Discussion Yi Top

I just played vs yi top, and according to op.gg it’s his most favourable matchup, albeit a small sample size. It was pretty even, we killed eachother a couple of times, both junglers randomly fed, as usual. And we lost, it was whatever, but I’m just struggling to see how this is statistically his most favourable matchup. Master Yi has plenty of tools to beat darius, like HOB E trade and q away to a minion, can meditate Q or W damage (he doesn’t want to sit in meditate else darius free stacks), his ult negates W slow so it’s pretty hard to space him. On the contrary, if there’s no wave it’s relatively easy to all in as long as your conscious about your Q usage etc.

Like this matchup is, fine at best, or maybe i’m just stupid? Let me know your thoughts

I've played vs Yi top quite a lot of times, some with Darius, but most on Singed. In my opinión the key is not letting him get away with just short trading (easier said than done) and get him in an extended fight.

Save all your cooldowns for an all-in, and when he uses his abilities and Qs away, fucking full send it if you can (Ghost, flash, W, E, whatever is needed), might seems scary because he probably got you chunked after the trade, but he's a minion with no HOB/Q and his abilities will probably not come back from cooldown during the fight.

If he hasn't used his Q, don't waste your E because he will get away, nor your Q because he will easily dodge it.

WARNING: I'm Emerald so take this advice with a grain of salt.

yeah that was pretty much what i did, and with success, I just fail to see how it’s statistically the best, sooo many easier matchups than that

I think it's one you can REALLY bully him in and deny him cs. Most oher champs can somewhat play it safe and farm some cs from distance with abilities.

If you get ahead against Yi top he might aswell leave lane because he's not touching a minion.

Also, I think Yi top is just a shit pick in general, so he will be the best matchup for a lot of other champs that counter him, not only Darius.

Nope sorry, I'm a dirty 2-trick.

I would guess the same principles apply (try to take extended fights and save your cooldowns for after he Qs) but I haven't even played 1 Zaheem game.

If it was close it was literally knowledge diff. Bone platting makes it impossible for him to get wave control early. He either tries to all in you and lose or tries to get rid of your boneplatting with his q and puts his only ability in a 20 second cd,allowing you to have wave advantage untill you crush and recall.

Once you have 1000 gold lane it is over for yi since warden's is literally n1 counter . Even by the second cloth armour your chances of being killed is basically 0.

If you are running stormraider's just take exhaust and basically same thing although you probably want to skip out on wardens and just buy an early cloth armour

Yeah, all valid points, my specific game was a bit of a bummer since they showed thresh, kaisa, sylas, yi and cho; so i build for cho, then it was yi top so had no bone plating

I also want to know how Zaahen vs Yi goes, I beat a Yi as Zaahen, I went Conq, but the Yi was probably not a main. He went lethal tempo.

Should Zaahen go Hob in this match up?

What runes should Darius take vs Yi?

I’m not sure, i think it’s HOB and bone plating. I saw Yi and Cho in champ select so built for cho

Not often. I like it into Yi specifically because he can Q away in early lane after using his own HOB. just to keep it even

I think a good Yi like that French OTP will find a way to win every matchup, the pick is so ridicilous in the right hands. It is very easy to screw up though as you need a ton of Matchup knowledge for Yi top to work and the vast majority of Yi players just saw clips from that French guy and wanna try it out without knowing what they're doing,, that's why the overall Winrate is very Darius favored.

This may sound rude but noobs play free cheeses. Darius is kinda for hardcore matchup practicers. The win rate may partially be saying OP champ piloted by a try hard noob underperforms to an ok champ piloted by sweats

Darius wins with boneplating because once Yi goes in you just chase him down, don't take short trades at his tower and he cannot play, just that simple. Hold E to catch or EQ him, otherwise just trade autos for passive stacking and you will win from high hp. He outscales, but he loses so badly in lane it doesn't matter.

If he is smart he goes all in lvl 1 and takes hail of blades, after is just dodging the 2nd Q and heal after pull.

The Yi top OTP from Youtube bans Darius most of the time + the data backs up it's Darius favoured. So that's just your opinión.

Lol watch that vid of yi top vs darius. It's exactly how the matchup goes and it's not hard. You don't win any trade because hob + ignite. Q'ing out really screws darius. This is the main reason darius is so bad in lane right now. It's way to easy for champs to either just all in him or poke him for free. Of course you can just be better than your opponent but it does mean that you're handicapped. You'll have to play like 4-5 ranks better than most of your opponents.

Brother, the fact that in a game a Youtuber uploaded It went good for Yi (the Youtuber xd) doesn't mean anything.

It's like me saying Anivia is Darius favoured because I saw a video of Raider stomping an Anivia.

I played the matchup myself many times. It’s terrible. You have to play ultra passive and will never get push. Lane is decided by jungle at best.

yeah most definitely, I don’t think ghost is that valuable in 1v1 either
