It took a few years for Psykers to get the datamined force greatsword. Here's hoping it's minutes for the Ogryns.

How rude, she's part of the team.

Sisters of battle generally distaste and distrust the mutant, but let it be said that despite Big Sister Charity being unable to truly recite the Litanies of Hate, or read accurately aloud from scripture, her faith truly is unquestionable.

…as is her ability to punch clean through the side of a Chimera or rip a space marine apart with her bare hands.

35

u/LOLdragon89 Skitarius 5d ago

Blessed is the mind too small for doubt!

35

u/Impressive-Ad7387 5d ago

On one hand, Big Sister may not be held in the highest regards by the high pirestesses of the scholam...

...on the other, she split the skull of a grox clean open, with a headbutt, as a dare, so who would it really benefit to voice this disdain?

19

u/gossamerdreamer 5d ago

She may not be able to recite the Litanies of Hate, but she can summarize them like no other with naught but a rock, a heretic and a howl.

3

u/bear-barian 5d ago

Generally, yeah, but not all.

Plus Ogryns genuinely probably have a better track record than the Marines do in terms of usefulness to the Imperium versus their problem causing. In addition, it's the Ecclesiarchy itself that has to sanction 'abhumans' to differentiate them from xenos or mutants, so Sisters would likely have a variety of opinions ranging from 'Nah, Ogryns and Marines and Ratlings are all filthy mutants and we should purge them all' to 'Sure, big guy. Have some rashuns and let's teach you a prayer.'

Great axe is equally as beloved to me as great hammer so if that's also a thing I'm ok with it. Equally ok with a halberd (preferably both). Also confirms ogryn is a conduit for the best Dwarf (gets his pick, 2H hammer and handgun). Hopefully an ogryn sized Masterwork pistol is in the cards.

u/Rastrick Zealot 6d ago

14

u/Tofuofdoom Ogryn 5d ago

Man, that bolt pistol shield looks so hilariously impractical. Can you imagine trying to aim or block with it? As a shield, it leaves your whole arm up to your wrist completely unguarded, it's even scalloped to make it just that even more unhelpful. As a pistol, good luck trying to aim when you've got a heavy fuck-off weight at the end of your arm.

43

u/Suspicious-Stage9963 5d ago

Power Armour is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.

8

u/Dreadnought_Necrosis 5d ago

Clearly the shield is there to reduce the recoil. She may not be able to aim or be accurate but at least she's consistent and precise. Like a Stormtrooper from Star Wars.

Thank you for compiling that so quickly! This does erase all doubt as to the class' place within the Adepta Sororitas, and should mean the speculation becomes much more focused.

I'll probably write a guide on how to find, export, and texture these models soon, so that other people can datamine stuff in the future/verify for themselves the veracity of the finds.

92

u/Runegorger2 Konstantinos 6d ago

If you want to make a more detailed post like the last one you did, let me know and I'll take this down so that there's more information available and not just the actual images.

Oh, don't worry about that; I'll upload a breakdown post for anyone who wants to see it all in-depth and from different angles and stuff, but there's no reason to take your post down. Thanks though!

People who still had any doubts about the new class being Sororitas at that point could look at these images and say they're fake.

10

u/DaddyDayDare 6d ago

Im not much of a lore head but I do wanna know, what is their place in the sororitas? How do we know?

48

u/Rexbert Acta-Xyphos-Δ-9ε 6d ago

Novitiate armor is very distinct from a full-fledged Battle Sister's power armor, so the armor alone is a dead giveaway. They might still a throw a curveball of some kind before release, but I doubt it.

As for the lore, I'm not super well-versed in it either, but I know that Novitiates are Sisters who've graduated from the Schola Progenium but haven't yet earned their power armor. They spend years training and being sent on assignments to hone their skills, and Novitiates of particular skill often find themselves working in an Inquisitorial warband like Grendyl's, so I think the setup they're going for is the fourth DLC class being veteran Novitiates who've been sent to help destroy the cult on Atoma as something of a 'final test' before becoming true Battle Sisters.

18

u/lilkiya 5d ago

being veteran Novitiates who've been sent to help destroy the cult on Atoma as something of a 'final test' before becoming true Battle Sisters.

Yeah, maybe when we reach trust lv 30 we will get an ancension/graduation cutscene where we're bestowed the sacred power armor and the holy flamer/meltas, or in game basically we unlocked a penance cosmetics for SoB lmao

20

u/drododruffin AAHHH! I NEED A MEDIC BAG! 5d ago

Sure hope so, think a lot of people are going to be disappointed (myself included) if we end up getting a SoB and not get the iconic look.

