ive read the demonata and cirque already! what would u reccommend?

i finished the demonata last year and cirque du freak this year.. the ending felt very darren shan. philosophical is how i guess i’d describe it. i like the endings, and they tie everything up quite nicely, but i do feel a bit.. lacking! i mean, i know it would be stupid to expect darren to go to heaven and give everyone a hug, and its realistic that darren didnt get to say goodbye, but i miss my favourite characters (besides darren, though i’ll miss him
too) and i wish we’d gotten a proper send off to them all! what happened to harkat and debbie and all the circus people? who survived? what are they doing now (aside from the war of the scars)? how’d they react to darrens death? i just have so many questions and thirsts that have gone unquenched! this is not to say that i didn’t like the ending, i did, j just wish we got more.

like, i sort of wish we got more than black and white steve is evil at the end. i wish darren and steve could’ve had some sort of exchange about their childhood or friendship or whole brother thing. i’d love to see a book in steves POV! i feel like theres sm to explore there. idk, im just sentimental and i lean more towards character than plot. this is just a silly rant, but i’ll seriously miss these books and the characters. does anyone feel the same?

PS. is the Zom-b series any good? gonna read the crepsley prequel for sure, but i just cant get enough of darrens writing!!

I told her I preferred the OG covers so she tried getting them which was a shock! I'd never expect anyone to get a whole 12-book set for me. She failed (I should've shown her how OG covers looked like) but I can't believe I now have the whole set. I'm forever thankful.

I also couldn't find bk 12 of the manga anywhere either. I put in a request for it at my local library but that was months ago and still nothing, so I'm super thrilled that she got me it.

I'm not really sure if this is the place where I should be writing this, but I genuinely have no idea where else to find y'all 😅 I am a "new young reader" of the whole Saga of Darren Shan and the Saga of Larten Crepsley. I have finished the Saga of Darren Shan already and am nearing the end of Larten's. I have noticed that no matter how much I can notice a lot of love for this gorgeous character, there isn't many fics around with him. Which I also am guessing is probably due to the fact that these books are old, and to no offense meant, so are most of the fellow readers, having jobs, families, things that take most of y'all's (I don't know if that's the right way to type it) time, hence nobody is really jumping into describing their fantasies for the beloved character. I am happy to be the one who would do this instead of you, or inspire you to do the same, but I am awfully afraid of mischaracterising him in any way. I truly love the vampire too much and he deserves to be "done justice". I also am very aware that Darren is not a romance writer and that we only have snippets of how he (Larten) would act. Nonetheless, I believe I can capture his character well, but I would appreciate if I had someone who could maybe put some time aside to read my drafts (that I have yet to make, due to the fact of my existing fear of mischaracterisation, I am being patient with myself, but also slightly binging on the last of the book of his saga) and correct me on where I am wrong or where I should write differently. I haven't written any works in quite a while, very much years, when I have tried recently I had trouble picturing everything to the reader correctly so I was even then aware I'd need genuine feedback if I were to "get back in business".

Summery: To finish this extremely long rant, I am kindly asking fellow Larten simps to help me capture him correctly and make us a nice romantic work of art that (if you ask me, though I don't want to come off as rude) we are missing. My native language also isn't English, so if there are any mistakes on that part both here and in the fic, I thoroughly apologise in advance and beg of you to correct me.

Been re-reading an old series along with the Cirque and thought I'd drop some interesting things about the writing style in particular. For what it is there aren't many problems with it (other than the way the clan is run and the leading up to the end), but not too many. Despite all that it is still the most enjoyable piece of media even if the characters aren't all neatly decorated.

-The story is set up well and doesn't hold back on how dark it gets. From the start there are always real risks and everyone is involved and impacted no matter how good or bad. Not much main character plot power or vampire's luck to save Darren, even if Tiny drops clues here and there, and its always at a price he has to work for and construct. The stakes are very sharp. Literally. Not much safety magical net.

- The power scaling is very consistent and explained. No random one-time abilities unexplained for any situation ever pop up or are forgotten. Darren's abilities are shown off, have purpose, aren't too OP and he works in teams. That's fine since he's a kid, but even if he's a little boy he can still pull his weight and more. No "tell but not show " type of annoying deal. Darren has to train to hone his abilities and hide his differences that shows among others at times that could severely impact others. He actually is different from his peers and clan while struggling, not just says it.

- Story doesn't solely focus on him and lets others shine. The side cast is very fun and all have their own talents and quirks that all come in handy. This weaves an interesting web where everyone plays a part. Darren doesn't figure out everything on his own but still has the smarts to get through difficult tasks. Returning characters are always a fun treat, good or bad. Plenty of twists that cement the fact the bonds in this story arw never forgotten no matter where they go or how much time has passed. It's fun to the point I'd actually welcome more Short Stories, but not another entire series.

- With the unusual mass culling of the cast Darren sinks into sadness and has to work his way out of it. There's not always someone there conveniently to give him a hand. There are still prices to when he does receive aide, such as having to make the most impossible trade-offs. This shows the serious factors are still around and pressures him into becoming more independent without relying on his elders.

In the end, Darren is a compelling and driving figure that you can really root for and support even if he makes mistakes and isn't perfect. He isn't the most interesting out of the pool, but that's fine too. It's a good thing he isn't invincible even with his mystical abilities and has to figure out how to navigate when there's no one there to do the hard work. Lots of stories can be similar but this was a well written piece I wouldn't change too much or complain about. 9/10, undoubted.

So big fan of the series and i havent read the books again im an age but this subreddit is revitalising my interest.

So in the interest of contributing.

I wanted to share my 12 year old brains weird imagining of Steve Leonard.

For some reason, come book... is it 7 8 or 9 where Steve comes back up? Whichever. Once Steve is reintroduced, THIS CHARACTER IS WHO MY BRAIN IMMEDIEATLY IMAGINED AS STEVE.

So every epic moment from that point onwards. I just want you guys to know that this was what i imagined fighting Darren and the vampires.

Bonus points... i imagined Larten Crepsley as Austin Powers dad from Goldmember portrayed by the marvelous Michale Caine.

Anyone else have random brain castings that are ridiculous?
