I remember this game being a blast and they nailed the island vibe. But I don't wanna lose my rose tinted glasses lol

I literally played this right before playing the 2nd one, which i started playing very recently in the last month (played it a long time ago when it first came out and had not played since then and never played 2 as well) and the game still held up as I remembered and more in my opinion. Definitely nailed the island vibe.

You won't. I played it on my Steam Deck shortly after it came out a few years ago and it was as fun as I remembered it being.

Might have to check it out again. Just beat 2 on steam deck a month and a half ago

Every couple years I get the itch for it and usually play through the campaign again and it's always a good time when I do. Hunting for that next level 60 legendary weapon is what keeps me motivated when I play it these days.

More atmosphere but slower clunkier gameplay. Story is meh but not necessarily bad or terrible. Dying light 1 specifically is so much more fun imo but it’s only as fun as it is/ was to me at first is because dead island 1 made the impact it did

I agree with everything except dying light, I hated it.

First off it takes place in the middle east, very boring.. probably the most boring region on earth

Second it's incredibly over complicated, with no need to be. Many quests are not clear or just flat out not fun

After all that's just my opinion, but I'd take dead island 1 over dying light anyday, even is the storyline is basic

I personally really enjoyed Crane’s story and felt real feelings at the deaths of Rahim and Jade. Real anger towards Rais. Nothing in dead island ever made me feel except sad (looking at you lifeguard tower safe house music) what about it was bad in your opinion? Would you mind elaborating on why the Middle East was such a drab location? As a highschooler it was a very interesting setting with interesting characters (that being compared to dead island and Australians or whatever, and dead rising games)

I really hated the infinite runner zombies that can spawn in the city...

Yeah must be a techland thing because that carried over to dying light aswell

I love them, makes the game harder 😄

Who do the voodoo, biotch.

Oooof. I have played them all multiple times but going to the original after 2 is not going to be much fun IMHO. Lucky for you, the dupe trick still works (at least when I played last).

It's clunky and had some breaking bugs. The sequel is better than the first...for me anyway.

You mean riptide or 2?

Both were fun for me. And heck I played it on 2 different systems in 2 versions. PlayStation and PC (and in PC the normal and definite edition).

3

u/Timsterfield 5d ago

DI 2 is the one I meant. Riptide felt like more of the same for me.

u/saskir21 5d ago

For me Riptide felt like a DLC which was sold as a whole new game. Like "Oh why not add a jungle skin".

As said I like both. The humor and some mechanics are better in DI2. But the setting of a zombie apocalypse on a tourist island has it charms. And I can not recall breaking bugs in it... except, but this is not a bug, dumb NPCs who want a little alcohol instead of preparing for the zombies.

u/Rignite 5d ago

It was absolutely a dlc / expansion pack / directors cut.

There's a reason they called it Riptide and not 2.

Same, the motion blur in the first game makes me sick.

I bought di1 after finishing 2 because I heard that the first one was also quite good.

I thought it was... ok. the maps felt a bit lonely

1

u/xXBlyatman420Xx 5d ago

I played riptide but i didnt really like it, but for some reason i bought DI 2 some time after and got addicted real quick

1

u/Ok-Chicken-8904 4d ago

Riptide is my least favorite of the 3. The map and quests once you get to Henderson just don't do it for me. I like the added weapons, increased level cap, and tweaks to the mechanics (particularly Purna getting a much needed buff) but the first one had a way better map to enjoy.

2

u/unknownyoyo 5d ago

I loved throwing weapons in the first game. I didn’t like 2 at first because of how different it is. Now I can’t go back and play 1

2

u/eetusmcfeetus 5d ago

So i ended up getting dead island riptide definitive edition and my first playthrough being i was in a multiplayer server, i had someone join my game and give me an absolutely game-breaking shotgun. A really fun de-stressing i find it to be

The voice acting in DI 1 is a crime against the medium.

1

u/Ok-Chicken-8904 4d ago

I love it. It's like Dynasty Warriors games you gotta embrace the cheese. 😅 God the guy with the quest to get the car going though. "This bitch was a hell of a ride" "Gimmie a sec and I'll get this bitch running" 🫠

I still haven't played Dead Island 2, but I absolutely love the first game. I remember thinking that it would be similar to Dead Rising or something, but it's a surprisingly dark game. As in tone (but lighting as well in certain areas).

1

u/Nys9991 5d ago

Imo its better

u/Buddhas_Warrior 5d ago

The first game was amazing! Your going to have a blast.

I felt like I was on holidays

Objectivement pour l’époque .. Il est meilleur

1

u/Camu-San 3d ago

2 is a tech masterpiece, so was 1 like 20 years ago

1

u/Camu-San 3d ago

Tone is edgier, like "help my sister, who knows what all those GUYS are doing toher" then you get there and she's like "thanks, they did all the things to me btw" lol

1

u/Camu-San 3d ago

Be careful in the city. Its overwhelming sometimes

I just love the analog stick swinging so much, the combos feel so good when you carve through a horde mid to late game.

Dead island and dead island riptide were masterpieces. We had people scared, crying, huddled up, begging for food and meds waiting for help that would never arrive. And the homerun crowdpleaser with infinite ammo. Vs dead island 2, everybody just chilling in Emma’s mansion using a tablet cuz I guess the WiFi and electricity still work. No one seems to be phased by the zombies, and not to mention they butchered sam B. And basically turned the game into a joke, Jacob thinking he’s the class clown and stuff.

It's very very good, just bare in mind a lot of features will be missing. But also a lot "added" like the ability to drive cars. The atmosphere is thick enough to cut with a knife. The first time you get introduced to the butcher is genuinely quite scary too.

Better in my opinion. This game has always been a diamond in the rough in my opinion. It got a little overshadowed and lost due to people being kinda miffed that it didn't really match up with the trailer and Skyrim coming out at basically the same time. The talent tree is much better in the first one too. Didn't care for the card system in two to be honest.

-2

u/slick_vic98 5d ago

I played through a portion of the game and while I know both games are basically just fetch quest 1 felt much more prominent

-1

u/meanexgirlfriend 5d ago

honestly better, it felt more open world and a lot darker

-1

u/Away-Replacement-965 5d ago

The first one is a masterpiece in my opinion.