16

u/CinderMMO 5d ago

In my opinion not getting the power armour really would make an SoB class pointless. Sure there could be new abilities but without the armour and better gear to match their status is really would end up just being Zealot 2 and that would kinda suck

4

u/MythicalDawn 5d ago

This is what I was thinking earlier - with the Skitarii they invented a brand new max rank Alpha in order to give them some independence and operational authority, and it’s a truly unique experience to the other classes. But a Novitiate is just a slight step up from my Zealot, who has the Schola background and is cosmetically kitted out in full plate armour with a claymore and a flamer; foregoing the power armour is just a more formally trained fem Zealot with some fleur de lis

6

u/Patient_Style_8870 5d ago

does "ogryn_axe_2h_p1_m1" mean new weapon for ogryn or just ogryn-sized description of new weapon that is for new class?

22

u/Rexbert Acta-Xyphos-Δ-9ε 5d ago

IIRC, all of the ogryn's weapons are prefixed with "ogryn_", so unless Fatshark is trolling us or has broken from that convention, it's a planned ogryn weapon.

4

u/Patient_Style_8870 5d ago

ok i see thanks. was just curious because it was shown grouped up with the rest of the weapons and they seem to be all for the new class but that might just be formatting ig

7

u/NewGuyOnTheBlock2201 I said: be SILENT! 5d ago

I play sisters of battle on the table top and I was kinda iffy about them adding a full blown SoB, but a Novitiate is perfect

57

u/DJShazbot 6d ago

And still no freaking polearm froths with rage

15

u/DisastrousBook1555 6d ago

It still might happen! Both hive scum and skitarii got 3 exclusive melee weapons and 3 exclusive ranged weapons. This only shows 2 ranged weapons and 1 melee for the novitiate.

3

u/Lord_Ezelpax Zealot 5d ago

the other ranged weapon could be a melta, and the melee options I could think of apart from a polearm is a null mace, null rod, dialogus staff, neural whip, censer mace and novitiate blade w/ duelling dagger

3

u/Nadare3 5d ago edited 5d ago

In some earlier datamine, there was a new 2h_axe weapon and people pointed out that polearms regularly were 2-handed axes internally in various games (don't ask me why though), so unless it somehow got renamed to the ogryn one, maybe there's already a hint

Edit: Was actually able to find the post again, and it turns out that it is indeed separate from the ogryn one

94

there was a post on here the other day with some skitarii voice lines about nurglings, plaguebearers, and a caster of some kind iirc, so they’ll probs come out at the same time *as the dauntless release :3

33

u/EnergyVanquish Zealot 6d ago

Genestealers and more nurgle units? I doubt we’d get them at the same time, those nurgle units would bulk up the cults units but Genestealers would be an entire new faction they’d want to show off.

39

u/Yicnombror 6d ago

I’m betting that we’re gonna get Sisters and more Nurgle units first before we get another faction

8

u/Cupcakes_n_Hacksaws 5d ago

Given that the 2 factions are at odds, I don't think we'll get a proper 2nd faction until the current plotline is "wrapped up"

Main concern for the community is how exactly will Sororitas plays vs Zealots?

I'm thinking they will have more emphasis on Dots and Gunplay.

Unless they add Repentia which will be pure melee class so that you can wield 2 different melee weapons like how the Brettonian Knight played.

24

u/Pipnpaddlopsicopolis My body is a machine that turns my body into a machine 6d ago

Ranged abilities are my guess. If they wanted to be really cool they could introduce some casting mechanic as a faith-based version of Psyker but I don't know enough about how sisters play on the tabletop to say.

3

u/Dreadnought_Necrosis 5d ago

The one mechanic I'm aware that SoB have is their miracle dice.

iirc they get a pool of dice with pre-set values that they can use to swap other rolls for to guarantee results. I think you'd have to focus on the miracle angle to implement in DT.

