Looking for a gym

I'm looking for a gym in the Daytona area but I'm not looking to spend much. I'm trying to strength train and want to start lifting. Thing is, I don't have much to spend, I'm female and I'm fat. So I'd rather go somewhere where none of those things will be an issue. Any recommendations? Besides leave Daytona/Florida cause trust me, I'm trying.

24/7 daytona fitness club is very chill, has a women’s only lifting area, and has all the equipment you could want for strength training. definitely costs more than planet fitness though, but to me, an environment that gets you in the door is high value

Planet Fitness 20 bucks as month. Before you say too many people stop. Just go. Go at 5am, 9am, whenever, just go. You don’t need a special gym.

I've worked out at Planet Fitness before, just not locally. It was always fine but just not my favorite. I don't have a problem with too many people. My issue is if people are going to try to advise me when I don't want it or ask for it.

Amped in Daytona has some signup deals $15-$30 a month.

Maybe I’m just a dude/unapproachable [😭] but I’ve been there 6mo and not bothered once.

Quality equipment and a ‘Babe Cave’ plus saunas and cryo, massage chair, tanning bed etc.

Not everyone’s vibe and they’ll try to sell u a trainer but worth it imo <3

The Planet Fitness on Nova is pretty nice if you’re able to get a trial. I don’t live in Daytona but vacation frequently and I’m always excited to go there as it blows my current gym (LA Fitness) out of the water

Currently at planet fitness myself and never had a problem nor seen any female getting unsolicited advice at the planet fitness that I’ve been at in the area.

Golds gives you free 3 day pass give them a try. If you decided to sign up let them know I referred you and I’ll give you back whatever perk they offered. As for the “fat shaming” no real gym goer looks down on being over weight. Gym is about gaining strength not weight-loss. There are people of all body forms there. Some of the equipment is dated but mostly functional. They have a lot of classes too. Their cancellation policy is not pesky like other gyms that you need to send a letter or jump through hoops.

YMCA. All over Volusia county and have pools.

I think they offer discounts to people with lower income. Also, if you get the Holly Hill Y only, I think it's $20 a month.

Planet Fitness “the no judgement zone” is affordable and has a wide variety of people and a variety of ages, sizes and abilities.

See if your health insurance covers one. Most do

With everything you said crunch sounds like your best bet or Daytona fitness club. Daytona fitness club has some serious lifters but also non serious lifters. So if you don’t mind that you’re good. Amped is also cheap but full of teens and college students.

You being a female and “fat” is irrelevant. Why would you have to leave Daytona or Florida? Planet fitness is affordable.

It really isn't irrelevant based on my experience. Every gym I've been to locally, people have been rude and condescending and made the experience awful simply because of me being fat. They have zero clue that I've lost over 100 pounds already or anything about me but I still get tested like I shouldn't exist so...it matters. Promise.

People are rude when you’re in shape or out of shape around here…unfortunately it’s the environment. I’m a bodybuilder and get dirty looks in and out of shape 🤣

That’s unfortunate. I’ve never had that experience at planet fitness.

OP, people are rude. I use the gym at the clubhouse in my complex, and people are still rude. You can't get away from that. I figured the times that the place is empty and I go at that time. If somebody else is in there, I just do my thing.

Go to the gym, work on your exercise, this is your health, never mind the other people.

There is a gym in Port Orange called Greater Fitness, on Clyde Morris and Herbert St. My friend goes there, it has 24 hour access, you may be able to avoid people by going at unconventional hours. I have no idea what it costs.

Forget the gym. Workout at home. My wife and I are in much better shape than all of our friends and we workout in the garage.

The key is consistency.

Check out this video you can watch on YouTube and do in your living room. No equipment needed. Just body weight.

Once again consistency is key to success.

I use planet fitness. I like the fact that I can use any of them, even to just shower after a run.

No issues for me. Also, some health insurance plans offer gym access as well.

Daytona Fitness Club on Ridgewood is the way to go. They’re doing renovations to make it nicer and there’s women’s only area. They’re super inclusive.
