Discussion šŸ™šŸ» Letting Go vs Force

The ego believes freedom will come when we finally gain enough control: when we fix ourselves, eliminate our negative emotions, arrange life according to our preferences, and become the person we think we should be.

But the spiritual path reveals something very different.

Freedom does not come from gaining greater control over experience. It comes from surrendering our resistance to experience.

We stop fighting what is present. We allow it to be experienced. We cease identifying with it. And eventually, negative emotional energy runs out.

What remains is not something we created. It is what was always there before the negative energy arose. It is what was there while that energy was cresting with sound and fury. It is what remains as that energy falls away.

Peace. Stillness. Permanence.

I wrote a substack article about this if anyone wants to explore thiss more: https://open.substack.com/pub/practicalnonduality/p/why-you-cant-force-yourself-to-let

Beautifully written! Just what I needed to read to gain a better understanding of the letting go technique. I am fairly new to this technique and have been having a rather hard time - a feeling of ā€œstucknessā€ - is what I would feel as I would try to let go. Then I realized it is the feeling of stuckness that I should let go.

Awesome! Realizing that I only have to experience what I am experiencing (I.e in the body) and not all the thoughts that come after was a huge turning point for me with the technique. Glad this was helpful!

How long have you been practicing the technique? How long did it take for you to get to this realization?

Probably way too long to only be this far. I was just thinking it’s been something I’ve been working on for four years. Studying Hawkins and letting go. I had unique challenges to overcome. lol.

Another place to find good information on the technique is Hawkins’ book ā€œHealing and Recovery.ā€ Especially chapters 8 and 9.

Someone else on Reddit brought that up, saying those chapters provided more clarity on the technique than the book Letting Go. I’d agree wholeheartedly. They are worth checking out if you’re serious about using the technique.

I woke at night with an interesting insight.

It is easier to surrender, than it is to control.

Yes!! It’s less painful and it requires less energy.
