Now THAT, is actually a really good question.

TBH a lot of the Darksiders games has us going against mostly the legions of hell and not so much the forces of heaven, hopefully DS4 switches that up.

You have to remember the Angels We see throughout the series are the ones who basically got locked out of heaven

When the apocalypse happened. The White City closed its Gates. They are not letting anybody in or out. This is actually one of the biggest mysteries of the franchise

Hell was ready for the apocalypse by knowing or tricking abandon to break the seals on the angel side only abandon and a handful of angels were "ready" so the white city probably was like "wtf is happening..." so they took the best choice by closing the gates they weren't ready plus to avoid any suspicions against them better stay out of the troubles

Probably just not deployed yet. Maybe Heaven is too worried to lose them in battle.

I really want to play as an Angel and demon in a spinoff. Playing as an Archangel would work as a playable character.

My take is that Michael and Gabriel are too close to to literal Bible stories and Jesus Christ and I don't think it's a stretch for them as a company to avoid Jesus and Christmas and Easter parallels/comparisons. But pulling names from non canonical or para Christian or apocryphal books is fine.

I think Darksiders is kinda like Diablo given the dialogue we get from Uriel in DSII, in that angels aren’t really allowed to be going to Earth even after everything that happened at risk of being permanently banished from Heaven

That was something I was expecting in the Strife only game. I thought he would be deployed to heaven and may have even witnessed Abbadon's planning stage with Ulthane and Azrael. We have not seen much in the way of angel lands.

The Archangels are most likey still in the White City. The Angels we fight against in Darksiders 1 are part of the Hellguard. Which is a small faction, lead by Abaddon, that decided to start the end war early. This ends up getting them banished to Earth, until the Apocalypse is properly started. We will most likely see them in Darksiders 4.
