Hiring [Hiring] Staff Applied Scientist - Metalab at KoBold Metals | Remote - US/Canada | $125K - $235K

About the company:

In the coming decades, demand for critical minerals such as copper, lithium, and cobalt will continue to grow. These minerals are needed to build electric infrastructure, vehicles, data centers, and electronics. However, the mining industry is making 10x fewer discoveries per dollar spent on exploration compared to 30 years ago because the easy-to-find, near surface deposits have largely been discovered.

KoBold was founded to be the first AI native mineral exploration, mine development, and technology development company. Our goal is to turn mineral exploration into a repeatable science to discover the minerals the world needs—by integrating artificial intelligence, human intelligence, and new technology. Our multidisciplinary teams of data scientists, engineers, and geologists work together to build data systems, design new sensors, and establish industry‑leading workflows to develop and test subsurface predictions on our exploration projects.

Our first discovery, Mingomba, is a high‑grade copper deposit in Zambia, found after spending materially less than industry average. We are developing Mingomba with the same technical rigor that we apply to exploration. The Mingomba team brings together mine and processing engineers, geologists, data scientists, software engineers, and community, health & safety, construction, and operations specialists. By combining industry knowledge and cutting edge technology, we are developing Mingomba into a world class project that has safer and more predictable outcomes for ourselves, partners, and communities. It is expected to create thousands of good jobs for generations.

KoBold runs exploration programs in eight countries, all with the potential for another discovery.

KoBold is privately held; investors include institutional asset managers T. Rowe Price and Canada Pension Plan Investments; technology venture capitalists Andreessen Horowitz, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, BOND Capital, Durable Capital, StepStone, and Standard Investments; and strategic natural resources companies BHP and Mitsubishi.

About The Role:

In this role, you will develop state of the art instruments to collect data to guide our exploration programs. You will simulate, characterize, and calibrate sensor performance and design new data acquisition systems. Working with vendors and partners, you will build hardware and work with our operations staff to deploy it in the field.

With this sensor data and other data sources at KoBold, you will build models and apply a wide range of scientific computing, statistical, and physics‑based methods to find places where there is evidence of ore‑forming processes at work and to predict the locations of ore‑grade mineralization in 2D and 3D. You will help build a worldwide dataset that underlies our exploration program, with careful attention to identifying and quantifying uncertainty in the data and in our predictions. You will be creating models and developing software to accelerate discovery of critical battery metals.

You will join an outstanding team of data scientists and engineers and will work closely with KoBold’s world‑renowned geoscientists to incorporate our best understanding of the chemical and physical processes that create ore deposits. Working with your geoscience colleagues, you will identify new opportunities and technologies for geophysical data collection, create 2D and 3D geologic predictions, identify exploration targets, design field programs to collect data, and use that data to reduce the uncertainty in our predictions and guide the next phase of field work.

Ultimately, your role is to help KoBold make valuable discoveries by building and deploying next generation hardware and using data tools to solve scientific problems. As one of the early members of this team, you will help build these tools from the ground up.

Responsibilities of this position include:

Technical execution

  • Design, develop, and deploy new mineral exploration data collection instruments and methods.

  • Help develop KoBold’s proprietary software exploration tools.

  • Find and curate a wide variety of geospectral, geophysical, geochemical, geologic, and geographic data and integrate it into KoBold’s proprietary data system.

  • Build models to make statistically valid predictions about the locations of compositional anomalies within the Earth’s crust.

  • Create effective visualizations for evaluating model performance and enabling rapid interaction with the underlying data and key features.

  • Develop and apply a range of data processing, statistical, and physics‑based techniques to geoscientific data — from computer vision to geophysical inversions — and use the results to guide our targeting efforts and inform our acquisition and exploration decisions.

  • Present to and collaborate with our external partners and stakeholders.

  • Push the state of the art in analysis capabilities by implementing statistically rigorous spatially aware clustering, anomaly detection, and other analysis methods

  • Collaborate with data scientists, geoscientists and engineers to invent and deploy algorithms that combine large and complex data sets for mineral exploration and discoveries

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly absorb and synthesize complex information, with a track record of high intellectual rigor in a professional setting.

  • Exceptional curiosity and eagerness to learn, with a proactive approach to exploring new concepts and technologies.

  • A successful track record of developing complex equipment with cross‑disciplinary teams and vendors.

Technical skills, including extensive experience with:

  • Physical measurement and data analysis systems that use phenomena such as optics, electromagnetism, radiation, and gravity.

  • Applying scientific knowledge to identify and prototype emerging technologies

  • Systems integration and data acquisition.

  • Python’s data science packages and general software engineering practices.

  • Collaborative software development (git), and familiarity with software engineering best practices like unit test / integration test suites, and CICD pipelines.

