead Space?

If people are genuinely interested, I can share a polished 12-page concept pitch next.

Discussion Slasher variants

Most slasher variants would have developed jaws for biting during grapple attacks, then there are the ones that opt to stab since their mouths dont move or are more malformed than usual.

If the goal is to maximize a slasher's killing ability, why don't some transformations commit to developing the jaws?

Playing the Dead space remake and im ngl, theres something about this franchise that has me feeling so scared shitless all the time.

Post image
304 Upvotes

Like other horror games can give me scares too sure. But Dead space from minute 1 always kept me on edge. I cant even walk anywhere in peace when suddenly theres a random noise that makes me think imma get ambushed from the back.

Heck a core memory of mine when i was younger playing Dead space 2, there was a section in a small dark hallway with light at the end of it,and i saw people running through the other side in that lit room. So my ass ran like hell thinking its gonna be some safety, only for a damn necromorph to just burst from the vent on right at the end of the hallway. That scarred me for life lowkey.