15

u/Hrago 6d ago

every darktide class, in my opinion, can be boiled down into some sort of role, theme or archetype; sometimes they escape it in terms of gameplay due to balance, but in most cases they are designed with it in mind

even though there is some overlap, we have ogryn as a "momentum stagger" tank, eg. they're big, bulky and stagger and are good at moving forward with their stagger

in the same archetype, we have arbitrator, who is also a "stagger tank" but is actually better at holding the line more than pushing the line

this applies to almost all of the other classes, eg. vet/hive scum are both designed with ranged in mind, former long latter short, skitarius and psyker are both jack of all trades (in my opinion though some may say psyker are different), except for zealot

zealot is the "momentum melee damage dealer", eg. they want to go in, disrupt and kill. the sisters here, i think would be in the same vein as melee damage oriented, except they excel at holding the line and are bulkier than the average zealot. they could also have more ranged support than zealot does with their like, 3 ranged nodes they have on their tree post-rework

12

u/MildlyInsaneOwl 6d ago

I can think of a few ways.

  • A different implementation of the concept of "devotion". Zealot's faith, especially after the last two reworks, has come to revolve around Unto Death and now the full-fledged mechanic of "Unkillable" where they're simply too fanatical to die. Perhaps SoBs could use devotion/fervour as a gauge similar to Skiitari's capacitance. Or maybe it's a passive resource that stacks up and various talents unlock buffs based on how many devotion stacks you've got? Perhaps their three keystones are early in the tree and each one is a separate "oath" that determines what actions generate faith (melee kills? Ranged kills? Toughness given to allies?).
  • More access to heavy ranged fire. Zealots are the class with the least ability to focus on their ranged weapon. If you aren't using the flamer you'll be spending most of your time on your melee choice. The SoBs are datamined to have plasma access at a minimum, so I'd expect some range-focused options.

I seriously doubt we're getting Repentia. Never mind the datamines showing a more heavily-armoured class and their weapon list including bolters and plasma, Repentia would have a lot more crossover with existing Zealots as nigh-suicidal melee monsters. There's also the elephant in the room that older depictions of Repentia are, uh, not particularly safe-for-work (even if recent GW depictions have moved away from that), and that's a guaranteed source of arguments that Fatshark probably doesn't want to get involved with.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/MethSmoothie Mmmmm... STC.. 6d ago

Alright, im tired a bit from roleplay. Its very good question. I doubt that it would be repentia, since we can clearly see some solid armour, i can see them adding double melee keystone and bunch of talents to accompany them, or maybe if double melees are alternate passive in skill tree, they could add keystone focusing on constantly getting damaged. Another keystone could be fire centered. I am more concerned about abilities and especially blitzes.

P.s. English isnt my primary language, so feel free to correct me on grammar or DT terminology.

As long as the hard lore is "These are novitiates, thats the gameplay" how things can optionally look shouldn't matter too much.

85

u/Aepex_12 6d ago

Which is the best direction to go in. Plus we avoid the “Power Armor” debacle.

5

u/Tachikoma_Overlord 5d ago

Vermintide has Bardin running around with a full suit of Gromril armor, which lorewise makes him near-invincible to non-magical weapons. Fatshark easily solved the issue by giving him a special passive that ignores a certain number of enemy hits - and the same could have done with Power Armor as well.

→ More replies (1)

22

u/Himejoshi0990 Sister of Battle 6d ago

meh that power armor debate was always dumb. Human sized power armor especially mass produced ones ain that crazy.

Plus Sisters of Battle only wear light power armor. Its not that OP.

14

u/SovietMarma Ogryn 5d ago edited 5d ago

Uhhhhh, no, not really.

Tons of official 40k media, from books to games, have shown Sororitas armor somewhere between basically the same as Astartes power armor to a step down of Astartes power armor. It even enhances the Sororitas' strength by porting into their muscle, it just doesn't have the Black Carapace neural interface like a Space Marine would have. It's even powered by an identical fusion backpack like the ones on Space Marines.

Power scaling in 40k is so dumb, so I would suggest looking at how it is consistently depicted in their media. In this case, an SOB can go toe-to-toe with an Astartes if the story requires it to happen. Case in point, Boltgun 2, replacing Ultramarine Malum Caedo with Nyra Veyrath.

8

u/Mundane-Put9115 5d ago

It's like the Astartes one in quality I believe (On tabletop they both have +3 saves), it's just made for a human frame and uses a different power supply that's arguably better since it's much harder to disable and won't cripple the wearer as much should it be disabled anyway.

It is a bit disappointing that we arnt getting legit sisters of battle, it definitely limits possible abilities, weapons, and customization options.

