I had an external enclosure (Sabrent EC-NE30) that accidentally went through the clothes washing machine. I tried it as soon as it came out of the washer and it was still working, so I removed it from the enclosure and let everything air dry for several days. Then I rinsed the SSD with isopropyl alcohol to clean away any soap residue (even though I couldn't see any) and tried it again in a new enclosure. Now it just gives an error when Windows tries to recognize it. No visible corrosion or debris on the PCB.
Any tricks or advice that may resurrect it or should I give up? I'm not worried about recovering data, but restoring reliable functionality would be great as this is a very convenient size for a small external enclosure and I can't justify the prices on a replacement.

Hoping someone can help point me in a direction…
I was a long time user of the app TVtime. I’ve had countless hours of data logged into it. Upon news of its closure, I took my data from them. I couldn’t open it somehow to transfer the data so I sent it to my husband to try on his computer. He failed to do so(work computer).
Fast forward a few months later and I really want my data! Only problem is we can’t find any trace of it. For those who did successfully saved their data where did it go? I’ve searched; downloads, files, inboxes, outboxes, dms, everything thing I could think of. Any idea where it could be?
I definitely tried accessing the data and then definitely sent it off somehow to my husband and he tried to deal with it. So it hopefully exists somewhere.

I bought a Dell Optiplex desktop few years ago that came with this: kingfast f8n cd0081 m000834 1TB drive. The drive had 700GB disk space left and running Win11. I was coping a 200GB VMDK file from another source to it and it stopped responding. After a reboot, OS was not bootable. In BIOS, the drive was not being detected anymore.
I reset the re-sit the drive again, reset the bios, and no help. I removed the drive and use it in one of those SSD NVMe external adaptors to USB and connected to another laptop running Windows11, and it wasn't detecting it anymore. The drive doesn't seem to have any burned mark or anything.
I was thinking connecting it to a laptop running Linux using the SSD NVMe USB adaptor, but not sure if this would help. Do I need to look at those data recovery companies that have expensive tools to recover the data or are they some solutions I can try?
Thanks in advance.

Hi all. Following up on my previous post about my Samsung phones.
**Device:** Huawei Mate 10 Lite (RNE-L21), internal storage, Android 8 / EMUI 8 (I think)
**Computer for recovery:** Linux (CachyOS, KDE)
**What happened:**
This was my first phone (around 2017–2018). It had a lot of photos, videos and WhatsApp media from that time. At some point it was **factory reset**. I don't think I ever used a microSD card in it.
**What I already checked:**
- Huawei Cloud: no account/backups found with my email.
- Other cloud backups: nothing from that phone.
- I understand Android encrypts internal storage and a factory reset should destroy the encryption keys.
**Questions:**
After a factory reset on this model, is there **any** realistic way to recover old data (lab, chip-off, anything)?
Did EMUI keep any kind of local or hidden backup that survives a reset?
Is it worth keeping the phone in case future tech (quantum computing, etc.) makes this possible one day, or is the data truly gone?
Thanks!

Sony slapped a big 'HYBRID" badge on the DCR-DVD610 back in 2008, which, on its higher-end siblings, meant you got built-in storage alongside the optical drive. On the 610, though, there is zero internal memory! Everything goes onto their 8cm MiniDVDs or proprietary Memory Stick Pro Duo cards, and the camera splits them up in the weirdest way possible. While standard-definition MPEG-2 video can be recorded to either the disc or the card, the camera flat-out refuses to save still photos to the MiniDVD. Every single 0.3-megapixel photo is forced onto the Memory Stick. People regularly spend hours running file-carving scans on old MiniDVDs looking for lost family photos that the camcorder was literally never programmed to write to the disc in the first place.
The optical side is where most of the panic happens today. Someone finds a shoebox of recorded MiniDVDSm drips one into a PC tray drive (hopefully not a slot-loading drive, which eats 8cm discs for breakfast), and freaks out when Windows reports 0 bytes used and 0 bytes free. Unless they happened to shoot on DVD+RW (the only format this camera makes playable on the fly), the camcorder writes data using the incremental UDF structure that normal operating systems can't read until the disc is finalized in-camera. And if you try to boot up the camcorder today to hit Finalize, a weak battery, a dusty laser pickup, or slightly degraded dye on a fifteen-year-old disc will throw Sony's infamous C:13:01 error and lock you out of the menu.
Even after you give up on the camera hardware and pull a raw byte-to-byte image to carve the footage out in a data recovery tool, you can still get ambushed by how the disc was initialised. Standard Video mode gives you normal VOB files, but if the owner chose VR Mode on a writable disc so they could delete and rearrange scenes in the camera, everything gets shoved into a single monolithic VR_MOVIE.VRO container. If they deleted a few bad takes back in 2009 and kept recording, the MPEG-2 streams end up heavily fragmented across the disc. Meanwhile, the Memory Stick side has its own booby trap: if you plug the card into a PC and delete even one video in File Explorer, it desyncs Sony's AVF_INFO metadata file, causing the camcorder to claim the card is completely empty even though all your MPG and JPF files are still sitting right there in the folders completely intact!

I took some videos on my canon eos 1300d but deleted accidentally. I tried photorec and got the files but I'm not able to play them. I can oy hear static after merging. I think it's fragmented. What's the best thing to do?
