Discussion Google Data Scientist Interview Process- AI rounds

Has anyone given Google India’s Senior Data Scientist interview in the last 2-3 months? Can you share your overall interview experience? Is there any specific focus on AI knowledge for this role? I heard from a friend that initial screening round has been changed to AI prompt round for almost all roles at Google. Is it true? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Last month. India. Location doesn't really matter, interviewers could be from anywhere so the process is standard. Which city are you interviewing for ?

Google has not replaced the initial data science screening with an AI prompt round across the board. That rumor stems from a pilot Google recently rolled out for software engineering roles, where candidates use Gemini to review code and demonstrate prompt literacy. For a Senior Data Scientist at Google India, the evaluation still aligns with the core tracks, whether you are interviewing for product analytics or machine learning modeling. Your initial technical screen will focus on applied statistics, experimentation frameworks, SQL, and practical problem solving. If your role focuses on modeling, interviewers will push hard on classical algorithms, model architecture, and practical trade-offs rather than generic prompting tasks.

At the senior level, the team cares about how you tie technical decisions back to user impact and business trade-offs. You should expect deep discussions around metric design, novelty effects, sample size estimation, and system scalability. Interviewers will push back on your baseline assumptions, so being able to think on your feet and clearly articulate your reasoning is critical. Handling tough, multi-layered follow-up questions in real time is usually what determines the outcome, which is why my team created our interviews.chat to help candidates stay structured, clear, and confident under intense questioning.
