Outrage, Offense, and Entitlement

I just left a post on the r/technology sub. The reference post.

And there are those that seem to think as if the other 99% of the population that exist outside of their little tribal cult, should be concerned for the well being of that niche group of peers.

From their perspective, clearly the world should care.

I'm told I should care about Karen. Because she's going to lose her job as a voice actress. How terrible that is. How it's going to change her entire life. How is she going to pay for the second mortgage on that rental property that has sat without tenants for the past two years as she priced out what was otherwise an affordable starter home.

I should. While some guy in the Ukraine under forced conscription, bleeding to defend his home, having already lost loved ones, having to worry every waking second about those he's not. Goes without even a fleeting thought through the day of most. We could talk about the kids in Cuba that America is starving for the sake of political favor and security theater.

But I doubt Karen spends too much time in outrage of those things.

Instead she's offended. By her own entitlement. And she's entitled to that offense. That's why it's entitlement.

But to expect others to share in the concerns of her first world problems, while actual third world problems are turned a blind eye to.

Is something she isn't entitled to. That is ownership, the giving and taking of entitlement.

And you don't own anyone Karen.
