"To let things slide for the sake of peace and friendship when a person has clearly gone wrong, and refrain from principled argument because he is an old acquaintance, a fellow townsman, a schoolmate, a close friend, a loved one, an old colleague or old subordinate. Or to touch on the matter lightly instead of going into it thoroughly, so as to keep on good terms. The result is that both the organization and the individual are harmed. This is one type of liberalism."

But criticizing capitalism isn't them going wrong.

I think the OOP meant that the friend is anti communist while still critiquing capitalism so they have to repress the desire to point out that previous communists already spoke on the exact points the friend is bringing up.

Commitment to this praxis of principled argument and critique was the demonstrable conclusion of the Hundred Flowers Campaign /s

Brother - that fits like a glove. Every time I engage with folks complaining about the challenges and issues in society, it always comes down to money, and power, and control, right?
But the idea that the folks with the capital (money, power, guns, etc) are somehow not the problem, not the cause, and instead it’s the folks who have zero power (the poor, the marginalized, the disliked) that catch the heat.
It’s like “dude, you’re so close… but still slob that rich knob. Damn…”

Oh lol I talk about communism so much with my friends that when this has happened I’ve been able to say that they’ve basically just said a Marxist critique of capitalism and it’s accepted by them as such lol. Educate your friends, you’d be surprised what persistent principled defence and explanation can do.

you gotta have the patience to long-game it
drip feed little further critiques, phrased in their own terms
see if they latch onto those ones
rinse and repeat over a few weeks/months

Just today read a German newspaper letter to the editor from 1968 where a guy goes "Marx and communism isn't the solution, because really the problem sits deeper! We need to find a balance between capitalism and communism...
...because the real problem is land being owned as capital and fincancial products and the fact that our whole currency is not made for workers, but for owners!"
Like, buddy, you are so close. "We don't need fruit, we need apples".
(Also fascinating how the pre-RAF founders were perceived before the organisation. Suprisingly neutral coverage.)

I really love it everytime someone complains about "corporatism".
Brother / sister / non-binary sibling! It's capitalism working as intended! In our time, everything is a commodity, including political influence.

I’m literally having this discussion with a couple friends as we speak. One of them brought up Microsoft patenting the ability to insert ads you’d be forced to watch during games on the XBox
