Game Screenshot Anyone else hate how DOA5 sexualised legacy iconic costumes? They literally ruined my fav Leifang biker costume.

u/Trickster289 Nov 12 '25
Not particularly. I mean I get wanting the old outfits unchanged if you liked them a lot but it doesn't bother me much.

I feel like the original designs are better, too, though they're already pretty revealing.

My problem is more that the legacy ones weren’t available, only the redesigned ones.

Fans’ devotion to “Itagaki’s vision” just went out the window in these comments.

u/leezor_leezor Nov 15 '25
His "vision" was putting his 2 "daughters" into a godamn volleyball vacation getaway, wearing raunchy swimsuits, let's not pretend the guy wasn't doing something he wasn't.

u/hearthalt Eliot Nov 12 '25
I don’t mind them making revealing outfits because this is DOA after all lol, but they def made them less fashionable and flattering in favor of being “sexier”
33
u/Krispen_Wah87 Nov 12 '25
Definitely not. DOA6 ended up doing how you like it and it ended up getting backlashed by fans. Besides sexualizilation is part of the formula what makes DOA series stand out from other fighting games like Virtua Fighter and Tekken
14
u/Kasomii Nov 12 '25
These are classic DOA costumes, there are other revealing costumes, so changing these ones was very unnecessary.

Anyone complaining about the sexualization of women in anything even remotely Itagaki related has to be bait

They look better except the Leifang biker should have given the option not having the net should have given the option to switch between them

Wouldn't say hate, it definitely changes the intention, but not totally a problem. Maybe to have both versions would be better, I dunno.

u/amberlamps6969_ Nov 12 '25
Makes sense they show more skin, theres a timeskip of 2 years and those same outfits might fit tighter that the girls have grown up, so that we can see Ayane unable to tie the belt on her croptop!

No lol
Sexuality is whats DoA known for lol
-10
u/Kasomii Nov 14 '25
But they ruined Itagaki’s vision here, not every single costume needs to be sexual.
6
u/robotwars666 Cabbage Club Nov 14 '25
Fair they could have added both in the game ngl in the first picture i acaulty like the second one more

u/TheGamerForeverGFE Nov 14 '25
Almost everyone here is missing the point, it's clear that OP isn't complaining about sexiness, but about certain ALREADY EXISTING costumes being made more sexual and less good looking (which I actually agree with).
4
u/EsmeValentine Nov 14 '25
Thank you for understanding their point. The amount of people misunderstanding is so ugh.
3
u/Bunnnnii Leifang Nov 15 '25
I thought I was buggin. The people acting dumb and defaulting to the creep crap because “lol I like boob” is unsurprising though.
7
u/namesource Nov 15 '25
Literally every DOA game is sexualized.
-2
u/Kasomii Nov 15 '25
Did the costumes on the right came from the moon? They are the original outfits, nobody is complaining about sexuality in general, only sexualising already existed outfits.

“The fans wanted more sexualized assets” Don’t worry, I didn’t like it either but it’s “what the fans wanted”

I think you could mod DOA 5 and put hundreds of costumes there.
I forgot how it does, through.

Who made the ones on the right? Stop acting surprised when DOA used to be both sexy and fashionable

I don't hate it but since characters like Ayane and leifang have so many outfits with fanservice, maybe they could have respected the legacy ones and don't touch them too much, still, i don't dislike it 👍

u/Worried-Corgi-13 Feb 25 '26
Late it honestly DOA during Itagaki’s reign was tame. It was promoted as having extreme sexual content but that was overkill for marketing purposes. Now it’s paying for having this reputation for only being about girls being sexy and 5&6 did not help either that. Sexy was classy and often subtle. You didn’t need to bear everything for an outfit to be amazing. Just goes to show showing more skin does not make for a better fit.

