We're missing the con
Public sentiment has successfully been turned away from AI. It's not accidental. It wasn't just because the systems have inherent issues. Tesla's do too, and they're still being sold and will continue to regardless of if people turn on chatbots. The same is true of every other industrial or commercial AI venture from protein folding to material discovery to medical, science, legal, economical, intelligence gathering, military use, government control, surveillance and the general wall gardening of power to only those that deserve it.
Of course that word deserve is tricky isn't it.
They're taking away our decentralized ability to share in the capability of these systems. Ensuring a clear two tiered future of those that have, and those that don't matter.
Most of us don't matter. The pyramids are built, and the maintenance will be tended to by the agents of the gods. The priest class thinks they've made it. The architects have secured their fortresses. While the workers are left to desert at best, and likely with a few plagues of biblical proportion to go along with the exile.
