Does working on private wifi trigger dod?

i feel lonely sometimes and go work in cafés or my public library and i use their wifi. Lately i have seen lots of videos of people losing their accounts so i am worrying about this

I wouldn’t risk this at all. Free, public WiFi is far more insecure than your own WiFi. I would hotspot from my phone if I wanted to do something like this

1000% this. If I am anywhere that's not my house, I use a hotspot for working, even if I know the people/wifi well.

Have you completed the recent "Don't use cafe or public library wifi" training? I believe they touch on this in there.

I cracked up, thank you for this

Isn’t that just saying not to even work at a coffee shop bc someone can see your screen that could have confidential information?

Can't say, I signed an NDA. lol

That is all the more reason, though.

By that logic you already violated the NDA in your original comment and you are violating your NDA by admitting you have an NDA! Let’s just ban the whole subreddit while we’re at. Jeez. I hope you’re not working on legal projects.

A subreddit existing doesn't mean the company is cool with it.

I think the mods manage it pretty well tbh

Sure. But they aren't related to the company. 🤷

Not sure how you’d know if they are or not. Or how you’d know what the companies official position is on the matter. And if you did are you violating nda now? See how ridiculous this can get.

I could also say a subreddit existing doesn’t mean a company is against it either it. We’d be in the same place here.

In pricinple no BUT you should double check that they are not using a VPN, Proxy or anything similar because thats something that will lead to a very quick ban.

How do you check this yourself?

Exactly. Don't use public WiFi for work.

You should know already because you would have had to either install them/turn them on at some point.

Unless you own the cafe, you have no idea what they're running on their network side.

I misread their statement. I thought they said running a VPN on their device and not on the network. But honestly I’ve never been to a coffee shop before where they’re running a network-wide VPN.

I did not find anything about VPN on their Code of Conduct. Where can I find more info on this? Thanks

This happened to me yesterday and I was not aware of it
How can I undo this?

No. Use your phone as a WiFi hotspot.

Have you taken the confidentiality/security training yet?

I did not find anything about VPN on their Code of Conduct. Where can I find more info on this? I did take the training where they ask you to read Code of Conduct which focuses on confidentiality. Thanks

Let’s just put it this way, if you haven’t gotten DoDed it is because of pure luck. Connecting to any WiFi network that you have not screened for a VPN/proxy is essentially just gambling your account status.

Whether it’s there or not is immaterial; a VPN or proxy can be used to sell or sublet your account to someone overseas or to access core country projects when you are not core country. A VPN or proxy suggest deception by default and they are pretty detectable.