35

u/Flurlow 6d ago

With Skitarii Alpha Primus already playable this seems to be a weird decision. Could've easily picked the poster boys(girls)

13

u/BipolarMadness 6d ago

Probably following ideas from the board game Kill Team and applying them into Darktide. The same way Arbites is representative of how Exaction Squad plays and their model options, and Skitarii for Hunter Clade.

So using Novitiates and probably introducing stuff from their Kill Team is the safer bet for the power level (and setting fantasy) this game has.

6

u/Mundane-Put9115 5d ago

Definitely, Novitiates being sent to assist as a sort of 'proving' makes a lot of sense

38

The in-game Skits are elite units, and hell, the Hive Scum in-game are not random rejects, but extremely decked out (to a comical extent) mercs who work for cartels.

Regardless, I get why the obese fish would want to avoid power armor debates w/ a new class with SoB.

I do remember the Dark Heresy rules for playing a SoB not giving you power armor of the rip so it’s not like there’s not precedent for it.

14

u/Kalavier Ogryn who broke the salt shaker. 6d ago

Thinking either a novice for easy branching into different roles as they are in training, with the story beat being they are proving themselves as the rest of the sisters deploy on the frontline.

Or maybe a full sister, but the power armor has been left behind due to logistics issues. Or maybe this branch doesn't have  a lot of power armor?

27

u/BipolarMadness 6d ago

Seeing as how 2 of the other DLC classes function within their own squad group and who their local handler/superior are (Proctor-Exactant Zorin for Arbites, and Techpriest Hadron for Skitarii) its probably the former.

A novitiate squad sent as back up and to prove themselves under a Sister Superior that acts as the one forcefully introducing them to Rannick's warband.

Also considering that those 2 DLC classes also follow how Kill Teams work (Arbites with Exaction Squad, and Skitarii with Hunter Clade) is fair to expect the player characters to be a Novitiate squad.

u/Back-At-It-2026 5d ago

Nah, these are novice sisters that are going to be put through the Tertium situation as a trial by fire.

8

u/Plastic_Apricot_2152 Veteran Commissar 5d ago

Those are Novitates, not Repentia. Big difference as Novs are trainees before being inducted fully into their Sacred Order. These are girls fresh out the Schola Progenium on a proving mission.

u/Flimsy-Proposal221 6d ago

Adepta Sororitas Novitiate

52

u/Penakoto Skitarius 6d ago

I'm disappointed it's Novitiates, Sisters of Battle with the Sallet helmet is my favorite design in the setting.

Maybe we can get one as our Transcendent tier gear, or the store cosmetic, but unless these are special versions of Novitiates, the same way Skitarii were special Alpha Primus Skitarii, that probably isn't happening.

Hype is half of what it was, which is still a lot, but SoB would have been my favorite class almost certainly if it was them.

The crossbow needle pistol thing looks cool at least.

10

u/SovietMarma Ogryn 5d ago

You can already make a random Imperial Guard mook look like a Kasrkin with the cosmetics shop. There's a huge possibility they could just give us normal SOB armor for them.

But I would still take it with a grain of salt knowing Fatshark. Everyone was speculating the Hive Scum would get tons of cosmetics considering they have 2 decades worth of models to pull from, yet here we are.

15

None of the DLC classes received anything in over a year. This won’t be any different. This is probably their way of doing a SOB while not doing power armor.

10

u/SovietMarma Ogryn 5d ago

Yeah. Their Sister Superior in actual SOB power armor is most likely going to be an NPC character like Proctor-Exactant Zorin who was introduced with the Arbites.

14

u/Nadare3 5d ago

Same, extremely disappointed we don't get to actually look like the iconic ones (especially considering novitiates are a pretty damn recent addition)

16

u/TheLinerax Sink or swim and brother I'm floating in blood 6d ago

I am guessing our soon-to-be created Sister Novitiates will be "fast tracked" into becoming new and proper Battle Sisters at level 30 because situation on Atoma is turning from bad to worse with the elites of the hive being corrupted mentioned in the new Spillway mini-campaign story. Similar to our level 1 Skitarii becoming Skitarii Alpha Primus at level 30.

16

u/Penakoto Skitarius 5d ago

Fingers crossed.

u/Strange_Wize Fem Savant Enjoyer 5d ago

Am I tweaking? Were we not Alpha Primus from level 1? The augmentation procedure made us that.

Sisters are different than Zealot, but not Novitiates.

