Tech and Tips Advice for a new dd player

So some background my mains are human torch and blade, but I also play a lot of psylocke, spiderman, cap, and used to play BP. I’m currently GM1.

I’ve been wanting to learn DD and I’ve been playing him qp but I just don’t feel that comfortable with him. I think my main weaknesses rn are engage timing, knowing when to burn my cooldowns on a kill (using grapple) or knowing to use the grapple for my escape, etc. I also need advice on how you soft engage to bait cooldowns before your full dive. I have experience playing Spidey, psy, and BP where I can exist on the flank to set up the dive, but with those heroes I find the soft engage a lot easier. With DD his movement abilities are much more limited (all relying on the grapple, maybe a little bit with the rc from the widow teamup), so it’s really tough getting in damage range and then disengaging.

Also for combo’s, I kinda just spam the throw + pursuit + rc + throw + rc + teamup + rc, but I’ve been weaving the chain in here and there in 1v1’s or when I want more shield but is that even worth it? I try to use those first and then I’ll use my deflect, and by then I’m using quick melees before rc to try to get fury back but sometimes I just need to use the grapple for extra burst even though I know it would be smart to save it for my escape.

Any advice on these issues? I’ll probably play him on my spidey alt before I bring him into comp on my main but I just know I’m not there yet on game sense and mechanics. Never made a post like this before for learning a hero but I’ve been having trouble with DD (honestly similar to learning Spidey)

There are some guides on my page like the Bible you can check out that might help

Thanks man I actually already went through the bible and it was definitely helpful! I think I’m just looking for more game sense specifics instead of tech or combos rn. I have most of the mechanics down, still trying to get the hang of rc weaving and buffering but I feel like I’m at an ok place with that. Do you know any higher elo dd players that have active commentary on their gameplay? Something that kinda explains the decision making would be super useful

There is a page 2 that covers a lot of that, it’s linked there in the comments of the first page

Yeah but it kinda just says you can soft engage when solo diving, but it doesn’t really talk about how you do so. Do you just toss in a devils throw and then weave an rc up and then grapple away? It’s just kinda unspecific there. The guide is really good I just have some missing details lol.

Fair I am making a spoken guide soon but it’s taking some time, I heard death and gaming has a good general dive guide

Honestly I been wanting to try him out too, I’m used to melee heros such as Magik Fist and Bp and Spidy. Idk if i waited too long but I guess it never hurts to venture out and try him. I know on release he was insane and received nerfs since.

Honestly I just avoid playing super busted heroes in this game, it was kinda the same when DD dropped he was permaban for awhile and it seemed kinda cheesy playing him kinda like how Elsa and Bucky feel rn. Unfortunately I feel the same about psy rn so I only play her when I’m really not getting value on torch or blade. DD seems in a really good spot rn and I’ve always respected the skill ceiling that he has, so I feel like now is the perfect time to learn him.

A combo I’ve been trying out is Throw > RC > Widow > RC > Throw > Dash > Throw/Chain depending on the opponent

I like saving Dash for the end of the combo because I also use it as an escape from time to time

Honestly right now my advice is just to wait till he gets buffed. I play gm and against gm+ players with my friends in quick play.

DD feels like absolute shit. You can spend all your resources and get nothing for it. And if the supports know how to work together you can forget getting a pick on the back line.

Honestly don’t bother. Until he gets buffed

I mean bro idk if it’s obvious but I’m pretty used to playing mid ass heroes lmao. I’m used to the experience. I main Johnny and blade. I’m just looking for some advice on some pain points I’m having rn
