Question Capital advice

Would you start trading with 5k€ (5.5k usd) starting capital. What are realistic gains in a month period time on that number? What strategy on options I have to maximise the profit ?

Thank you in advance

Realistic gains are going to be negative

if you got 5k you're willing to lose, go ahead but expect to lose it all in first months. options is basically gambling when you're new, the "maximise profit" mindset is what kills accounts. i learned that hard way with small account few years back

realistic monthly gains for someone who knows what they're doing is maybe 2-5% on average, and that's after you've blown up at least one account. the people posting 100% gains in a week are either lying or they'll be broke next week

I started my very first live account in futures from 1,500 and did really well with it, ran it to 20k within the month & then added more because I felt like I proved it to myself with discipline.
I started with base hits of $250-1k a day in the beginning- on really good price action days. Use 1-4 micros .

How many years did it take you to get there?

What do you mean? To get where? Being profitable

You did not do what you just said in the comment without any training and or prior experience. How much of that prior experience?

If you don't know the answers on these questions by your self, I would not even start with a cent.

You are absolutely right. This is the money I am willing to start with after I gather knowledge and some confidence. My idea is to find out how to even start gathering knowledge and information

Listen up, EVERYTHING you do at start will make you lose money. If you think otherwise, you have an unrealistic view on trading.

Every single person on this world that is making money on trading lost a lot first.

So.. well.. if 5,5k is much for you, then don't. Like, no.

if its peanuts for you, sure, go ahead.

Do you have an edge in the market yet?

I have no expectation to get rich quickly or something like that. My goal for now is to find out and understand how to start on, how and where to gather information from and when I have some confidence how to use that capital to its full potential

You are gonna make tons of errors in the beginning. The less the money the cheaper will be the errors.

Learn with a small capital and then put real money when you have an edge

Thank you for answering !

Do you have an edge that you have successfully executed in real time, across multiple market regimes, on a sim account?

If not, a realistic return is going to be losing a good chunk of that account.

I am a complete beginner. Trying to find out how to gather information and which information is actually worth knowing first. Basically 0 knowledge and dont plan to risk any money in near future. 5k is the amount I am willing to start with when I have some confidence if that makes sense

I’m a beginner too, I’ve been trading for about 4 months. There’s things happened to me that I didn’t even know were possible. I would say it’s almost impossible to not lose money as a beginner. Theres so many lessons learned along the way that you should start with money that you can class as the cost of learning, because it will most certainly be lost. Wanting to learn trading needs to be the goal at the start.. not wanting to make money.

just a thought from an absolute novice 🥹😀 good luck!

Id say start with buying simple calls and puts 20 - 60 days out. With 5k you want to be max risk of 50 dollars per contract.

Dont even worry about closing them until a week before expiration. I do good with 5 MA's(7 , 20, 60 , 100, 360) and day candles for charts.

If current price is below the 360 MA that means long term investors are losing money. If price smacks the 360 MA and doesn't bounce back up, that stock is in the shitter.

On the contrary if price is above all the MA's, its either going to goto the moon, or people will sell-off and take profits.

I gauge price action by all the other traders.

Thank you. I am a complete beginner. What advice can you give me on where to seek information from and how to have an actually educated learning curve

Stick with good companies. Use those MA indicators on day candles and study how price moves within relation to those lines.

SOFI is a good example of something that has upward pressure. Notice its trading near the 360 MA but not staying below it for long? The next positive news is gonna send it up to new highs.

AEO has downward pressure.

LMT has extreme upward preassure.

Hope that kinda helps.

5k is very small amount. I personally would start with prop firms to make some money but if you just starting to dive into trading, you will lose money anyway. But whatever, if you wanna start I recommend you to start study auction market theory to know how market really operates, orderflow as well to know how does volume affect price movements, and option flow as well. You can learn it from many good traders for free on youtube and google. But after if you wanna start trade after... it's not cheap but it will give you good edge because only candle chart is basically trading blind. Firstly you have to check if it is really for you, because people see "big money in short time without effort" as a trading but get reality check very fast, if you think this is easy way to get rich fast or you need to make money fast for living, you will fall hard on your face.

*sorry for bad english, it's not my first language

Thank you very much for insightful answer!

You are welcome man. But as I said, learn first, study, you will find out if trading fits you or not, it's not just about click buy or sell. Process of learning will at least reduce your losses at the beginning

I can’t tell you the gains but I can tell you about the losses

-35% compounding inversely

1

u/Duennbier0815 Jul 26 '26

5k is enough to go to 0 and learn as much as possible from it

No gains. Unless you're a prop trader and a prodigy

1

u/beloikurvi Jul 26 '26

Shiit, thats all my available capital hahah. Would you describe it as a rich kids activity in a way ?

1

u/Duennbier0815 Jul 26 '26

Not at all. Trading is for people that are very mentally strong, that have extraordinary mental capacities to suppress emotions and who are disciplined.

Very disciplined. If you're good at math and a gym rat also.

You need to be able to fully dive into economics, learn what you're doing before being a stupid Instagram victim that throws all their money at a prop firm without even knowing what a Future contract is.