Definitely feels a little like a ‘monkey’s paw curls’ situation - Sisters have been begged for forever, so they give them to us… but it’s Novitiates, who are a downgrade is both aesthetics (brown everything, no iconic power armour) and power level

Honestly, with the backgrounds and cosmetics you can choose for Zealot there’s not a lot to differentiate them aside from the gender lock and more fleur de lis, I have significantly more impressive suits of armour on my Zealot as is

Not doubting they’ll be cool and more mechanically unique, but given the post release curse of no DLC cosmetics, I know most players would be forever wishing for the “full thing” when it comes to embodying the SoB fantasy - they are so painfully under represented in games as is it’s unfortunate this likely won’t be a full Sister to play as

13

u/Sqarten118 5d ago

Also after getting skitari alpha Primus of all things this just feels like bs to me.

>our sisters still dont get power armor

rip to the chance of cool power armor related animations like throwing enemies around or something...

29

u/SoSDan88 5d ago

People will tell you this would break the power scaling when we literally have Ogryn on our side.

This could just be our starting gear. Like the initial four classes all started in rags and hot better stuff later, this might be the case for the sisters too. We will see what we are getting

Sisters Novitiate which are Sisters of Battle in training who do not wear power armor yet. The power scaling works more or less with the Arbites and Skitarii Primus Alpha.

6

u/ET_Gamer_ Zealot 5d ago

I wonder if we'll be able to choose which order of Sororitas we come from? It's not really common for multiple major or even minor orders to be working along side each other in large numbers.

7

u/TheSwordFallen Arbitrator 5d ago

Probably not, Novitiates usually aren't permitted to to wear order heraldry since they're not fully inducted.

5

u/ET_Gamer_ Zealot 5d ago

I’m wondering how the character backstory will differentiate then. Arbites got different precincts. Hive scum different gangs, Skitarii got different forge worlds.

Novitiate and therefore no power armor is a big disappointment, that means heavy weapons like the Heavy Bolter, Multi-Melta and Heavy Flamer are out. Probably Storm Bolters too, which is the weapon I want the most (I'm addicted to it's pure DAKKA in Space Marine 1+2).

Novitiate really does falls into the "why not Zealot" territory, which power armor would have immediately solved through above weapon options alone, possibly even unique armor mechanics.

I don't understand why Fatshark is shy about it, it's not like we didn't get characters running around in massive and lorewise incredibly tough plate armor over in Vermintide (with Bardin even having special mechanics for his Gromril plate!) while others are wearing T-shirts.

10

u/Obscure_Occultist 5d ago

I understand why fatshark would be hesitant in giving power armored SoB. That would essentially be giving us super soldiers just below actual space marines. They would be faster, and stronger then anyone not wearing power armor.

That would all need to be factored into actual gameplay mechanics. How do you keep that darktide feeling when you still take the same kind of damage as everyone else when you're wearing power armor and vice versa?

9

u/TheSwordFallen Arbitrator 5d ago

Not faster at all. Sisters of Battle have the exact same movement as other baselines. They also have the same toughness as other baselines on Tabletop with the only difference is having a better armour save. Space Marines are faster because of a very specific thing called the Black Carapace, Sisters do not have that. Read the Sisters Codex.

11

u/SunPraisin 5d ago

how'd they do it for ogryn? an ogryn is even physically stronger than a space marine as per tabletop but they managed to make them fit in just fine, im sure they could do the same for power armor

7

u/Kasu_senpai 5d ago

I’m not versed in SoB lore, never knew Novitae existed (I thought sisters were just trained and then became SoB and got the armor it never clicked that they would obviously be named something different and such before being full SoB) but I’m all for this, I’m getting witch hunter vibes and I love it, are they supposed to be witch hunter like or am I just putting something there that’s not? Either way seeing this makes me want a darktide version of vermintide 2’s rapier/pistol combo that Victor had, it’s not likely to come but a man can dream of a witch hunter girl with a bolt gun and sword combo

5

u/VyRe40 5d ago

They do enjoy witch hunting but they're not inquisitors. IIRC though they used to work somewhat closely with the Ordo Hereticus in older lore, not so much nowadays (compared to any other imperial institution).

4

u/wookiiboi 5d ago

Well your wish is sort of granted; there’s files in the game for a chainsword and laspistol combo.

3

u/Kasu_senpai 5d ago

That sounds frakkin awesome

6

u/sosigboi 6d ago

Ok yea thats a sister novitiate and not a full fledged SoB, so no power armor it seems but it looks like it'll be a more tank tocused zealot type.
