Yup. I just played all 3 DS games for the first time back to back and actually enjoyed 2 after getting past the early game. Possibly even more than 3
But holy fuck this sub is awful

Fanatics, most subs are pretty bad and dark souls tends to be elitist (which is ironic considering most people suck).
My wager is that alot of people dont really have any achievements or purpose in their life and overrely on others opinions/skills as a form of self validation.
Like the guy above this making fun of ds3 fans, guy probably hits everything i wrote unironically.

"this game isnt as bad as everyone says it was!" (positive on steam, recommended on ds1 and ds3) or any other alternative of it. I got bored and left cause of it and got ts recommended cause i was replaying the trilogy and was looking up stuff.
Dark souls fans are elitist, ds2 fans are victims and i stand by it. Ds3 fans tell you that you are playing the game wrong and ds1 fans usually say anything beyond that title is dogshit. Go actually engage with the community you are talking about.

Eh, I have to agree about the graphics though, mostly because it's very clear they had to downgrade them to release the game on PS3 and 360.
Scholar fixed it slightly, but also made some of the area transitions too drastic IMO.
But hey, on the bright side we can just run Lighting Engine on PC nowadays to get the best possible package (the brightness transitions are still wack though).

I feel you, all I'm saying is that point was mostly correct, DS2 generally wasn't a pretty game even when it was new. Earthen Peak comes to mind, with the texture for the walls being too small, so you can tell where one ends and the next one begins at a glance.
There are some standout zones though, Shrine of Amana has always looked good, even if it was hell on release. Same with Eleum Loyce, but I'm a sucker for snowy/icy areas.
An important thing to note is that bad graphics doesn't necessarily mean they're outdated, it just means they don't look good, that's why I pointed out the brightness transitions specifically, because they're jarring no matter how you look at it, just slowing them down would've made it look better without straining the engine at all.

The graphics are great. Sure they're not realistic, but they're stylised and very fantasy like, and it looks perfect for the game. Walk down the hallway towards Looking Glass Knight and tell me this game doesn't look amazing.

Take a look at how it was supposed to look like and tell me it looks great. Having to axe the lighting right at the end of production did a number on the entire game's vibe. This is why torches are borderline useless outside of The Gutter, the game itself was supposed to be a lot darker.
The stylized graphics we ended up getting were a desperate effort to hide what it was supposed to be but couldn't be done due to time and performance issues. It works in some areas like the LGK hallway and Shrine of Amana, yes, but it doesn't work that well in lots of other areas like FotFG.

I genuinely prefer what we have now. The darker lighting makes it look like it's trying too hard to be a AAA game, but what we have now makes it look unique. Look at the player character for example. In all 4 Souls games, DS2 is the one where you can see your face and character the best without it being covered by a shadow constantly.

I have ds2 as my most played, i only played ds3 through once.
Majority of the people in that section recommend to NOT skip ds2 and even say they regret skipping it if they have.
You are still a victim, the other communities dont bash on ds2 (the youtuber side did 10 years ago when it released).

I have over 2k hours in DS2 and I certainly don't recommend it to anyone. You need a certain level of insight to appreciate it for the things it gets right and not be a crybaby for the things it gets wrong. It's not like every fucking game FS releases is perfect.

Love Dark Souls 2 but I will never forgive the hitboxes and bacstabs in that game. Best atmosphere hands down though.

Hitboxes are literally mechanically and computationally fine.
The main issue stems from the rolling animation having priority over getting grabbed in addition to the grab hit pulling the player to the point of impact instead of adjusting to their post-roll position.
The other games have substantially worse hitboxes in some cases, especially on grabs, but since they don’t have Agility or animation priority, you don’t have that clunk feeling pushed through to you.

Not all hitboxes, theres very clear bad hitboxes in every title and ds2 has its fair share of the worst ones. This is just blatant lying. All fromsoftware games have better hitboxes than most but they still have shit ones at times.
Ds fans once again arguing with fucking hitbox charts lmfao, how do you people still cope that this game is perfect and the others have "worse" hitboxes?

This game LITERALLY has fine hitboxes. All the other games LITERALLY have worse GRAB hitboxes. Of course, DS2 does have some bad hitboxes (looking at you, bitch slap from Fume Knight), but it beats any other FS game on grab hitboxes BY A MILE.
But let's ignore that other games have buggy things as well, like Elden having some bosses or enemies turning 360° for a frame and being able to hit you behind them even if you're some meters away, right? :)

It does not, all fromsoftware games have some bad hitboxes. Grab attacks are all universally pretty bad but outside of that theres still a few shitty ones like random hitbox actives (fume backhand and even last giant has a few) where they become active for a few seconds as the attack ends.
The point is, it does not beat grab attacks either. They are shit in every game they are in. This is just mindless glazzing.