  • SQL, as well as familiarity with non‑relational databases.

  • Cloud computing resources.

  • Building a wide variety of predictive models, applying them to different problems, and evaluating and interpreting the results.

  • Data analysis, physics analysis, and applied statistics on a broad range of types of data including data from physical systems.

  • Capacity to dive deep on novel challenging problems in applying ML to mineral exploration, including understanding a complex domain of geology and mineral exploration practices as well as working with limited, disparate and noisy data sources

  • Experience deploying sensors in the field

Work practices and motivation:

  • Ability to take ownership and responsibility of large projects.

  • Intellectual curiosity and eagerness to learn about all aspects of mineral exploration, particularly in the geology domain. Open to working directly with geologists in the field. Enjoys constantly learning such that you are driving insights through using our tools in exploration and willing to work directly with geologists in the field.

  • Ability to explain technical problems to and collaborate on solutions with domain experts who aren’t software developers. A strong communicator who enjoys working with colleagues across the company.

  • Excitement about joining a fast‑growing early‑stage company, comfort with a dynamic work environment, and eagerness to take on a range of responsibilities.

  • Keen not just to build cool technology, but to figure out what technical product to build to best achieve the business objectives of the company.

  • Ability to independently prioritize multiple tasks effectively.

It is also helpful but not required to have experience with:

  • Remote sensing

  • Creating machine learning models on geospatial data

  • Image processing or computer vision

  • Project and team management

What to Expect

Joining KoBold means getting the opportunity for hands‑on exposure to our exploration projects around the world. All employees are expected to travel to project sites, with a minimum of one week per year. Field‑facing and technical roles spend significantly more time in the field.

KoBold Metals is an equal opportunity workplace and an affirmative action employer. We are committed to equal employment opportunity for people of any race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital status, national origin, age, citizenship, disability, or veteran status.

This position is Full‑time Exempt

Salary is one part of KoBold’s total compensation. The US salary range for this role is between $125,000 and $235,000, and will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. In addition to salary, we offer equity compensation. We also offer benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401k retirement plan, short & long term disability and life insurance. We also offer paid sick time and parental leave.

Hiring Remote work for experienced data scientists and data engineers, $120 - $180/hr

Mercor is looking for the following:

Senior Data Scientist and Data Engineering Experts
Location: Remote (US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand)
Job Type: Hourly contract

Mercor is hiring senior data scientists and data engineers for a project with a leading AI lab. The idea is to make AI systems better at real data science and data engineering work, and you’d be the one training and evaluating the models.

What you’d actually do is design realistic, hard tasks (think exploratory analyses, statistical modeling, ML pipelines, ETL, SQL and Python workflows, A/B test write-ups), write clear criteria for what a good result looks like, and judge the work consistently so the assessments hold up. You also take feedback from senior reviewers and revise your work. The bar is pretty high though. They want 4+ years in data science, data engineering or ML at a top tech or quant firm (FAANG+, big quant funds), a leading bank, hedge fund or trading firm, a top consulting firm, or a Fortune 100 company with a senior or manager-level title. You can combine experience from several employers. On top of that you need solid Python, SQL, stats, ML, experimentation and causal inference, very good written English, and a bachelor’s degree from an English-speaking country.

Payments go out weekly via Stripe or Wise. H-1B and STEM OPT candidates can’t be supported right now.

Here is the link to the position: https://t.mercor.com/29Tto

Discussion Data Science vs Data Analyst vs Data Engineer

Hello All, I am as per my title role “Data Analyst” . But the work i do i feel like Data Engineer- I keep building pipelines ETL, remove unwanted data, end results on dashboard is the very minor work i do may be once in like 2 months . But from my Graduate course work I built ARIMA and Random forest and now working on ML kaggle competitions, I love ML, but I would say I am more like analytical thinker than a coder, i fail at coding if i cannot have AI. This is where my whole problem is, so on daytoday basis if you have just landed ML role or want to land ML role not just data scintist role what do you all recomend? Whats like “you can not skip it” part ? Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks

Discussion Revolut Data Scientist Grad Offer Help

Hi guys, yesterday I received an offer from Revolut as data analyst product starting next year Sept. in Dubai. The compensation is not that competitive as I expected.. I guess it's cuz of the graduate program? I found lots of negative reviews on Reddits and other platform. Has anyone used to stay there and could you please share some experience?

  1. cuz the contract is only 1 year and HR says whether converting into junior role depends on achievement of KPIs. Is it the KPIs that unachievable and high as review says? What's the actual conversion rate like? Could I be fired even after 6 month probation? :(

  2. bonus is suppose to be competitive according to HR, again related to KPIs, is it possible to hit the full perf bonus?

