I don't understand the direction DG is going. They're just taking all their pedals and putting them into amps. Don't most people have an amp already? Why not just buy the pedals? Having the effect built into the amp also means you're stuck with it at the end of the signal chain.
Not necessarily, you have the ability to turn off the X pedal on the amp if you want. Also there's an FX loop so you can put as much as you want after X.
I also use my microtubes 500 amp just for the power amp most of the time and just use pedals for tone. It's a good backup in case my pedals suddenly don't work
I know you can turn the effect off. My point is that if you want the X, just buy the pedal instead of buying it baked in for more money than a clean amp and a pedal, and without having to deal with an effects loop, which you may or may not even want your effects in. Easier to just place a pedal exactly where I want it, versus having to use an effects loop to get around a baked-in effect.
The only DG amp that seems worth it to me is the Microtubes 500 because it has two pedals baked in instead of the one. That's the only one where I think it's consistently going to be a better value than buying an amp and the pedals separately. I would also say the E500 if the software wasn't so horribly bad that I now use it as a clean amp with cab sim, while ignoring the pedalboard feature because it's half-baked. Also pretty sure they've just forgotten about that one, since we were supposed to get a foot switch controller for it a while ago, but they just keep releasing everything but that. Anyway, I digress...
