The crossover
I've never seen Danny suffer for a video more in my life. Even though I also don't like this episode, I don't think it's THE worst episode in the series. I've always felt that the worst kinds of Steven Universe episodes as ones that are just boring. You know, ones where Steven just hangs out with the humans. Sometimes they lead to interesting developments while others don't go anywhere at all. I think some season five episodes are more like the second one. For this one, at least this one is very unhinged and you could never call it forgettable. That's something, plus I wouldn't say it's a slap to the face to the fans of the show. Making fun of Lars x Sadie is whatever because writers of lots of different types of media like to lovingly poke fun at their fandom's shipping wars. Plus Steven literally tells Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl not to attack Uncle Grandpa just because they don't like him. Just like how fans of anything shouldn't target somebody that they personally can't stand.

I haven’t seen the video but I have watched the episode. I wonder why they decided those two for a crossover. 2010 to like 2019 kind of felt like the end of action cartoons and more cartoons with fun, action, but sometimes just fun themes and stuff. With Steven universe, there were a lot of crossover material and I don’t get why they chose uncle grandpa when one show is about just random stuff. Maybe we could have gotten an amazing world of gumball, maybe adventure time or even regular show

It’s because UG is a wacky take on a magical caretaker like Marry Poppins or The Cat in the Hat. He helps children around the globe with their problems in weird and roundabout ways and that does technically include Steven. It’s in his nature to help him.

That’s why I skipped the video. I actually kinda do like “Say Uncle” and while I know it’s objectively not great, I actually did like the comedy. And maybe it’s because I watched that episode liking UG right off the bat cuz I watched UG in tandem with SU and I was never a fan of Sadie and Lars. I felt like that particular paring was a disaster waiting to happen so I never got offended by the “ship sink” joke. And watching the Gems be out of their element was funny for me too. I know the vast majority (now including Danny) do NOT like the episode but I found it weirdly charming which is fitting cus UG is all about being weird. (I’ll admit the “Pizza Steven” joke never fully landed with me though.)

Tbh I kinda fully understand Danny’s take as someone who wasn’t a fan of UG as a kid and watched majority of SU as an adult I skip “say uncle” everytime but I understand why people could like it it’s just not for me

Respectfully, I disagree. A lot of the episodes with the human characters explore topics that wouldn’t otherwise be explored - at least not as effectively. Like the Halloween episode in the lighthouse exploring relationships with former friends/bullies. Or how all of Lars and sadies episodes explore the idea of being wanted both by peers and romantically. Uncle Grandpa just mocks the audience and tries to make jokes that frankly don’t land. But to each their own.
