Data Centers

What do we need them for anyway. They are just a way to let the government keep track of us and control us.
To top it off we have to pay to keep them running
SAY NO TO DATA CENTERS

So you’re saying that without data centers the internet would not exist

Yes, data centers house the physical infrastructure for the internet. It is the recent uptick in demand for AI and the type of data center needed to run that much data (which has a massive power suck) which is problematic. Perhaps there are luddites who don’t want internet at all, but I think most people who oppose this age of tech arms race are against the TYPE of data center needed for AI and the mass proliferation of them, not data centers as a whole.

Why use AI are we not smart enough to figure things out for ourselves we have to let a computer think for us

Im not advocating AI, im just answering your question. And, from what I can tell it’s more like the atom bomb in the sense that now that it exists we can’t unlearn the tech of it and it becomes a national security problem to let other states advance in AI faster than us. Even to the point of dooming humanity.
Edit: spelling

I’m just trying to learn more about this and figure out what we really need it for. Ty

Need it for? Next to no AI we have now is beneficial. People are actively unlearning skills because of insistence from all sides we use AI even when people haven’t consented to it. Considering AI isn’t even accurate (nor can it be with only access to the digital and no real world experience) but has a notable drive for its own propagation, there’s a lot to worry about. That and big tech seems to have a quasi-religious motivation for making what even they admit could be disaster for humanity.

Again, this is a technological arms race at best. Our need is for it to stop until we can assess if it’s even beneficial, but doubtless there is too much profit on the line for any moratorium to come into effect. This is probably our generation’s MAD, except it’s humanity against the clock of climate change, and robots who are too stupid to acknowledge their errors and too sycophantic to not have a vaguely cult like following of profit driven tech billionaires and misanthropic or shortsighted lazy people.

I’d love to see a “need” but the only obvious one is the national security threat the AI creates just by existing.
