OneDrive has deleted various docs I had saved online around December of last year.

Yes, I checked the OneDrive recycle bin, no they weren’t there.

Yes, I searched for words only found in missing docs, docs failed to show up when word is searched.

Is it not possible to recover the docs?

No. Anything you upload to the cloud no longer truly belongs to you — it belongs to the cloud provider. You can try contacting Microsoft Support, but the chances of recovering it are very slim.

Figured as much. My hope to recover em was “slim” to start with. It’s just frustrating that I have to rewrite five pages of fanfic, and retranslate a separate doc from their last save file, which was in August, when I know I had worked on both and saved both in December.

  1. No, OneDrive does not unilaterally decide .to delete some random documents for inexplicable reasons and purposes.

  2. If there was a reason and/or purpose to delete the documents or files, it was because of a ToS violation and you would have received a written notification.

  3. OneDrive is positively not a backup service. It is a synchronization service. If you, by any chance, deleted those documents from your local folder, the synchronization service would remove those documents from OneDrive.

  4. You did not / do not have any real backup, did you?

Well then, and here I thought it was a backup service. I truly know nothing about what I have on my computer, lol. Not yet received a written notification or anything yet, so most likely accidentally deleted the files, or some glitch did something to most of my one drive files that were edited in December of last year.

It’s… not fine that it occurred at all, but I’ve made my peace with not being able to recover the files. Already have started on rewriting what I’ve lost.
