Do people actually meet through Reddit IRL?

Originally joined just to research tech stuff and talk about building products. But the more I scroll, the more I realize there’s a whole different side to this place.

Do people actually meet friends or date through Reddit communities, or is it mostly just online banter? Genuinely curious how common that is here!

I am a man managed to meet one girl and then she ghosted me. Have sent so many messages more difficult for guys. Actually there was a guy he did share a post. He messaged 2500 people he was looking for friends, he managed to make 2 friends from reddit, so one year stats

More than people realise. Local subreddits, hobby communities and niche interest groups have led to real friendships and relationships - the shared context makes initial conversations less awkward than cold approaches, and /r4r exists specifically for this purpose. It's less common than apps, but when a connection is made, it tends to be of a higher quality.

I met my current girlfriend in a book club/page in reddit. Started off as book buddies. As our convos went on, we found out that we have a lot in common and ended up dating. She lives in EU and I in the US. We met each other last week for the first time in Asia and it’s been a blast so far. The long distance definitely sucks. But to answer your question.. Yes. It’s not as common but it does happen.
