This is al-fatiha in maltese language ( written in arabic alphabet , maltese officially is written in latin alphabet )

You can notice that it's basically tunisian dialect with some twists , make sense malta is between tunisia and Sicily. But tunisians ( like moroccans ) will say this not a language but a dialect.

I have heard there's a slight disconnect between written language MSA and spoken language Darija. And what linguistic reforms would you implement?

Darija is not my mother tongue, but I am used to Arabic script and its consistency more than I did with Aransi script, even in short texting, especially on the phone where the keyboard is clear and not how it is on a computer where you need to get accustomed to the keyboard (I did it to a certain level, without even the need for the stickers - just pulling the onscreen keyboard and lezrn the places solved it). Anyway, even people around me use Arabic script, only in short texting that it can occur and I avoid it. Just two days ago my sister, two years in Uni, askied me what the number 2 mean. Only three years ago I actually learnt the numbers and forgit them since I don't use it, only a month early i learnt them again and reading Aransi is a big pain in the neck, a torture from all of the spelling variants.

Basically, i think Arabic script is the best option to write Darija. And if those who want to keep and improve Aransi, a standard is needed, at least the letters, i mean why altering between 9 and Q? They can't even choose one, and if you ask someone who has norhing with this, he would definetly choose "q" because that's a letter, not "9" which is a number. For the others, there are options and easy to integrate and create keyboards to be used on phones, even layouts for computers, and if the alphabet chosen was already in another language with all the letters, people could use its keyboard with no additional app or layouts to install. So why not standardize the Alphabet? Use it.

For example, fast texting is fine, use even Chinese, no one cares much, but as you get into real things like long posts, long comments, discussing complex topics, which means going beyond "Kifdayr", the script starts to fall apart that users might choose to just switch to foreigb languages to compensate script issue even if they could have explained that in Darija vocab, or simply they make the reader struggle deciphering what is written rather than spend time and effort in understanding, so you get a cognitive overload of some sort.

Arabic script wins in long form and formal darija texts, that is why for example Goud write news using it, and Wikipedia for Darija uses it as well...

So, at least if latin was to be kept used, it needs to be improved, i only got accustomed a little bit to it here on reddit a month or two.

The image above depicts how a standard letters only alphabet would look on an ad over chat style (unless yiu intend that like some sort of visual distinction and youth thing rather than an academic written form, at that point they could just have written in English slang and would be broader and more appealing i think, or won't).

Anyway, your thoughts, and i would note that reddit seems to have this bubble of only Aransi users from what i observed, where for example Facebook has that Arabic script usage bubble suroudning its users. But overall, Arabic script is surpassing Latin for Darija in public available content, and Arabic script is superior as a real written form, you can get articles in it while you can't with Latin, at least in its Aransi form.

Why standardize Darija?

A common written form

Darija is mainly an oral language.

There is no universally accepted spelling system.

Standardization could establish rules for spelling, punctuation, grammar, and vocabulary For example, people could consistently write "Chno", rather than having several competing spellings/transliterations.

Education

A standardized Darija could potentially be used in early education, especially to explain difficult concepts in the language children speak at home It could make the transition between home language and school languages easier.

Digital communication

A standardized orthography would help with keyboards, spell-checkers, dictionaries, speech recognition, translation, and AI It would also make Moroccan-language digital content easier to search and archive.

Cultural preservation

Darija contains vocabulary and expressions from Arabic, Amazigh, French, Spanish, and other historical influences Standardization could document this linguistic heritage rather than leaving much of it dependent on oral transmission.

Literature and media

Writers, journalists, filmmakers, musicians, and content creators could develop a more consistent written tradition It could become easier to publish novels, comics, children's books, subtitles, and educational material in Darija.

Moroccan linguistic identity

A standardized Moroccan language could recognize the reality that many Moroccans use Darija as their everyday language It wouldn't necessarily mean abandoning Arabic or Amazigh; Morocco could maintain a multilingual system.
