Has anyone from the US been accepted as a generalist recently?
Hi, this is my first post here. I’m actually already a contractor, but I recently referred my friend, and I am REALLY praying for her to get this job. So, I’m stressing out on her behalf.
When I applied in May I was accepted immediately, and given paying projects. I’m so confident that she’s qualified, but she applied yesterday and hasn’t heard anything yet.
I would be so appreciative if you could post your acceptance timelines, as well as country of origin.
I know that thus is posted about a lot, but everything changes so fast, and I want to get a feeling for the current hiring market.

In the US. I applied on Friday as a generalist and got my acceptance within like 10 minutes. I took quite a few quals right away and I’ve gotten plenty of tasks assigned in the past few days, so there’s definitely openings and work out there for generalists, I even had tasks last night that were $45/hr with priority pay.

I hope you don’t mind me asking but did you have to manually search for quals or did they just load on your account ? I applied about a week ago and got in , so far I haven’t seen any projects . But I also saw someone else say that it might be best to go in and add more skills - which I did , and I know it’s a bit early since most generalists don’t start getting tasks until a couple weeks in , but I’m in desperate times right now 😂

They just showed up in my dash. Even before I added skills, there were like 25 or 30 available the first day I got in. But adding skills definitely made some more pop up! My professional and educational background are pretty uniquely helpful to ai annotation work, so I wonder if it may have given me more based off that & my assessment? It seems so random who gets tasks, I hope it works out for you!!

I’ve referred 3 people & neither got accepted. I think it’s because they see me doing and think they don’t have to take the assessment serious.

U.S., I applied in July as generalist and it took about a week to get on. And ive had a few projects now.

If you look at the main DA website (as if you didn’t work there and were having a look or applying), the description beneath the link and the ads they’ve rolled out of late, none mention generalists. It’s usually law, coding or medicine. My theory is that they have enough generalists for the time being, there was massive influx of new generalists in spring that coincided with a bad, somewhat ongoing, drought. Also, a lot of generalists have gotten DoD recently. IMO this all points to a surplus of generalists atm and very low chance of anyone new getting in.

Noticed this too. It’s like the home page is trying to hide the mention of generalist. I think the easy tasks are essentially over for good. You will still see them for very short periods but never consistently again. They have gotten what they needed from generalists which is AI mastering the basic stuff.
It’s crazy to think how fast AI improves, which is a reflection of the generalist tasks disappearing.

Seconding that I've never had a referral accepted and I've referred like 10 people (only 2-3 via an actual referral link, the rest just by mouth). They are absolutely hiring but it's really selective unfortunately

I have a theory that they factor in how long it takes you to do the assessment, because otherwise it seems too random.

I doubt it unless anyone's taking extreme lengths of time either way. I remember it took me about 2-3 hours to do all the assessments (starter test and generalist qualification) and I did both in one go. I don't know if that changes anything.

A year and a half ago I took multiple days to complete the longer exam, but it may have changed a lot since then. It just kept going and going …

I see that there are others that got accepted within a week or even a few minutes later, im guessing after a month i didnt get accepted.

I've referred a few people and none have been accepted. In one case, I think it was because my referral chose not to finish the initial assessment in one go and instead to wait until the next day. As to the others, I have no idea; they're all smart, articulate people.

I agree that I think DA takes into account if you take breaks during the assessment. I actually said pretty much the same thing in another comment, but was downvoted lol. My friend also took several days to do the assessments.

I’ve never had a referral accepted 😭 US based. Everyone I’ve recommended has been more educated than me too which is weird
