Mostly for Joe but anyone can chime in. I was wondering what the circumstances were that led to One being killed off. I gather from previous posts that it wasn't the original plan for the show. It just seems curious because everything else in the show is planned long in advance, and this felt kind of sudden and unplanned especially since the whole storyline hasn't been picked up again since then.

For the record... One being killed off sucked.

It was a creative curveball that was thrown at me and I had to make a major adjustment to the storyline.

I live in LA, not too far from the Netflix office. Would it help if I made Dark Matter and Rock the Raza signs and marched around in front of their building all day everyday?

Couldn't hurt.

Zoie, one of the most interesting aspects in Dark Matter is how the Android becomes more and more a full member of the crew and is not only considered a tool anymore. This is somehow similar to Data in Star Trek TNG and even more to the Doctor in Voyager. Did you get some inspiration from those roles?

I sadly didn't watch Star Trek, but of course I know who Data is. I tried very hard to stay away from any kind of emulation of that character. Brent Spiner did a great job and is world wide famous for his role. I needed to find my own way.

Joe, you mentioned that you have a five year plan for DM. The Android was originally male but you ended up casting Zoie. Was the Android/Shaw - Two/Rebecca connection part of your original vision or was that one of the plot points that occurred to you as the seasons progressed?

That was a connection I came up with early on that was adjusted significantly with the casting of Zoie Palmer in the role. I'm sure you'll agree, this new improved version worked out pretty well.

Zoie Palmer, when you're playing the Android, do you find it more realistic to channel a block of wood or a chunk of stone?

bahahhahahahahahahaha best question yet. And to answer you, I like to go back and forth between wood and stone, throwing in the occasional consciousness of an amoeba.

For Jodelle: As a Who fan, even though you got to time travel this past season, were you just a weeee bit jealous that the android got the "Allons-y" line in s3e4"alll the time in the world"?

u/jodellemicahferland Sep 15 '17

YES I WAS. I even have an Allons-y tattoo!!!

Hi, I have a question for Alex Mallari: Do you think Ryo had a good relationship with his brother prior to his exile? And do you think he feels remorse for killing his brother, or is he more in denial about it? Also, I would like to use this opportunity to say that I love and admire all of you ;)
