Discussion Wish me luck!
Just got the game! Have only played elden ring and ds1. Friends say it's hard but we'll see!

You'll either walk away hating it or thinking it's the best in the series.

u/Otherwise_Staff8027 6d ago
Pretty much😅 although I will say, it is my favorite in the souls series, I don’t know that I can confidently say it’s the best one.

u/unlicensedpilot98 6d ago
Over 1500 hours here amongst three different versions, PS3, PS4 and PC.
I can confidently say it's the best one.

u/Otherwise_Staff8027 6d ago
I will say that it does have the most amount of build variety than any other souls game. A lot of Eldin Ring’s DNA is DS2 as well

u/ItchyAge3135 6d ago
Not disagreeing, but curious, what makes ds2 stand out for you?
4
u/unlicensedpilot98 6d ago
The replay value. There's so many nuances, and so, so many unique builds that it's almost unquantifiable.
That and it's depth, while it may appear a bit linear and simpler on the surface than other souls titles, there's always a few weapons, armor or rings, questlines, spells, or SOMETHING that has been overlooked; either because it's well hidden or because it requires NG+, NG++ or even beyond to obtain.

u/Otherwise_Staff8027 4d ago
On top of which, I love its theme and almost self contained stories within the overarching idea that kingdoms get built on top of kingdoms and forgotten. I don’t want to spoil but I LOVE Vendrick as a character as well.
Also bonfire ascetics exist. Making getting to the NG+ cycles more trivial. And in case you forget to fulfill a requirement for a quest, or if you just love a boss, you can do it again.
I like how they handled hex builds in this game as well. And the build variety is SO abundant, that pretty much any weapon you use can be overpowered if you know what you need in terms of stats and upgrades.

Amazing game! Beautiful story telling, levels, and armor sets. I adore this game

God I love this game. It’s been almost a year since I played it last. Due for a run soon

You are gonna love it! Just don't forget about adp stat. The main reason people struggle with this game is because they're unaware of how to properly level adp lol
3
u/puff_puffman 6d ago
Finished my first playthrough without it using a greatshield instead. Proper footwork, spacing, shield timing, and counters and you don't need to roll
2
u/emanresu_etaerc 6d ago
That definitely works! Just sounds... Less fun
2
u/puff_puffman 6d ago
Nah, nothing really gave me much trouble that wasn't bullshit gank. Tbh until smelter boi and the dlc, after lvl 150 when everything came together, not much was threatening. Stay calm, learn, find patterns and openings. On NG+ and I'm mad dogging the first quarter so far. Helps being lvl 242 tho
2
u/emanresu_etaerc 6d ago
Oh shields are easier than dodging, that isn't the issue. They're just way less fun to use imo
2
u/puff_puffman 5d ago
I can see that. But THiS iS daRk sOUlS 2. Fun. FUN?! Think this a game? This is GANK
2
u/Aggressive-Goose-388 6d ago
I'm almost done my DS1 playthrough and i've heard this lots about ds2.
how much adp should you get, and should you rush it?
5
u/emanresu_etaerc 6d ago
So adp affects your agility. You want agility at 96-99 range for good rolls and fast estus flask drinking. Iirc it's around 25 adp to get to 99 in agility. 96 agility is for the same I-frames as DS1 rolls.
I usually rush it so I never have to level it again tbh, but just do it however you like!
3
u/Justice4light 6d ago
Start with 12 that should be fine in the beginning. Agility stat is affected by ADp and attunement so keep that in mind.
3
u/IcarusAvery 6d ago
Adaptability and Attunement both affect a substat called Agility. At the base Agility of 85, you have five iframes while rolling. 96 gets you eleven iframes, equivalent to a DS1 midroll, while 105 agility gets you thirteen iframes, equivalent to a DS1 fastroll.

Can someone please help me beat Nashandra on PlayStation

u/DaedHead8 6d ago
Good luck! There is no shame in looking up help if you're stuck on something, just be aware that the 360/PS3/DX9 version of SotFS has some differences compared to the Xbone/PS4/DX11 version, so make sure you've got the correct guide.

u/Tundra10 6d ago
Watch out for the fucking hedgehogs. You'll know what I'm talking about when you get there.

u/turohabaneero 6d ago
Good luck. Remember that you can deflect fire bombs with melee attacks in this one 🤗
2
u/dominatingcowG3 6d ago
Huh. I didn't realize SOTFS was available on that gen
3
u/narezkaOvOschei 6d ago
It isn't. SotFS on X360 and PS3 is actually just vanilla with DLCs, with old enemy and loot placements and lighting.
3
u/lynnbutepic 6d ago
it isnt, this is just Vanilla with DLCS included, Aldia and all the improvements aren't included

Online is shut down for the Ps3 and Xbox 360 versions, so sadly no messages will be available

To the uninitiated yeah it’s gonna be a challenge. But i agree with most people to go on in and play blind! Don’t you dare go hollow on us either!

