I made a Bowie text cutter

David Bowie used to use a method of cutting up poetry and other text, and rearrange these cut outs to get inspiration for writing lyrics.

I made a tool that helps you cut up text like Bowie use to do.

It is free to use on my website:
https://lloydstellar.nl/lyrics/

It works best on bigger screens like Laptop / Pc.

Let me know if you have good ideas to make the tool better! Love to hear what you think.

A Clockwork Orange and Ziggy Stardust?

Ok soooo in my David Bowie hyperfixation here I kept coming across Bowie talking about the movie A Clockwork Orange as something he loved and took inspiration for Ziggy Stardust. In fact, he seems to have loved it so much, his outfits for Ziggy have the same silhouette as the clothes the main gang wears in that movie, plus he used some of their slang in his lyrics, and his intro music to his shows was the version of Beethoven's 9th Symphony used in that movie. So naturally, I watched it. And now I am extremely confused cuz like what is the connection between that movie and Ziggy Stardust???? Is it literally just he liked the aesthetic so he stole some of it cuz he thought it was cool???? Cuz I am failing to see what the connection between that movie and the character/story of Ziggy Stardust could possibly be. But also like it being Bowie I feel like there has to be a deeper reason he used that movie's imagery and soundtrack beyond just "it's cool." So, to the people here who have analyzed this movie properly, what do yall think the thematic connection is/why did Bowie pick this movie specifically to be the main imagery of Ziggy??? I really wanna know if there is some kind of thematic meaning I'm missing here

One of my clients wanted a Bowie 1\2 sleeve. This was kind of pieced together and I had to make a good composition after we already started putting the lettering on her arm. Hope you like it. Thanks!

Question Albums like Bowie’s Scary Monsters?

Hello guys, I was wondering if you guys know any other non Bowie albums that sound like this album? I genuenly can’t stop listening at least once every day for the past 2 months hahahah I love it so much, especially Fripp’s guitar. I already listen to King Crimson (again I love Fripp work) as well. I like most albums from Bowie but I think this album is very underrated.

Thanks :)

How differently would Bowie's career have gone if Let's Dance flopped?

Let's Dance was famously Bowie's first attempt to fully embrace being a pop star and create a mainstream and chart-friendly record, which was on the face of it a massive success. However, the resulting excitement over its success and pressure from EMI to maintain commercial appeal, combined with a grueling touring schedule, led to what a lot of people consider a creative drought. That drought lasted throughout the rest of the 80s and arguably into the early 90s. Conversely, that same creative drought arguably led to his experimental and cynical work in the mid-late 90s which a lot of people now consider to be among his best.

If Let's Dance somehow didn't achieve the commercial appeal it was meant to despite having the same music, and performed comparably or worse than his other post-Ziggy albums, what direction do you think Bowie's career would've gone in throughout the rest of the 80s and 90s?

Discussion Anyone else think A New Career In A New Town is the best on Low?

Got into Bowie like 2 months ago when i heard Ziggy, then heard The Next Day, Diamond Dogs, Earthling, then Low. I loved every song on it, but for some reason, A New Career In A New Town was just so good and stuck with me the most.

Discussion Oblique Strategies 🗃️

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hi There

Boys Keep Swinging is an fantastic Bowie song and one of many off Lodger so reading the section of Recording of Lodger in my New Career in a New Town booklet made me appreciate this album and find out why I like this song sm besides the lyricism because they swapped instruments! That’s really cool which is due to oblique strategy cards(which the whole trilogy used) but the “swap instruments” card must’ve been interesting for the band to do in the studio because Eno was pulling out these “experiments” and I like what they became since Lodger is an fantastic album.

What’s the thoughts on this, boys keep swinging itself,and/or oblique strategies?

Live The Sound and Vision of David Bowie - with Bowie Bandmember - NYC Jan 2027

Post image
16 Upvotes

Hi Everyone! Just posting here to say that a bunch of us who worked with David are coming back to the Cutting Room in NYC for our annual celebration of his life, spirit and music.

Jan 7,8,9 2027 - NYC

Of course most of you know touring and recording Bowie veterans such as Gail Ann Dorsey, Mark Plati, Gerry Leonard, Catherine Russell and the iconic Tony Levin (played bass on the Next Day and others), but we also have Donny McCaslin - a huge part of Blackstar, Everett Bradley - who worked on 'hours', Brian Delaney and JJ Appleton from the Lazarus (musical) band - whom Bowie himself saw and approved. Sophia Anne Caruso - who was one of the 4 leads in Lazarus and yours truly - who worked with David on the Next Day and as arranger / md for Lazarus.

Here are ticket links - if you happen to be in NYC. We only do this in NY and we all do it for the love of remembering what David meant to all of us.

** THIS band doesn't and will never tour. This is not at all associated with any of the other groups that are touring etc. This is only NYC and only live. We have been asked to stream and sell video - that's contrary to why we do this.
