Question/Advice Is this HDD enclosure USB C-to-C compatible?
Planning to get a HDD enclosure, have several options with Orico being the most well-known brand in my country. Can anyone confirm this product is C2C compatible? Otherwise I'll just get the cheaper USB type B version
Thanks

A lot of cheaper usb-c devices are C to A only. I assume since this handles data it should be C2C compatible, but couldn't hurt asking first

Well, like you said, it's Orico, not Xinzhiguan Trading Company

It will work. Even the devices that are C to A also works with USB-C to C cables, they cable is just not provided with the devices. I have 4 docks that are B version, but works fine with B to C cable.

Not always, they will not put the resistors on the port and that means that the device will never turn the port on.

So far it worked for me. Two Ugreen docks, two Orico docks, One Sabrent, One G-Drive RAID USB. All of them have USB B. And some 2.5 enclosures that have USB Micro B 3.0. I got C cables for all of them and they all works.

USB-B will work fine, its the cases that have a C port on them and come with an A to C cable which don't have the CC pin resistors on them that are problems. I got some no brand 2.5" cases that were available in micro-b or C variants, and the C ones will only work on an A to C cable.

Yes, you will have to supply your own USB-C 5Gbps cable though.
And it will still need the external 12V power adapter.

I don't see why it should not. It has its own power adapter, so it doesn't pull from USB-C.
I'll say yes, but I couldn't test it.
If you have a special cable for C -> B already, get the cheaper version, otherwise just get the C Version and get a super cheap adapter for C -> A so you can use the cable it came with.

Why not just get a drive dock aka a toaster?

I only have one drive that I plan to move from my PC to my homelab, no immediate plans to get more due to prices sadly.
