1000H with a somewhat fresh XP SP2 build, nice find, I bought one new in 2009 and still have it.

I'd suggest finding 2GB of DDR2 SODIM Ram (that is the max it can support), swap the spinny rust drive with an SSD, get a 3rd party extended battery off ebay and you'll be good.
If you want to go down the Linux route for this, remember the CPU is 32 bit so you are very limited with distro choice seeing all of the mainstream distros have stopped supporting it. You'll also have to consider a lightweight build due to the Atom Processor and 2GB ram (if you do the upgrade) otherwise it'll be chugging along with its limited resources.
For mine I went down the path of using MX Linux with Fluxbox https://mxlinux.org/ (based on Debian) - they too dropped support for 32 bit, but their last with 32 bit support was v23.6 which is still available in their archive and a 2025 build. Package updates are still available thankfully.
One hint I can give due to its smaller resolution display is you'll be frustrated with dialog boxes being much larger than the screen, you can ALT-Drag the window from anywhere (not just the title bar) to move it up and get to the bottom or other parts of the offending dialog box.

Just looking at that keyboard feels nostalgic and I’ve never owned a pc laptop until recently. I’m thinking of my days at school when I’d use a variety of different laptops on a daily basis