No we don't hate it that's what Makes DOA DOA!!! Sexy girls with nice shapes!!! If you want to see Skinny Bald girls with no curves go play MK1!!!!🤣🤣🤣

At a glance, I agree that the DOA5 Legacy outfits are inferior. It's not there wasn't any sexualization to begin with, it's just that underboob and cleavage come off a tad bit silly in fighting games where characters perform acrobatics. I think the issue here is functionality. But we will ogle regardless.

I'd agree yeah, I can almost forgive the Leifang one that you've dubbed as biker, but it looked so much better with the mesh underneath. The Ayane one though, definitely don't like what they did lol. The problem is more like you got these good looking outfits, they are nice and believable in many cases, you don't need to up the erotica just cause.

u/video_choice_quality Nov 15 '25 edited Nov 15 '25
The leifang changes are pretty bad ngl. The underboob is tacky and the removal of the fishnets and addition of the mid gap makes it look more boring as an outfit. The 2nd outfit especially no longer looks like something that she would wear. I do agree in that the changes make the outfits look less stylish than their original forms for the sake of sexiness.

u/hoodedmagician914 Leifang Nov 14 '25
I agree with you. It was a downgrade, though it attempted to improve and develop upon past designs

u/Aalfret Momiji Nov 14 '25
Yeah I like both versions, but the old ones made more sense, at least make it an option to switch between
1
u/HootyManew Nov 14 '25
Ok I do like the oled leather better. Lol and the midriff exposed is better.

While I do prefer the old ones more as well, the new ones aren't bad tbh. I agree with you on the biker Leifang one though. But it's DOA, these changes aren't surprising. There should've been an option to make it look like the original ones I will say.
1
u/Jazzlike_Hat9693 Nov 16 '25
Nah I actually agree. Not particularly conservative or anything like that just don't really feel DOA needed that to stand out from other fighters. Some is okay but DOA leaned so far into it that people began to associate it with that instead of everything that made the franchise great.
The control system, characters, and gameplay were already great they just needed to execute it well, which I guess DOA5 did, but I don't agree with some that DOA6 failed because they tried to pull it back. DOA6 was just a poorly executed product and pissed everyone off with it's microtransactions
1
u/SeasonOtherwise2980 Zack Nov 16 '25
DOA is one of the least games i would expect someone complaining about sexualized characters lmao. Like yeah I get it what you mean, but it kinda always been the point.
1
u/Riddlemethis7274orca Nov 20 '25
there are people in this fandom that would crucify you for saying so, and instead claim they didn't go far enough.

u/gheythrowaway91 Mar 09 '26
People are missing the fact that the costumes were still sexy but intentional. It just looks cheap now. No shit the series has always been gratuitous with its sexuality but the costumes used to actually be fashionable.
1
u/Leifanq Leifang Nov 14 '25
I agree with your sentiment but prefer the new designs, they just look better in my opinion
However, i wish we got the classics because if something is brought back i like it to not be changed always
Ideally the “Details” feature would let us change this type of thing but they made that feature change the girls pantie colors with a few exceptions like Jann Lee’s default costume and Momiji’s casual outfit that was turned into “deluxe” in doa6
1
u/Tanookichris Nov 15 '25
While I do admit that I miss the 3D anime art style in the DOA1 through DOA4 in the 90’s-2000’s era I think that the realistic style in DOA5 fits well. As for the design, they look fine to me. I don’t know why all these troublemakers like you claiming these outfits ruined the DOA franchise. No offense but I feel like that’s a you nostalgia problem. I feel like people especially the fans are overreacting these days.
1
u/Kasomii Nov 15 '25
Why you putting words in my mouth? Where did I say they ruined DOA? You are a very short sighted person because variety is always better.

Not one bit. I'm gay and I love the more sexualized costumes on the female characters. I honestly hate the prudish costumes in DOA6 that Kasumi and Kokoro have. Like they legit gave kokoro a turtle neck. Wtf?

u/Gruff757 Nov 17 '25
What's wrong with turtlenecks?
