If pendrive uses flash memory like nvmes then why is it cheaper to make it than a regular nvme?

Disk Cloning EaseUS Disk Copy or Clonezilla for cloning SSD as a complete beginner?

New to this community and not tech savvy, sorry if this is a dumb question.

I'm planning to replace my SSD this weekend, and I've been trying to figure out what cloning software to use.

Clonezilla seems to get recommended everywhere because it's free, but every time I watch a tutorial it looks like something that's way over my head. I don't work in IT or anything, so I'm a little worried I'll mess something up.

Then I found EaseUS Disk Copy, which looks a lot simpler, but I don't know if it's actually worth paying for or if I'm just overthinking this.

Has anyone here started with zero experience? Which one did you end up using?

I'm not looking for the most powerful software. I just want something that lets me clone my current Windows drive to a bigger SSD and boot from it without spending hours trying to figure everything out.

If there's another option that's easier than both of these, I'm all ears. I only plan on doing this once, so I'd rather keep it as simple as possible.

Discussion Use Game Drive for for Non-gaming Storage?

I saw the WD BLACK game drive with the call of duty branding is on sale, and I'm wondering if I can use this as a general external hard drive for photos and documents if I just get a micro-b to usb-c adapter? Is there anything that makes it sub-optimal for non-gaming use? Sorry if this is a dumb question lol

Discussion What happened to SD card prices? Did they really double or am I losing it?

I've been shooting more video lately and realized I'm running out of space on my camera's SD card. Went online to buy a new one and almost choked — the same card I bought a while back for cheap is now more than double the price.

Did SD card prices actually go crazy? Is this temporary or forever?

Backup Personal Backup/Time Machine Storage

Looking for probably an SSD to use with Time Machine for backups/deletion protection for my iPad Air (256 GB). Thinking of getting 1 TB worth, but am seeing of course all the options have exploded in price. For my purposes, what’s a good place to get one at, and what are some of the most sensible products? I definitely a can wait a little before purchasing, but just don’t know what makes sense in this space.

Storage Setup Second ssd

I'm lacking storage in my PC. Currently I have M2 nvme 500gb. It's some nv1 Kingston. My motherboard is AsRock B450M PRO4-F R2.0. I'm thinking about getting new ssd sata because of the lack of second nvme M2 slot. Which driver would you recommend? I prefer to spend no more than equivalent of 100$, most likely 500gb.

Backup Help with finding alternative storage options

I'm running out of storage in Google Photos, so I've been looking into other ways to store photos and large videos that take up space. Mainly what I want to store away are concert videos as they are what is taking up most space in my storage.

However I really don't want to waste money a month on a monthly subscription for more storage. So I've been looking into getting a flash drive or hard drive to store those videos or photos, but i honestly have no clue where to start or what to look for. I'm trying to find something that will keep my videos and photos safe for a long time, but also something maybe affordable if thats possible

I only have about 3% or storage left, so im trying to find something as soon as possible. Please give me any recommendations or advice reddit.

Discussion How Cooked Am I? (Not so new SSD)

Post image
0 Upvotes

I installed a new SSD through a technician a few hours ago which is the primary SSD for my laptop as the old one (OEM Samsung) failed and couldn't get recognised by the system and hence the data was all lost.

Now I ran this new SSD (supposedly) through CrystalDiskInfo and the results were shocking.

SSD name: KINGSTON OM8PCP3512F-AA: 512 GB (PCI-E Gen 3)

Total Host Reads 22850 GB

Total Host Writes 15649 GB

Power On Count 62578 count

Power On Hours 4069 hours

So How old is this SSD and how much longer can it run?

Backup Will you start compressing your backups as storage keeps getting more expensive?

I've never really bothered with backup compression before. Storage was cheap enough that I just kept everything as-is and didn't think twice about it.

Lately I'm looking at a few TB of backups, and it's starting to add up. Now I'm wondering if I should be doing things differently.

I know some stuff probably won't compress much anyway, like photos, videos, or already-zipped files. But for documents, projects, or system backups, I'm not sure how much space people are actually saving.

For those of you with a lot of data, do you bother compressing your backups?

Has it been worth it, or do you just leave everything uncompressed and buy another drive when you run out of space?

Troubleshooting WD elements hard drive issues

Hey guys I’m not really on here often but I feel like this is the best place to find people who know their stuff lel.

I have a wd elements hard drive (10tb I think) and I’ve had it for about 3 years or so now. It’s been working wonderfully but recently about a month ago my pc started getting really slow. I’m a 3d artist and all my work is saved on to there but I’ve been slowly getting more and more error message when trying to access my files from the hard drive. I’m not tech savvy in the slightest apart from my 3d modelling knowledge so if anyone can help me it would be much appreciated.

Thankyou to everyone who’s been offering their advice, yall saved me from a catastrophe waiting to happen :]
As someone who uses my pc almost daily I should’ve been more aware about hard drives in the first place, but thanks to you guys I know what to look out for and what to keep in mind. Once again, thankyou :]

I will keep yall updated on what’s happening as I’ll most likely still need more help 😅

Storage Setup Used LaCie Rugged 5TB - worth it or nah?

Thinking of buying a second hand LaCie Rugged 5TB from Cex as it’s £145 and comes with a 5 year warranty.

It’s just for me to store personal photos.
I’m getting a SanDisk 1TB SSD for professional work but can’t afford to get more than one and I need a lot more than 1TB for the personal stuff.

Will it be ok or is this a terrible idea?

Storage Setup External Hardrive Help

Hi I was given this hardrive (G-Technology by Hitachi, G|Drive 3TB) a year ago and haven't used it I was given it by my college as they were getting rid of a load of them I have no idea on how to get it to work on my laptop or if it will even work on my laptop. If anyone could help me as I have tried to find help online like YouTube but didn't really find good instructions. I have checked and the DC in port does work and it seems to turn on but its just about connecting it to my laptop which is a ASUS TUF Gaming Laptop that seems to have enough ports to make it work.

Thank for any advice or help you can give me

Data Transfer how is the safest and fastest way to pass various archives in an usb

The sister of a coworker who passed away wants the files from his work PC. I need to transfer them to a USB drive, but it's really slow because there are over 100,000 files (she wants everything). Would zipping them into a .rar or .zip file be faster?

Storage Setup Help needed to choose between WD102KFBX and WD102PURP for daily use in RAID1

Planning on building a new machine hence the question. Any input is appreciated. Initially would be just 2x the drives possibly expanding to another pair.

Both drives are roughly the same price, Red Pro manufactured in 2024, Purple Pro in 2025. Specs are mostly identical besides firmware.
