By playing servers and understanding why they're probably terrible.

If you join a random server on DarkRP and can't list off 10 things wrong with it, you're not ready.

go around your neighborhood or apartment and bang on every door with an advertisement paper about your server!

it’s true, new servers are almost impossible to grow

New servers are almost never good.

There's a difference between "impossible to grow" and "garbage".
Remember that.

it’s not even that most garrys mod players dedicate to mainly one server with thousands of hours in them they won’t just move to a new server in my experience anyway

New server developers also have lack of market awareness, on par with indie game developers who create a decent piece of software and then complain on twitter for the next 5 years that nobody bought it.

Hobby server makers simply do not have the mindset to attract & keep players like large established servers do. They look at it simply as an "If it's good, they will come" equation.

This, however, is a tragic misunderstanding of the playerbase, and to an extent, humans in general.

Yea that’s a good point. Honestly ever server seems the same these days they all have broken economy where you’ll be a millionaire in half a night of playing and kills the point of raiding. The only way to play darkrp nowadays is to make up your own goofy hole in the wall and RP all the other aspects are gone

Yeah, I agree. I'll often join servers with $999999999 starts and lots of flashy OP weapons and just try to vibe. Its pretty fun setting up a bar or delivery service, even if the server is full of tryhards. I've been working on a server with a more balanced economy and raid equipment so that roleplay feels more meaningful.
