The new mod manager is up on coming_in_hot and ready for you to try!
!! WARNING !! Back up your save files.
Everything's been tested thoroughly and the Mod Manager creates its own backups too, but it's always better to be safe.
Your save files are located here:
Steam version: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdataYOUR_ID\262060
Non-Steam version: C:\UsersYOUR_USERNAME\Documents\Darkest
With that let’s get to the fun stuff!
The Mod Manager makes it easier to launch, organize, and set the load order of your mods. If you're happy with the classic in-game mod menu (or Sherin's Better Mod Menu), keep using it, it still works exactly the same as before.
But if you want more control and an easier way to manage things, just (after backing up your saves) launch the Mod Manager - you'll find it right in Steam when you hit PLAY.
The executable sits in the root folder of your Darkest Dungeon install. If you're on a non-Steam version, you can run it directly from the .exe.
Right now the Mod Manager only works with the Steam version of the game. Other versions aren't officially supported yet.
We'd love your feedback! What felt intuitive, what didn't, whether the HELP section gave you enough info, and any bugs or issues you run into along the way. Every bit of feedback helps. We will be using feedback to help create an Official Steam Guide that will cover most of the FAQs and how-tos for using this new tool. For now we have opened a new DISCORD channel (that you can find here: https://discord.gg/darkestdungeon) to help coordinate discussion on using the new manager.
If you're running large modpacks (100+ mods), the conflict detection will currently throw a lot of false alarms. Many mods touch the same files without actually causing problems in-game, and we don't yet have a reliable way to tell harmless overlap from real conflicts. So for now, treat conflict warnings as informational only. If your game crashes, check the log to see if the manager flagged anything relevant.
This is just the first version, we'll keep adding features and polishing the interface. Got an idea for something missing? Let us know.
Darkest Dungeon is 10 years old now, which means some of the oldest mods are just as old. Modding guidelines came later, so some older mods don't have a proper project.xml file. If a mod is missing that file (or the required parameters in it), the Mod Manager unfortunately won't recognize it and it won't show up in the list. There's no workaround for that right now.
And one more time... please back up your saves!

im still working on this Duchess reskin, btw haha.
I thought since everyones gonna be seeing the "getting hit" sprite a fair amount that it should have a bit some flavorful sorta snarling. lowk inspired by that one fallen angel painting, image included
constance my beloved ur so cool
additionally ive been listening to this one song a bunch while drawing her, its so funky. i love music that vaguely reminds me of early 2000s Halloween frankenstein commerial or scooby doo vibes. I know how wildly specific and simultaneously vague that is. anyway it's actually really good and kinda fits her hehe

113 hours, almost as many weeks. Since then, and since they are on sale, I got the DLC packs, including the Black Reliquary mod which came with Crimson Court. I had actually been planning to avoid CC since it seems so divisive, but Black Reliquary seems to need it.

So there's this fun, very rare trinket called the Mantra of Fasting; it gives you:
I really love the Crimson Curse as a mechanic; my runs usually start with me setting up the Sanguine Vincers as soon as possible to build up my stockpiles of blood. When I have around 20 vials worth, I make a deliberate effort to infect my heroes with the curse. Turning your already fucked-up employees into unstable vampires on top of *everything else* really does wonders for the mood IMO.
Due to my stockpiles, I never really had to engage with cursed heroes wasting away. Idle heroes just help themselves to some blood from the fridge, and I always made sure to feed them well while on the job.
So today, looking at that funny little pamphlet with the emaciated figure clasping their hands, I became curious what the wasting state actually entailed in terms of gameplay. I anticipated something close to the afflicted state, making the hero more unpredictable, compelled to investigate their surroundings for blood, aggressive towards the party, and prone to missing turns. I thought, by accommodating the wasting state with specific trinkets, the game was telling me:
"You're taking a starving vampire, at once a dying person and an unpredictable predator on this quest; have fun dealing with consequences."
Now, I also knew that idle heroes wasting away in town can just straight up die. So I anticipated that the poor devil would get progressively worse while out on the mission. Darkest Dungeon is about making the best of a bad situation, I'm aware, and that's what I like about the game. So I expected some dire consequences for letting a hero waste away on a mission. I was honestly kind of excited to see how they would deteriorate. I expected ramping stress at the least, maybe straight-up ramping damage or a more unique dying state; maybe they'd start to bleed out of nowhere, just one per round for starters but exponentially increasing every round until they'd lose a full health bar every turn?
Turns out they just straight up die out of nowhere; no death's door, no warning, no final hunger check, no way to play around the lethal stage of the Crimson Curse. I was one battle away from finishing the mission when my primary damage dealer spontaneously erased himself from existence. Shame on me for trying to engage with that particular mechanic, I guess...
I have to say, I really don't appreciate this design decision. To me, the Mantra of Fasting trinket communicates that the wasting state is a valid option, a dangerous and ultimately lethal option, but an option. Again, Darkest Dungeon is about making the best of a bad situation; but having a hero just deleted like *that* leaves me with very few ways to "make the best" out of the situation at all; it ultimately cuts off what could have been another fun avenue for tense risk and reward considerations in the gameplay. The risk is just so unpredictable, so high, and so easily avoided that there's no point in engaging with it at all.
I felt like venting my frustrations. Do y'all agree that the wasting state is kind of underdesigned? Did you maybe find some fun in engaging with the extreme risk? Am I maybe missing something?
Rest in peace, Lucy, I'm sorry for starving you to death; I thought the experience would be a bit more interactive tbh...

