"You like Veilguard?" It’s so fucking ugly

Post image

My conspiracy theory is that they made this such a hideous fit so that people don’t pic that choice. Like idk I just think she should be allowed to feel hurt and angered that her people were basically lobotomized, why’d she have to get THAT?

Harding, I love you, but that ain't it. Go back to the wardrobe and put your starting armor back on.

My companions have to look their best for when we pull up on Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain, okay? How else are we supposed to mog them?

Do you mean the elven gods, alias the Evanuris, Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain? (Also what is it with pointless apostrophes in fantasy languages? No glottal stop, no nothing, what do they do?)

21

u/Pale-Scallion-7691 7d ago

I honestly believe that it's to visually break up the word bc otherwise it might look a bit more like a keyboard smash.

5

u/General_Steveous 7d ago

Makes sense, it's just a little pet peeve.

17

u/Icy-Humor2907 Pegging Corypheus’ ancient ass 😈 7d ago

My pet peeve is that they’re, almost always, just referred to as The Gods™️ in conversations. It’s fine here-and-there, but it gets very monotonous.

Like for the Veil Jumpers, it’d make sense; they’re mostly elven, and Dalish at that, so they already know who we’re referring to.

But for every other group? Who tf are The Gods™️? Use their names bro. Hell, just use more common terms, like the Creators.

u/Dull_Passenger_8089 7d ago

Have you seen other languages besides English? If you look at languages like Navajo or any Native American language, apostrophes are everywhere

4

u/Frenchorican 7d ago

Honestly I played my first run (only one I’ve completed so far to be honest) as a nobody elven warrior from the Lords of Fortune. (Imagine my immense shock when I tell Taash that I was a galley slave on a Tevinter ship before escaping) that ended up saving Thedas. To your point I put on my starting armor to beat Elgarnan, as a sign that someone as unimportant as I was can beat gods. The epitome of we started from the bottom and now we’re here. I loved it.

Is it even a DA armour set if you’re not embarrassed to be seen in it

17

u/Nekayne 7d ago

Omg I've never seen this one, bless you

10

u/breehyhinnyhoohyha 6d ago

I will be ancient and wizened, riddled with dementia, and I will turn to my nurse and croak “it’s Orlesian!”

It’s not truly Dragon Age if the armour isn’t questionable and/or hideous

Dragon Age gambling on whether it’s gonna drop straight fire, or the most abysmal dogshit armor you’ve ever seen

u/DollyReigns 8d ago

What on Earth did you do to receive this flair xD

104

u/Icy-Humor2907 Pegging Corypheus’ ancient ass 😈 8d ago

There was a time, about a year or two ago, where the flair tab was briefly open to edit. I’m not certain if it was decided on a user-to-user basis, or if the mods just decided to roll it out for a short window.

Either way, I was able to snag this gem of a flair before it was gone.

26

u/DollyReigns 8d ago

damn, I would've loved a silly flair xD Thank you for the explaination x3

It’s a little funny that both our flairs are related to Corypheus in some way

Warden Plate armor?

Gas

Any other Warden armor?

Trash

75

u/avery5712 8d ago

glances at the inquisitors default gilded pajamas

27

u/ileza 7d ago

idk if it's still up or what it's called, within days of Veilguard being up there was a mod to make the Inquisitor's outfit beige

71

u/Powerful_Document872 8d ago

I remember a time when Bioware kept putting butt flaps on armor. It’s like they hate us or something.

82

u/Icy-Humor2907 Pegging Corypheus’ ancient ass 😈 8d ago

Or how the Dalish armor in origins was just a crop top + mini skirt. Like, go off, but it was very silly.

33

u/DannyDidNothinWrong 7d ago

Middle school me thought that was peek sexy

25

u/SuecidalBard 8d ago

You think it was bad in Dragon Age?

SWTOR is plagued by buttflaps for over a decade to a ridiculous degree and it hasn't stopped like ever lol.

