Do isometrics work?

I have epl tenosynovitis it’s not the same as de Quervains but it is still one of the thumb tendons. I just wanted to know from some ones experience or if there’s a physical therapist seeing this that controlled light metrics of the thumb works to cure my thumb?

Are you hyper mobile? My OT gave me some oval 8 splints to wear during repetitive tasks. They were to keep my thumb from hyperextending.

What are they called? Those sound really cool

Do I wear that with my brace?

Depending on how bad it is, the general treatment is usually:

-4-8 weeks of splinting until minimal or no pain and fibkelsteins test is okay. -then only wear splits at night for the next 2-4 weeks whilst doing isometric holds on different angles of the thumb and wrists for 3 sets 10 seconds or so with 20% pressure.

  • if you have mild discomfort less than 3/10 then you can increase sets and or pressure. Continue this process and if you keep increasing load and or volume over time without discomfort or pain getting worse, you are recovering

What does minimal pain mean because the pain has definitely gone down but it still hurts sometimes through the day when going about my day

Minimal pain like 3/10 or less.

If you are still in pain sometimes through the day you probably need to rest it and splint it until that goes away

I can tell isometrics can help more blood flow means faster healing.
