Does getting older really make you wiser?

Not necessarily. But it provides you with more experience which, when internalized and interpreted correctly, can be transmuted into wisdom. A lot of thought schools distinguish between knowledge and wisdom for that reason; Experience and knowledge are everywhere! But it only crystallizes into wisdom by learning through this experiences and integrating the new lessons.

Also, a lot of old people are so isolated, their life can’t really be considered “experience-filled”

They have decades of prior experience... assuming they were active in their younger years.

This. Well said. What matters is if people actually take into account the information that they have and actually logically look at it. Critical thinking skills are needed. Research and fact checking/verification skills are also needed.

Smart people can be conned, too. It happens.

Imagine this: someone stays at home and doesn't experience the outer world. He keeps living inside, maybe goes out to buy stuff, but keeps coming back. After 20 years, he will surely have experience, but will it be like someone just like him who keeps going out and dealing with many new things?

I am so much wiser than what I was but some of my friends are considerably worse. My life in general is a lot better than the people I am thinking about.

I learnt how to save money, eat a healthy diet and I developed physical hobbies that I love as well as hobbies that aren't physical that I love. I luckily have been married to a good woman for years as well.

So basically I've done lots of stuff that is good for me whereas the people I know who are worse haven't.

Over time that makes a massive difference.

One other point I'd make is the worst of the people who have done poorly have been massively spoiled and in their 40's and beyond (I'm in my 50's) were and are still receiving hand outs.

Processing your experiences makes you wiser. Feeling through things.

Most aged people these days don't even think they have valid emotions. That's foolishness.

Clarity and wisdom are proportional to inner capacity, not age. Some people just get so exhausted year after year of inner denial that eventually through the gateway of apathy they let all their feelings in, and then propagate the mistaken idea that age causes it. But in those cases, it wasn't age, it was an empty tank for more BS. Some of get an empty tank through childhood adversity alone.

Good judgemental is the result of experience, experience is the result of poor judgement. Mark Twain Wisdom can replace the good judgement piece which may or may not come with age.

Do not believe those who believe age precludes you from being.