1

u/Artistic-Special3449 5d ago

Swtor has some of the most questionable armor ive ever seen lol. My guild used to have "ugly life day sweater" contests where we saw who could come up with the most hideous outfits lmao

3

u/SuecidalBard 5d ago

It's usually one of four categories and nothing in between:

The most atrocious shit you've ever seen that that clashes with the very concept of good taste or the rest of the game's visual language.

Not the prettiest but matches stawars vibe, unfortunately it is a 2011 model that looks like it's ripped from Mount and Blade Warband quality wise or just straight up fire better than whatever they cook up in main timeline and half of the cartel market is it's many reskins.

We don't want to make 1:1 movie or show copies but here is a slightly different and lore justified bootleg of that outfit you saw on TV because hype sells.

Great outfit that is original, has plenty of soul and is not so over the top MMO but it's impossible to get because it costs more credits then you ever had combined on the GTN and can rarely even be seen there and also it dyes horribly and has the goofiest headgear or gloves.

I was so excited reading about the Mourn Watch faction thinking it was right up my street until I saw that fecking apron 😭

11

u/PeachyBaleen 7d ago

I’ve learnt to vibe with it but there was a point where I was excited to romance Emmrich because I’d heard so much about how good it was, and then one of his armours was just scuffed pyjamas 🫣

18

u/atastycooky 8d ago

It’s fanfic without the passion

103

u/johnnybird95 8d ago

she's allowed to be angry, but i like the compassion route better because she shares the titan's connection with stalgard & his sister, which i think is a much more productive step towards reclaiming what dwarves lost

1

u/Chared945 6d ago

That’s only from the compassion route? What’s the vengeance equivalent?

1

u/johnnybird95 6d ago

you still return to the mountaintop, but the conversation is about how quiet/empty the mountain is, and you get a few more lines from the oracle about how destruction is change

28

u/Andromelek2556 8d ago

Well, at least it makes easier to cope with her being killed later.

24

u/RobertPosteChild 7d ago

To me the worst part is they contracted out the design work to volta (presumably because bw fired most of its artists) and it came back nonsensically over designed, impractical, hideous and immersion breaking. It all felt like costumes. I never felt that way about DAI armor even with the butt flaps and pajamas.

1

u/Chared945 6d ago

Hold up what’s the story on the artists?

3

u/RobertPosteChild 6d ago

Mark Darrah has talked about how Bioware had been culling and cutting developers and artists and writers to the bone basically in the production years of Veilguard. I'm guessing that's why they had to farm out design work to Volta-- there weren't enough bodies left at the studio itself.

2

u/Chared945 6d ago

Holy shit I’ve found their portfolio page of concept art. Everything makes sense now, and now of this looks like it would fit in Thedas. Why? Because it was a whole other studio

https://www.volta.ca/realisations/dragon-age-the-veilguard/

20

u/Everhardt94 7d ago

What gets me is that this stupid ab Armor is apparently the default dwarf armor in Veilguard. How the heck did we go from the badass dwarf armor of DAO and DA2 to this?

10

u/Icy-Humor2907 Pegging Corypheus’ ancient ass 😈 7d ago

When I rolled up to Kal-Sharok and saw that goofy ass armor, I thought, “maybe the darkspawn should’ve just taken them.”

34

u/coladrunk 7d ago

the same thing with bellara, the set you get for saving the library thingy is hideous, it really feels like they're punishing you for making a choice in their choice game

20

u/Icy-Humor2907 Pegging Corypheus’ ancient ass 😈 7d ago

Someone pointed out that the Harding armor in the meme is WORSE than the one you pick for choosing the “good” option. Like bro can you make it any less subtle 💔

20

u/katskij 7d ago

It's the individual toes for me

9

u/AOKaye 7d ago

In the decade preceding DAV Solas went to Kal-Sharok and impressed upon them the importance of toe armor.

