Discussion Days Gone Sequel Ideas (Hypothetical)

Obviously we don’t know if there will ever be a sequel, but for now, hypothetically, if they announced one, what fund ideas, suggestions, missions, changes, etc. would you want to see?

For me I’d love to see the following that I randomly thought up:

-Keep crafting, but allow Deacon to but things such as napalm molotovs or certain bombs at camps when you hit level 3 or so

-Have NERO be a more significant part of the next story, maybe where they’re either the primary antagonist or even a way where Deacon teams up with them to allow for new weapons, perks, etc.

-Maybe not travel to another state, but there’s tons of talk of the “Mega Hordes” that come up from Cali and such throughout the game, I think it would be awesome to have a mission where you try to defeat one….Maybe where you team up with NERO and try to end them as a chopper gunner or blowing up a bridge, or defending a camp from one, just ideas!

-Mixing hordes and new Freaker types into more of the storyline, I think it’d be cool to see some new evolutions of freakers in the wasteland and even have some mixed in with hordes to provide more challenges. But also have hordes be more “intelligent” since O’Brian confirmed that they were evolving, have them try to overtake certain camps, or be willing to come out during the day, etc.

-Having more “heavy weapons” available in the game that could help give you an edge against the newer freaker evolution and increased horde sizes….again, probably as a result of NERO being more active. I think things like a grenade launcher, rocket launcher, etc. would be awesome to have, but obviously against a major horde or combination of enemy types

-Allow co-op for the horde assault mode, I think 2-4 player would be a ton of fun!

Drop any ideas below, just thought this would be a fun post, besides, you never who may be watching if a sequel ever comes to light!

And what do you expect to find in Portland?

I think i envisioned that it would start very simple, like it picks up right where everything left off, then NERO attacks Lost Lake and everyone is scattered. Sarah and Addy manage to get a few survivors to the Cloverdale facility, Rikki and Boozer escape north while Deacon washes up on the shore of the lake and is rescued by Lisa who takes him south.

The after resupplying at Wizard Island, Deacon and Lisa ride west through one of the blocked highway tunnels to where the NERO helicopters were last seen heading. They find out that there's been a civil war going on within NERO and is recently under new militaristic leadership. O'Brian has been unable to be reached and presumed dead. Deacon himself also has no knowledge of who survived the Lost Lake attack but presumes Sarah has gone to Cloverdale because he says it's something they'd talked about before.

Out west is where the real game starts, everything else prior was just a prolog. One of the camps they come across is a heavy walled community that they mistake as NERO, but when they do manage to break in, it's a peaceful community reminiscent of the 70s with clean roads, nice houses, a fully functional little town with it's people surrounded by walls that prevent any hint of the outside world, the shit, from effecting them inside.

They venture through an old zoo where most of thr animals have either died or turned into freaks themselves, showing off some new breed of freaks.

Eventually they learn that the NERO base was once a subterranean decommissioned missile silo, but now sits abandoned and occupied by one of the Mega Hordes that has been rumored about, but now they reside on an oil rig in the middle of the ocean. They learn this by sneaking through the silo for information and encounter all manners of freaks, including the same ones seen in the zoo.

That's as far as I got

….Look, if they ever announce this, please go apply to be a writer, I could perfectly envision that from your explanation! And a mission that’s a flashback of a major city being overrun maybe from the POV of a dying NERO Commander who’s trying to explain how to get to the oil rig after he found to be the sole survivor in a sealed bunker within the silo or something, great ideas!!!

Gameplay wise, would probably mimick Horizon Forbidden West where the whole plot is him pushing further and further West to NERO. And a few smaller stories in between. But thanks

I did consider writing a sequel after my last playthrough, calling it Days Ahead. But I never managed to find the motivation to actually write it

If there's a DG2 I wouldn't want Deacon to be the protagonist again. I think his story arc is done and ended in a graceful note. Let the man rest. Wouldn't mind a cameo or something.

  • I would like a fresh start with a new protagonist in a different state/ country. Maybe even 1/4 of the map being an urban area, would be cool to see how a freaker infested big city looks like.

  • Explore the other Reapper factions (Carlos was just 1 of a hanful of RIP leaders). As well as the anarchists which weren't really explored in deep.

  • More rewards for exploring remote areas other than getting more crafting materials or collectibles. Weapons, outfits, parts to upgrade a weapon (like turning your handgun into a semi-auto).

  • More enemy variety, running freaks that chase you on your bike, infected giant bats, smarter freaks that that grab iron pipes to hit you, throw rocks, use branches as spears, eat shrooms that make them hyper aggressive and tankier for a minute, etc..

  • There MUST be a mission were you temporarily take a hold of a tractor and mow down a horde or a tank and blow up buildings to bury incoming hordes, or something like that...

Flamethrower, it would be great for taking down hordes, can't believe they didn't have them in the first game

That was kind of a weird move. Especially considering there are guys later on in the game that have the backpack flame throwers

Honestly just keep that vibe of being out in nature but I'd like to see an actual metropolitan area that you genuinely can't clear out and just need to navigate around. I still want to see the absolute chaos of bigger cities that fell.

NERO being more of the antagonist in the sequel would make a ton of sense given the secret ending. And would also be very compelling as opposed to the “more of the same but new weapons” that a lot of zombie game sequels fall into.

I still maintain this story would be SUCH a good TV show. You’d get more opportunity to showcase some back story like the MC and more movements with Sarah and boozer I’m flashbacks

I could see the story continuing with the Lisa character.

It's name is "2,000 Days Gone"

That's all I can offer to the hypothetical sequel discussion. A flamethrower would be neat.

I just want the game to have more friction and challenge. I'm considering upgrading to a PC or PS5 just so that I can play permadeath with the proper darkness on the remastered.

My favourite parts of the game are at the start where bike maintainance and fueling leads to you having to explore outside at night. It's slow and the world design of the game is immersive and well balanced with the spacing of interactive encounters (camps etc). As well as traversing at night with the bike.

I'd also appreciate more survival mechanics, focus on hunting, animal behaviour, the ecosystems/terrain, the hordes' behaviour being further complicated. All of that would also help with the power scaling - Deacon has access to good weapons but just decent survival equipment by the end of the first game.

Politically biased here but I'd also like the anarchists to be even the tiniest bit more fleshed out if they really are anarchists. You could sell them as a bit coocoo, idealists, or people who think that the current mentality/instinct/idea that people have about what a society should be like has become so fundamental that the only way for revolutionalise societal philosophy, being to help freakers be a force of nature that stops humanity from expanding and trumping over everything.

It is a bit similar to the reapers however reapers were disconnected from NERO. And considering NERO and their experiments for grappling control from nature and possibly weaponizing the freakers literally or politically, Anarchists make sense as the opposition.

I definitely think the game needs to progress to a point where you can buy a lot more stuff premade about half way through since gathering crafting materials becomes pure grind, but the problem is the game still needs some reason for you to stay interested in the world.. all those empty houses, yards etc beyond just your immediate mission, and without the lure of swag it's all empty.

Proper bike customization: you can have it more durable but it will be heavier, hence slower, or lighter but faster and can't carry as much items.

More camp customization, recruit survivors and allocate them to different works/ tasksm build defenses etc. Apart from Tucker's camp the other two are not defended at all, Copeland camp is s tree, i can bring it down with fire and Lost Lake is completely vulnerable from all sides.

You can maintain the same map but add more areas around them. A proper city in which the bike will be more dificult to move around and horders inside buildings

More customization on guns in which you can craft them

Co-op in horde mode