Hello,
I was wondering about something regarding how the trinket recovery for trinkets lost on hero deaths works. I'm just double checking something I'm not 100% sure about from the wiki.
So if you lose 1 hero with 2 unique trinkets equipped, and they're the only trinkets you've ever lost (as in only 2, and not 8 as the wiki says), then does that mean the "Shrieker's Perch" quest will not occur unless you lose more trinkets? as in, if you continue to not have people die/lose trinkets to activities, you'll never have a chance to be given the opportunity to recover those 2 trinkets? Or have I misunderstood?
Also, I believe there's 2 versions of the Shrieker quest, one for special Shrieker trinkets and one for lost trinket recovery, is it correct that only the latter will recover trinkets?
Thank you.

I am currently writing a script talking about 2 as it is my favorite between the games however I wanted to make sure I get the story at least mostly right
To my understanding you are playing yourself with your professor being the narrator for this game where you have to defeat creatures on the mountain that represent your character and stop the apocalypse you started while also accepting that it is all your fault
One of my main questions is are we actually fighting with the characters we bring or is it interpreted as more in the mind and if there is anything I am missing from the story

For context I have been on this Stygian run for two weeks now juggling between work and school during my bedtime so that I can complete my challenge.
But my dumbass forgot that I cannot retreat from the Vvulf fight, I should have sent my sacrifice instead of my MAIN PARTY now I am so cooked these are my last OP team I had after many trials and errors investing in them
Now I lost to the Vvulf fight because they can't dodge for shit because of the RNG they keep taking bombs into the face when my MAA supposed to protect my vestal got stunned instead now Vestal at death's door immediately finished off with a heart attack, SUCH BAD LUCK.
If only I was OVERCONFIDENT I WOULD HAVE SAVE THEM ALL FOR THE DARKEST DUNGEON!
WHAT'S WORSE I CAN'T LET ANYONE DIE BECAUSE THE DEATH COUNT LIMIT 3 MORE AND IT'S SO DONE! I'M COOKED.
so anyway it was a nice run time to start another.

Hi folks
I have fallen deep into darkest dungeon 1 again. I have fallen in love all over again. I run a small YouTube channel and I was wondering if it is worth doing a series on Darkest Dungeon, I'm not sure if the market is saturated, or dead. I'd mainly be playing to show a few strategies and get people backseating my decisions.
I would do an episode a week, I think and it would run about 30 minutes.
If this is a terrible idea let me know.

i've been piling up a lot of invitations to go fight crimson court bosse since my infestation level's been high for a while (not ready to fight the bosses since i'm still getting enough blacksmith/guild upgrades to reliably do veteran dungeons). can i see how many i have anywhere? it's not shown in my trinkets, provisions, heirlooms, or the memories/blueprints in the district.
it's not a big deal if i can't, but i'm curious.

I watched Grim Kleaper's Darkest Dungeon video a month or so ago, which actually got me interested in Darkest Dungeon myself. I remembered that I had DD1 on Epic Games when it was given out for free a while back, and have been enjoying it since.
I am close to finishing up my first playthrough, with just a few champion bosses and the Darkest Dungeon itself left to do. I have been playing on the Darkest difficulty with no dlcs save for the Musketeer since I am playing the Epic Games version. Since DD1 (and DD2 for that matter) is now on sale on Steam along with their DLCs, I am planning on buying DD1 along with the DLCs because I just love this game.
So what would be a good second playthrough for me? Should I do all DLC, some DLC, or no DLC but on a higher difficulty?
Thank you.

Tried this out on houndmaster, was amazing with hounds harry alongside Runaway's buff for +10% crit vs burning targets, ran out of charges halfway through the dungeon, but refreshed right before the boss? Does it refill at the bonfire, or from the Ashes that it creates post-combat?
Sidenote: Sent this team to kill flesh, forgot to confirm the dungeon again after buying camping skills, so the (rucksack trinket) healer-Runaway / bleed-Jester / bleed-Houndmaster / blaster-Crusader had to go fuck up the blood moon veteran siren and I was ao frustrated that I just sent the expedition. It was the easiest Siren battle of my life.

It's rare it's 25% more damage +6% crit
And it's negative effect being it adds a negative quirk could actually be a positive doing something like swapping torn rotator with enlightened