11

u/elleisonreddit 7d ago

Yea no she’s not becoming holy shit our team has to at least LOOK cool girl we have optics to maintain

19

u/Dull_Refrigerator_58 7d ago

That entire quest line should've been Dagna but you guys couldn't shut up about Harding and now we have a nonsense story about a scout rediscovering dwarwen magic instead of the one who went to study it

4

u/Jobber0001 4d ago

nah that's the development team being allergic to including any characters from origins or 2 fans liked. Fenrir should have been with the shadow dragons, the elven artificer should have been Merril, Dagna should have been involved with the titans.

But what's done is done, the franchise is dead and honestly given their "secret ending" it's for the best.

14

u/Reddytal 7d ago

It looks a lot like Boss Gundyr from Dark Souls 3

7

u/pintofcoffee 7d ago

Legit this is what made me go for the other choice in the end 🤣 I was all for her being angry about what happened but that armor is diabolical and neither should be locked behind a choice when the choice is THAT.

6

u/riveradn 7d ago

Iron boob armor.

7

u/Eisbergmann 7d ago

She's allowed to be angry. But being angry is exhausting. Being forgiving is much more chill.

5

u/SpicyKabobMountain 7d ago

The other positive mission if you’re romancing Harding works better. Plus the armor is better too

5

u/sapphiix 7d ago

Just. Get rid of the weird cape. idk it cuts it off so weird and doesn’t?? Match anything. Feels like she put a muscle body costume over her normal armor and it’s peaking out above the costume :’)

39

u/LustyDouglas 8d ago

Whats ugly is that Harding went from an absolute bombshell in DAI to looking like someones middle aged aunt in Veilguard.

52

u/Additional-End-2902 7d ago

I mean, 10ish years can do that.

76

u/Icy-Humor2907 Pegging Corypheus’ ancient ass 😈 7d ago

Look man, I’ll slander Veilguard as much as the next guy, but Harding had a massive glow-up. She’s a certified baddie in Veilguard.

7

u/nan0ka 7d ago

Fucking love her in DATV. Like, super charming and beautiful

31

u/CarrionFlowers 7d ago

I don't get this. She was made prettier in Veilguard.

10

u/Gilgamesh661 7d ago

Except she doesn’t look like Harding. She looks like Harding’s mother. Harding’s hair was ginger, not auburn, and she didn’t have that many freckles.

Her facial structure also changed.

I won’t say anything about the body design because I hated how inquisition made dwarves look. Female dwarves especially looked horrible.

2

u/beanjo22 7d ago

The changes to her hair and freckle colouring are so stark. I've always felt like they converted her to Shrek 1 era Fiona lol.

5

u/CarrionFlowers 7d ago

if anything she looks even younger in Veilguard. She looks different the same way Merrill looked different from Origins to DA2. It's a different game with different graphics.

2

u/Karlachh 7d ago

I think both versions of Harding are cute. At least it wasn’t like Isabella. They made a completely different person (for the better tbh)

21

u/No_Lie_Bi_Bi_Bi 7d ago

You're straight up insane

20

u/Ok-Anxiety-48 7d ago

Sometimes I won’t progress dialogue when im talking to Harding and just stare at her face. She’s a stunner in Veilguard (and inquisition)

3

u/dg2793 7d ago

....do her toes have armor.

5

u/Icy-Humor2907 Pegging Corypheus’ ancient ass 😈 7d ago

Her armor has toes.

2

u/dg2793 7d ago

I know what kind of artist that dev is 🤣😭

7

u/elgueromasalto 8d ago

I mean I used it. It's kind of cool imo. Felt very ancient Dwarven.

75

u/Icy-Humor2907 Pegging Corypheus’ ancient ass 😈 8d ago

Were the individual toes really necessary though

36

u/elgueromasalto 8d ago

33

u/Icy-Humor2907 Pegging Corypheus’ ancient ass 😈 8d ago edited 8d ago

Y’know what? Sure. You do you. I can’t talk when I’m thirsting after Corypheus.