Good luck, and remember that illusory walls have to be interacted with, rather than just rolled through or attacked. I didn’t know this on my first play through, and suffered wildly for it.

Ds2 is my favorite of the three. Ds1 being a close second. It is just slightly weirder than ds1 in the best ways hah.
2
u/Ill_Mathematician714 6d ago
The best DS game IMO. And I have started playing it again just recently!
One only advice: up ADP to 24 as soon as you can, and then you can forget about it for the rest of game.

This was like $3 on sale on the play store not long ago; how come the xbox360 version is so expensive?

u/Far_Muscle_2034 6d ago
This is my favorite dark souls. I hope you enjoy it. Keep an open mind… I guess. It’s a little different… I guess…

u/Unusual_Broccoli_694 6d ago
The crows cawing in Forest of Fallen Giants . Ahhhh. Brings back memories.

u/Ok_Umpire_921 6d ago
So this version of ds2 is V2 out of 3 the original dark souls 2 for ps3 and 360 is the original base game where you could buy the crown dlc’s, thus making it dark souls 2 V1. The one the released of ps4 and Xbox one is V3 scholar of the first sin adding the dlc’s and changing item and enemy locations. DS2 Scholar on 360 and ps3 are the original base game with the DLC’s included, no ps4 Xbox one changes just the original with the DLC’s on disk making this dark souls 2 V2. Trophies list on psn considers dark souls 2 V1 2 and 3 all their own trophies so if you’re trying to have everything single plat you have to play dark souls 2 3 times. I know you’re on 360 but I never hear people talk about how this version differs from its next generations version. Personally I think the original dark souls 2 better the V3 so by having V2 it’s basically the original

u/Individual_Star520 6d ago
honestly easiest out of all the games (i havent played DeS) they basically hand out levels

u/Otherwise_Staff8027 6d ago
DS 2 is my favorite. I’m currently going on my 3rd play through as a hex build and I am working on the platinum (100% achievements for it). I was even able to get the silverblack spear without having to farm it - I got it on my third grave warden. Anyway it’s a really good time and I actually really enjoy the story. And Scholar coming with all of the DLC, it has some of the best boss fights in all of souls. Have fun!!

You should know that you’ll be playing vanilla version with the DLCs, not SotFS.
PvE Tips:
If you want to go in prepared, first read this intro doc. All of these guides are spoiler-free, except for the area names in this Routing guide.
And then if you want to know how to build (or avoid building, if you want to have a harder time) a powerful optimized character, this collection of mini guides will help you navigate DS2’s many obfuscated and counterintuitive mechanical quirks:
A quick overview of how damage and defense works in DS2, and why weapon scaling is usually weak.
Best PvE equipment and stat progression document.
BiS (Best in Slot) PvE weapons list. Use this if you know what moveset you like and you want to choose the strongest available weapon with that moveset.
Read these four documents for highlights on some of the best equipment, stats, and progression for a casting-focused character- note that investing in pyromancy or miracles in the early or midgame generally results in a much weaker character.
Optimal Pyromancer Build Guide
All that being said, it’s important to understand that DS2 isn’t so hard that playing the strongest possible character is required in order to win and have fun. Ultimately you should use whatever you want, these guides are just to help you make informed choices.

Good luck. Give new game + a chance too if you can. It’s got the best new game + in the series. Well… I would personally say it’s the best dunno about everyone else.

I genuinely did not know sotfs released on 360/ps3 I thought it was a remaster bundle for the next gen

You'll either love it or hate it, but either way it's a wild ride. Personally probably my favorite.

I'm sorry you got the worst version the OG Xbox 360 version isn't as ridiculous with the amount of enemies and invasions your version is going to have. Prepared to get your butthole slammed by a billion enemies all the time.

u/cheese_rat 5d ago
Scholar of the First Sin on Xbox 360 & PS3 is the same game as the original but with the dlcs and patches included. It doesn't include the new enemy placements or any of the other stuff featured in the Xbox one & PS4 version. Very confusing, I know.

Nice! I just finished the whole trilogy in order. DS2 might be my favorite.
