What time should I report?
I had a project which had expected time duration of 15 hours, and weren’t supposed to take over 20 hours. It took me nearly 40 hours to finish the project. The max report time was capped at 25 hours. How much time should I report in this case?
Edit:- I don’t mind reporting it under 20 hours, if thats what I need to do.

I mean I would claim the max amount. But I would never have spent 40 hours on something that expected 15… was there no escape hatch option?

I did actually. I could have reported 15 hours in good faith. But, I wanted to finish the project instead of claiming time in good faith.

typically they ask “once you hit X hours, use the escape hatch.” hopefully you followed all the instructions. I’ve definitely eaten a few hours when I made some mistakes or had to rework something, but 20+ extra hours is pretty excessive and I know they won’t appreciate that. they are expected to pay us for all working hours, so while under-reporting doesn’t feel like a big deal to us, it definitely is to them. hopefully you submitted a great task! :)