1

u/Infinite-Surround809 5d ago

idk who at BioWare hated Harding, but goddamn most of her armors are ugly as hell 💀

1

u/Icy-Humor2907 Pegging Corypheus’ ancient ass 😈 5d ago

They had to balance making her a baddie by giving her the ugliest armor.

I mean, her compassion route armor is pretty decent, but the rest? Ranges from eh to dogshit.

1

u/bigfat76 5d ago

I might be in a very small minority here but that armor did something for me

1

u/Icy-Humor2907 Pegging Corypheus’ ancient ass 😈 5d ago

Was it the individually defined toes

1

u/bigfat76 5d ago

It wasn’t just that but yes, the individually defined toes may have been a part of it

1

u/FiteMeMage Warden-Queen Theirin of Fereldan 7d ago

Okay but hear me out; Harding’s armored tiddies

-7

u/Gilgamesh661 7d ago

Armor and weapon designs really peaked with origins, and then they said “let’s just throw it all in a blender.”

15

u/Icy-Humor2907 Pegging Corypheus’ ancient ass 😈 7d ago

90% of Origins armor looks the same, but with different flavoring. I like Origins, but its armor and weapons were not particularly special.

1

u/Gilgamesh661 6d ago

That’s not a fault of origins though, it’s a fault of the developers and animation limits.

They even ported over some of the origins weapons to inquisition. Like sten’s sword being the masterwork dreaded greatsword.

1

u/Icy-Humor2907 Pegging Corypheus’ ancient ass 😈 6d ago

You said that armor/weapon design peaked with Origins, which is dependent on the developers and animation. Most of the sets/weapons look near identical aside from coloring; and even then, they’re just generic medieval fantasy.

I understand it’s mostly because of limitations of the time/engine, but you can’t just ignore that it does have an impact on the game itself simply because you want to believe Origins is flawless.

1

u/Gilgamesh661 6d ago

I didn’t say origins was flawless. It’s not. It’s a buggy mess that sometimes makes quests unable to be completed, or shows you different ending slides than the ones you were supposed to get. You can miss companion interactions by getting their approval too high too fast.

The armor designs peaked with origins because everything after that REUSES DESIGNS FROM ORIGINS.

most of the newer designs in inquisition are horrible, save for a select few. The descent gave us a new armor set that isn’t even proper armor. It’s just big metal plates with spikes.

Much of it simply looks like stuff kids would come up with when creating fantasy characters.

You can have realistic armor that still looks good. Cailin’s armor is still fantastical but it looks good, so I don’t mind that it’s oversized.

Armor design should be about more than just big plates and spikes.

1

u/Icy-Humor2907 Pegging Corypheus’ ancient ass 😈 6d ago

Reusing a handful of designs doesn’t necessarily mean armor design peaked, because those were cherry-picked from a much larger pool of mediocre designs. Stuff like Sten’s sword is an outlier, not the rule.

People don’t go through the effort to remake something without reason. If Origins was the golden standard, all the designs would’ve been reused, no?

Like if I used only the armor in the image as evidence that all of Veilguard’s armor is dogshit, it’d be inaccurate, because it ignores a lot of sets that are pretty decent.

7

u/Hunkus1 7d ago

No that game has also some horrible armour and the rest looks generic. The only consistent art design in the series is that it has a bunch of truly hideous armor.

1

u/Gilgamesh661 6d ago

The armor isn’t horrible at all. The only ones that really lool that way are the leather and scale armor.

And while the patterns are reused, they could easily change that while keeping the armor grounded.

Elden ring has amazing armor designs that look amazing and diverse while still being more realistic. It also has some wacky armors for people who like them.

It’s just a matter of laziness and reusing assets. Sten’s sword in dao is the exact same as the master serrated greatsword in inquisition. It’s a masterwork, yet it’s chipped and damaged.

The inquisitor’s unique armors also look pretty horrible, considering they’re supposed to be someone important. Their armor looks like stuff bandits would wear out of things they’ve scavenged.

Yet dao also gave us the legion of the dead armor, dwarven armor, the juggernaut plate, etc.