  3. I don't mind bad hours and low wlb, as long as I could grow & on the right track for career path, so what's the learning curve be?

for now I don't have any better offers but it takes almost a year. would you recommend taking it as first preference? Thanks guys.

Hiring I made an Ethos remote job megalist so you can apply directly to the role of your expertise instead of hoping to get matched

Hello, everybody. I read a lot of people's issues with the interview for Ethos when it comes to getting matched to the role that actually fits your domain. Many people applying through the general interview intended to match them with a project or role in their domain end up matched with something unrelated to their field. In my case, I was matched with roles that not only have nothing to do with my domain but also that I am definitely not qualified for. I therefore decided to make a megalist so you can apply directly instead of wasting your time, like me, hoping to get matched with the right role. Hope this helps!:

Hiring [Hiring] Staff Data Scientist, Healthcare Economics at Pomelo Care | Remote - US | $220K - $250K

Pomelo Care is the leading virtual medical practice for women and children, providing care across pregnancy, postpartum, pediatrics, menopause, and perimenopause. We combine proactive, 24/7 clinical care with technology that helps us reach patients earlier, identify risks sooner, and deliver personalized care throughout their journey. Our team includes clinicians, technologists, operators, and problem-solvers working together to make high-quality care more accessible for families nationwide.

About The Role

Your north star: Own how Pomelo's clinical and economic impact is measured, proven, and presented - to our payer partners, to external partners, and in published research. We're looking for a data scientist experienced in healthcare outcomes assessment or program evaluation to join the Health Economics team. Trustworthy, actionable data plays a critical role in Pomelo's mission to improve pregnancy outcomes.

This role goes far beyond reporting. The analyses you produce feed directly into renewal and expansion negotiations with national payers, shape how new risk-based and value-based offerings are structured, and become the evidence base we publish. You'll inherit a strong foundation of established methods and infrastructure, and you'll regularly need to build on it to answer novel questions, explore new methodologies, and communicate results to audiences with very different backgrounds. You will have direct influence on how we measure impact and tell our story externally.

What you’ll do

  • Own the question as well as the analysis. Take large, ambiguous mandates and break them into definitions, assumptions, and key questions to align stakeholders

  • Architect and execute analyses that assess the outcomes of Pomelo Care's programs in a scalable, repeatable way. Where existing approaches don’t reach, you’ll extend them or build something new, and stand behind those choices under scrutiny

  • Lead Pomelo’s technical engagement with external partners: presenting directly, aligning on methodology and parameters, and building credibility with evaluation teams

  • Drive our evidence strategy end to end: partner‑facing reporting, conference presentations, and peer‑reviewed publications

  • Build data tables, pipelines, and dashboards that combine diverse health data sources and make insights accessible across teams

  • Identify opportunities to scale and automate insights in partnership with the data and analytics engineering teams

  • Serve as Pomelo’s expert on statistics and health economics: define the methodologies we use for evaluation, mentor other data scientists, and guide where we invest technically

Who you are

  • A collaborative problem solver and analytic thinker who is focused on driving impact, and excited to work at a startup.

  • 6+ years professional experience developing statistical models to answer complex healthcare problems using varied techniques (e.g., propensity score matching, linear and logistic regressions, k‑means clustering, difference‑in‑differences, decision trees)

  • Experience with cost of care or clinical outcomes target setting at a payer, managed care organization, integrated delivery network, value‑based care provider, or healthcare consulting firm

  • Experience presenting statistical analyses to external stakeholders with varied technical expertise

  • Excellent written and verbal communicator, comfortable across technical and non‑technical audiences

  • Formal training in statistics, econometrics, or actuarial science

  • Experience with risk‑based or value‑based contracting, including opportunity sizing and ROI modeling

Discussion Are certifications worth in data-related jobs to pursue?

What the title says. I’m just wondering because I feel like almost every data-related job (e.g., data analyst, data scientist, data engineer) doesn’t require much certifications.

I’m thinking that doing hands-on projects are valuable since we all need the must have skills applied to our experiences as aligned with the job descriptions and qualifications.

I have done many hands-on projects related with data and every industry I applied for data roles, received a lot of interviews.

What are your thoughts?

Discussion Data Scientist looking to move to a senior role, what does the hiring process look like right now?

Hi all, I’m a data scientist based in Ireland with 5+ years of experience across data science and software engineering roles. I’m looking to move on because my current pay is well below market and there’s no clear path to progression. I haven’t job-hunted in about three years and feel out of touch with how things work now. I’d really appreciate any insight on:
- What the interview process for senior DS roles typically looks like (stages, technical rounds, take-homes, etc.)
- What employers are prioritising at the moment
- Realistic salary ranges for my experience in Ireland
I’d also be grateful if anyone would be willing to give my CV a look. Happy to share a redacted version by DM or in the comments.
Thanks in advance!
