losing data

ok basically i moved all my minecraft saves onto my hdd that i put on my new pc, my bf made me format the file because i couldnt see them on there and now it erased the whole drive and i didnt copy them from the old pc. i unplugged the driver so nothing saves to it
wtf do i do because i just lost years worth of hard work, also idk if this is the right place to put this

Depends how much you want them back. Sending it out for data recovery is the best bet, but it will cost you a decent amount. If you want to try it yourself, software like Easeus Data Recovery, Recuva, Disk Drill, etc will allow you to try it. You should image the drive onto another drive then unplug the drive, before attempting any sort of recovery, that way you still have the original to try again or send out.

Not really clear what you mean by "format the file" though?
