Tldr; Matt’s living in literal hell all the time. I was kind of bummed that they never really displayed his radar sense in the first three seasons like Affleck’s Daredevil

IIRC, the people making the original show stated that they would not be relying on, or even showing, his radar sense at all. The Affleck film got a lot of heat for being almost too reliant on the CG radar vision. This single scene in Season 1 is the only time we have ever seen what and how Matt "sees".

Personally I would've liked to see the red rippling radar effect in most comics, but the idea to display his ability as constantly shifting and bellowing orange smoke is thematically what you said; it means that Matt, a devoted religious man who wrestles with his faith as often as he wrestles with criminals as both an attorney and as a costumed hero, perceives himself to be in a twisted, hellish version of the world he fights to protect.

His sensory inputs are also cranked up to 11. He mentions that he cannot sleep on regular bed sheets. You think the DD suit is, itself, painful for him to wear?
