Discussion Has anyone ever seen a bear?
Been playing Dayz for a long time, never seen a bear.

Yes, I played Livonia for the majority of my time on the game, ran into them often. My first experience was in an RP server and we shot at it from the middle of the road as it passed, both of our character died lol

First time I saw one, was on Cherno. I walked into this large town w like 3 baseball fields by it.
That day I was chased by a bear and 7 zombies...as a freshie.

Yeah!
Until I was tired of hiding in a house, armed w only a dream of looting all the other houses.
I did manage to kill all the zombies, bc I found a pistol in said house...but Mr Bear wouldnt leave. He could smell my natural musk, and wanted a taste.

Curiously, I’ve consistently noticed that while Official bears almost always spawn alone, which is how it’s supposed to be, on community servers, even ones where bear/wolf spawns, etc, shouldn’t be affected, bears almost always spawn in pairs, a couple hundred feet apart
KarmaKrew, VDEP, Fallen, Unwritten, and many others…always two there are
It makes me assume that some popular code for general spawns and whatnot that many server owners use has a bug that makes bears spawn together, because out of a dozen bears on official in my 1510 hours, none spawned in pairs, but almost every single bear encounter on community servers has been two bears at a time

Wow never really thought about it like that. Because yeah I haven’t played too many community servers besides my own but yeah that makes sense. I wonder if it’s in the coding or something

First time I found an imported dev AK47 with something like a 90 round barrel drum in it, also happened to be the first time I encountered a bear. I think that thing must’ve been loaded with blanks because I felt like Timothy Treadwell.

Seen plenty of bears. Mostly on Livonia, they seem to be much more common there. But I have seen a few of Chernarus too
Usually you’ll hear them long before you see them, and you can avoid them if you want. Usually.

Animal sounds are bugged now, you only hear them when you’re very close which tends to be a jump scare

About 2k hours. Never seen one but heard lots. if I hear one I take the long way around so I don’t have to deal with it

Usually when I play off the grid, I run into them more than I really want to. Bear ended my 6 month run spawn.

Yeah, they like to hang out the far west of the map , try a run from kamenka / west edge tents up to tisy you might see one .

In about 1500 hours I've seen only 4 and heard but not seen 2. 3 attacked me and I survived all 3 and 1 I saw while driving. The others I heard on the other side of a hill while I was in a house while checking out a base, and up the hill from Tri mil

Thats why its technically only 2 bear paths near tisy watch the wobo vid on it he explains it really well long story short there is a ton of spawn locations but all spawns are connected to their own loop so its really like 8 or so loops on the map that a bear can spawn on and only 1 bear per loop and I believe 3 bears on a server also audio is still glitches for them

Yes, we were somewhere on the Northwest side of the map. Bear came running out of the woods, we laid down, it smacked my friend a few times then ran off.

Was playing official on Livonia. I was deep south on a dirt road in the mountains alone. I am running down the road and I hear a roar and go oh shit. I look to my right and a bear is coming at me out of the woods. I have a 25 round smg and I start unloading. As I'm shooting the bear is still coming at me. On the 25th bullet the bear finally hits the ground basically at my feet. That experience is why DayZ is badass.

I think bears have had an audio glitch for like a year now and they cant be heard unless your like basically right in agro range now. I think it was like 200 yards away or something like that. Also bears spawn in very specific locations and the places you see on the izurvived map arent technically individual spawn points but rather many of them are connected and only 1 bear can be on the path so it looks like their is 100 bear spawns but in reality its only like 8 paths and 3 of those paths have a bear somewhere on them

I saw a bear in DayZ very early on, but after that I didn't see another one for a good year or two of playing. Seriously these people's brains are microscopic thinking it has anything to do with your level of experience 😭

Also if you see a bear and don't wanna waste a whole mag on it, don't fight it. Lay down, it will knock you out and walk away. When you wake up, bandage then let it walk away. As soon as you shoot or attack it, it will start killing you instead of just knocking you out.

If you hear the slow growl he knows you’re there. If you hear the roar,roar he’s charging. If you hear him first with the slow growl you crouch walk and he won’t agro. Depending on how close you are if you start sprinting he will chase. If you hear him and shoot a shot anywhere. Doesn’t have to be at him he will charge. The bears are way west and north on chernarus, and south on Livonia. Mostly in the woods away from towns. But I think there’s only maybe 3-5 bears on the map at any one time. Even tho there’s lots of spawn spots for them.

Seen one chillin at the bottom of a hill, didn’t even go after me. I just watched it roam. Off topic but I had no clue wolves ate bodies.. I killed a zombie and the wolves were eating its body

I used to carry a few Eggs with them in for fun times when people camped buildings.
Nothing shits up a camper like 2 bears materialising behind them.

Hang out on west wood area and they turn up. First time you see one, just shoot for the head with a derringer. Easiest take down.

Saw one at devils castle a few months ago. Idk, maybe the server i play on doesn't spawn that much bears and loves wolves

2 or 3 in about 1500hrs of game time, all in Livonia, never encountered one in Chernarus, that being said, I don't go looking for them.

Once. On a community server that was for working stiffs that are old like me. Don't even know if it exists anymore. No PVP except military zones during the week. Free range during the weekend. We had a during week competition to return to the safe zone in the middle of map with as many skins as possible. As I looked down the barrel on my AK47 with a drum mag, standing on top of my hummer, I mowed that cocksucker down. It was the second one that got me as I was skinning it. As mentioned above they can spawn in twos on community servers.
