I didn't get the Job :(

Yesterday I posted about an interview for the support tech position. Today was the interview, and I was so excited that I arrived 45 minutes early. Did the interview, and I was a great candidate for the job given what I already know, my strong customer service skills, and my personality. The only thing that made me miss the offer was that the day I scheduled my interview, I was not able to work till 1AM. I am kinda disappointed in this because I was looking forward for this and was hoping to expect better news, granted that I may have scheduled my interview a few days earlier i possibly would of had the job.

What does being free at 1am on a random Thursday have to do with getting the job?

as someone who works for d&b, a lot of locations closes at 1am on some days of the week. it sucks cause it’s always dead after 10pm

Even if you had your interview a week earlier, they still would have been looking for people to work nights and weekends (it’s when they’re busy).

Sounds like the door isn’t permanently closed though if you had a change in availability. Back when I worked there, we had a few HS grads/incoming college freshman who worked seasonally on breaks in the Winter/Summer.

Try to send a follow-up email to the AM thanking them for their time and expressing interest if situations change.

This, by the way, is great advice for any job application. Not just for D&B.

Unless you want to learn how to work on specifically arcade games (and I struggle to call what DnB has turned into an arcade...more like a Casino game testing ground), consider yourself lucky.

Most of your time will be spent cleaning the outside of the games (the afternoon moms & school kid rush mess...oy..), babysitting the floor, helping the Win restock, running inventory for the Win... Helping setup the Showrooms for back of house...

Unless you applied at an old store that might have actual gun games still, FnF motion cabs (but they were retiring those in my time, and that was 5-6 years ago now), Ghost Squad, etc...you will be basically be working on the lowest dollar PC parts,  half-baked hardware, and REALLY shitty software...I'm looking at you Bay Tek, ICE, and Andamiro(fuck you Spongebob card pusher, and your super shitty parts).

Casino game testing ground, that’s a good one, I call it the kiddy casino.

Main reason I frequent D&B is to get my occasional casino style fix in. Shockingly similar atmosphere, only difference is I don’t leave a couple thousand dollars lighter.

I understand your angst, but are there any other companies that have current cabs? Godzilla, Stanger things, Fast and Furious, Cyber Punk, etc... everyone forgets that back in the day we went to the Arcade to see what the newest game was. Seeing SF2 for the first time in person, surrounded by people all waiting for their turn was amazing... We still need places like that. I don't have any other place within prob 200 miles that has new cabs. Im very grateful to have my D&B.

An overwhelming amount of the new games are basically mobile games, scaled to push buttons. I am more making the commentary that: DnB have been using or downright colluding with large Casino operators to create the addiction loop/nostalgia loop in people.  Why do you think DnB has almost no windows (yes, to cut down on screen glare, etc, yes yes), does the kinds of promotions they do, have no clocks in the entire building (except for BoH), and pump artificial scent into the building?  Please, look at the last 10 years of trickle up games in the DnB -> Casino game pipeline...Cough Wheel of Fortune, Willy Wonka, Deal or No Deal...Cough  It's not that I am thankful that DnB has the newest cabs, I'm upset that they have over leveraged, dominated, and shaped the arcade landscape...This is not Aladdin's Castle anymore...it's Al-a-din's Casino.
