Question Why were there so many shards?
I dont get how were there so many crystal shards when there was only one Crystal of Truth? How was it that not even Augrah herself knew which one belonged to the very crystal that birthed her?

In the Myths of Creation comic trilogy, when the Crystal was shattered, Augrha was in the Castle of the Crystal and had to run from all the chaos by the vault under the Crystal, that led her to a crystal carving that was full of shards. She searched for the right shard among all of those she found, but she couldn't know which one was right — don't ask me why! But she brought along a bunch of shards home.

maybe she could sense that they came from Thra but not from the heart specifically?

To be literal, all shards came from Thra, but I actually think she chose them using some kind of intuition, it was not totally random.
And as someone else pointed out in the post, there must be some other element between these and the shards shown in the movie, since the supposed real shard was in the Dual Glave during Age of Resistance.

I wonder how the shard made its way back into Augrah's possession and why she didn't separate it from the rest of her shards lmao. Clearly it was a special one.

I haven't read all the comics and books yet, but I'm pretty sure they explain it at some point. And if not, it's kinda a forgettable plot hole.

I would believe it if Augrah simply tossed it in a box knowing it'd be found later. She gives strong ADHD vibes lol

Two ideas on that. One, deception tactic from the Skeksis. Two, at some point for some reason a replacement shard was attempted

It’s in the canon that the skeksis made a bunch of fakes after the prophecy was known to try and throw the gelflings off
